AMALFI COAST: POMPEII & PIZZA - FAMILY HOLIDAY

We wanted to see this area of Italy with our two teenage boys and we had a fantastic guide, great family run hotel and superb food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Eduardo makes this trip so special because he knows the area so well, our trip to Capri was amazing and the walk of the God's was stunning.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eduardo made sure we saw the best of everything on the trip and really looked after us very well. We also had an extra week in Italy, and during that time he made suggestions of where to go, where to eat and sorted out bus transfers for us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you have time whilst waiting for the transfer back on the bus from one of the boat trips, pop into Amalfi town and have a glass of prosecco and watch the sun go down on the Cathedral.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

This was such a perfect holiday.  I saw everything I wanted to see in Jordan and more.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra had to be the highlight, but looking out from Mount Nebo and swimming in the Dead Sea were amazing too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khaled was simply fantastic.  Thoughtful, intelligent and passionate about introducing us to his country.  He struck an excellent balance between taking us round as a group and giving us time to explore separately.

BULGARIAN NATIONAL PARKS

Great views, warm people, some effort required

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the peaks and the views from them, taking in some of the previous days walks. The ability to relax at the end of the day, in calm surroundings.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vladi was a great leader, who understood the group very well, picking up on the banter and adding to it. Helpful, patient, always on hand; we were well guided and looked after by him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Thought the climbs were harder than expected, but you got used to them by the end (challenging I guess). Not an issue if you are a mountain goat, or adjust well. Depending on the time of year that you travel, you might find it quite hot, well into the high 30's or even 40's.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

An amazing holiday in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. The islands were beautiful and the towns of Hvar and Korcula inspirational. It was great to have all of the travel arrangements organised, especially the ferries, and excellent restaurants recommended and booked. It was also fantastic to have the back up vehicle on hand for the transfers, snacks and the ‘just in case’ moments. The bikes were easy to ride and in good condition.

Most Inspirational Moment

I was very nervous prior to the holiday about being able to cope with all the uphill rides. I had a real buzz from completing all the rides and loved the challenges they set. Visiting the islands was superb and the scenery made you forget the undulating routes. Having risen to the challenge of the uphills the downhills were exhilarating with truly amazing views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Krsto was excellent. He was supportive to those at the back of the 'peloton'. He was knowledgeable about the places we visited and had a great sense of humour. He made arrangements for us to visit some amazing restaurants. A truly inspirational leader!

Advice for Potential Travellers

I took my own saddle as well as others who also took their own peddles - a good move! Although I had been out cycling prior to the trip the uphills were certainly longer than I had anticipated. To get the most from the trip it would be prudent to do some uphill training prior to the trip. Having said that, the ascents are not particularly steep, just long and the superb scenery and lovely descents make up for all the undulations!

WALKING IN NORTH CYPRUS

North Cyprus was an interesting place to visit, so much history and an on-going political situation.

Most Inspirational Moment

The historical sites built on mountain tops. St Hilarion Castle, Buffavento castle.  The views form the castles and along the mountain walks were amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Roz was a fantastic guide and good company. She had so much knowledge of the area and the history. She knew all of the routes very well and was able to measure the pace of the group very well. Gave great recommendations for places to eat.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks were probably not in the moderate range and I found them quiet easy but, the daily temperatures of 38 degrees made the walking much more difficult but not unbearable. There was a go0od balance between walking and time off and plenty of time to explore the various sites during the walks.

WALKING IN NORTH CYPRUS

Despite the intense heat, this was a very worthwhile walking holiday with excellent cultural highlights.

Most Inspirational Moment

 The Armenian Monastery and Buffavento.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ros was very friendly and knowledgeable.  She ensured that there was always plenty of back up for the group, and planned and led the walks bearing in mind the unseasonably high temperatures.  This meant that all of us could take part in at least one, if not more stages of each day, without concern that any day would prove too challenging. She recommended good restaurants for the non group nights. She was clearly well liked and respected by the locals which heightened our holiday experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Listen to the advice about how much you need to drink.  A 'camel' in your rucksack is a very worthwhile investment, since you can drink at any time and the rucksack keeps the sun off your back.  I found that apart from the sea walk, walking boots were worthwhile every day.

