AMALFI COAST: POMPEII & PIZZA - FAMILY HOLIDAY
A wonderful holiday and some great memories. The organisation was fabulous and the knowledge and enthusiasm of our guide really added to the whole experience.

The BBQ on the Path of the Gods was fantastic, a real added bonus that you just wouldn't get if you tried to do this yourself.

Our group leader was brilliant, she even organised an extra walk on her day off so a few of us could climb the mountain next to the hotel.
ESSENTIAL PERU
The whole tour was amazing-I really don’t think we could have seen as much or experienced Peru by doing it ourselves. Our guide (Marcial) was amazing and all of the hotels were so much better than I had expected. The tour did involve early starts, but this was necessary to get the most out of the final destinations for the day by arriving at most places by mid-afternoon. Long days in the coach are also required, but they flew by with multiple stops for photos, comfort breaks and food.

Machu Pichu of course, but there were many interesting days and different landscapes to enjoy. Machu Pichu may be a cliche' as most inspirational moment - but it really was excellent. Being at 16,000 ft on altiplanas was also very special. We had a great group and it was great to meet people from all walks of life who will remain friends for years to come.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Marcial really did make the tour and we were lucky to have him. Everything was organised well and everyone was looked after. His knowledge and passion about Peru really shone through and he was able to reel off interesting facts without even thinking about it. Even on the 'free days' Marcial would offer to arrange optional trips which was great. Marcial had a great sense of humour and is a great guy to have as your guide. We had some excellent meals and nights out on the town and always felt safe in the restaurants and bars recommended to us.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Wear sun-cream, the UV rays are strong. Don't be put off by altitude - nobody had altitude sickness on our tour - the trip ascends section by section so you get used to it, but there were moments of light headedness on occasions, just drink fluids and don't over do it for the first 3 days or so. Don't worry about long trips on buses - they were actually luxury coaches most of the time on the trip and not rickerty old buses i had imagined before going! The home stay on the island is nothing to be afraid of - the families had converted barns into 3/4 units of double/twin rooms which were basic b&b style - so the group split up into 3 different locations, but you shared a room with your travelling partner and it was nothing like the mud huts and bunk bed group sharing that i had originally envisaged! Try to take as much small note Peruvian Soles as you can - they don't like 100 sole notes, but they WILL find change to score a sale! As a tip $150 each is sufficient to pay tips and a few of the optional tours but take Soles otherwise. Probably budget £400-£500 each to cover food, drink, souvenirs and optional tours.
WALKING THE AMALFI COAST
This was a wonderful holiday, my first with Exodus . The walking and views are exceptional, the hotel , staff ,food could not be faulted . A great group, lots of fun and a really good time of year to go.

That's easy, swimming in the sea and then drinking chilled proscecco sitting on the beach at Amalfi .

Eric our group leader was great. He organised everything (including the beach experience ) and led us on some amazing walks. He was very friendly and had some good stories