WALKING IN SARDINIA

Sardinia has great beaches and mountains.Wonderful people and food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming in the sea after a gruelling walk.A beautiful blue green sea, transparent water and gentle warm sea breezes.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eric was very kind and tried hard to meet the individual needs of all the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The rock is hard ,sharp limestone .Even the experienced hikers found the walks demanding.Would suggest Exodus reconsider reclassification to Moderate.Make sure walking boots are tried and tested with some heavy duty plasters. The walks are mainly linear and flora and range of wild life limited. The hotel was excellent -providing wonderful food and a relaxed family atmosphere. If you are interested in the history of the island then read up before you go as the local guides can be difficult to understand and some have a limited knowledge of the archaeology . The locals are friendly and helpful. They will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy all aspects of Sardinian life.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - RONGAI ROUTE

An amazingly emotional trip. The whole trip was brilliantly coordinated, the support team fantastic and the sense of achievement was immense. I would and have recommend this trip, if you are thinking about it, do it.

Most Inspirational Moment

The sunrise on the ascent and the views from the summit.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Abraham organised everything brilliantly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack well, you will need less clothes than you think, but do have a change of clothes for the camp, even though you spend most of the day walking, I found changing in the evening really refreshing. Buy the best kit that you can afford, especially boots (the majority of the group had solomon boots). If you cant afford a decent jacket hire one, my son did and it was excellent. I would also recommend the hired sleeping bags, we did and weren't cold at night, some of our group brought their own and were cold. Be prepared for cold nights, once the sun drops below the horizon the temperature seriously drops it's near freezing most nights. Take the trip one step at a time, don't think about tomorrow just think about the walk till lunch, breaking it down really helped. My last bit of advise is to think positively. Your fitness will get you through each day, but mental toughness will get you to the summit.

MONT BLANC TO THE MATTERHORN

A challenging walk through fantastic scenery, with excellent support from the Exodus Team.Like the Tour du Mont Blanc this is an excellent journey through magnificant scenery in the heart of the alps, the days on Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn are however more demanding.

Most Inspirational Moment

Two stand-out; the first is the spectacular vistas of the Matterhorn when it finally comes into view on the final day's walking into Zermatt, until then the mountain remains hidden except for the odd fleeting distant glance. The second was the optional ascent of the Breithorn some of us completed on the free day in Zermatt, completing my first European 4000m peak and the stunning views right across the Alps and the Bernese Oberland, with both Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn visible.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mike (a new leader for Exodus this year) was an excellent group leader/ mountain guide, his knowledge and experience in the mountains was very impressive. Mike always gave you confidence he was in control however demanding the situation, including when we got snowed off the mountain at the Cabane Mont Fort!Jayne & John the support crew/chefs were also excellent, the tents were always up and tea ready for us when we arrived in camp, even when we arrived at Les Hauderes a day early. The food in camp was impressive, first time I've had duck whilst camping.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn is a fantastic route with amazing scenery and the Exodus trip is very well organised, so if you are looking for a fantastic journey through the Alps with all the hassles sorted this could be the trip for you.The walking is demanding so you do need a good fitness level for the trip, the days are harder than the Tour du Mont Blanc.Remember the weather can do anything in the Alps especially at the start/end of the season so be prepared for that, we had most things from 30 degress and sunshine to heavy snow over the two weeks (that much snow is not normal for the end of August though).

MONTENEGRO, BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

A very enjoyable trip in beautiful surroundings.  A good mixture of culture, walking, cities and countryside.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many; the one that has stuck with me most was hearing how the siege of Sarajevo effected our guides and their families personally.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable, warm and friendly. Anaid in particular deserves a special mention.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's a fascinating part of Europe that is well worth a visit.
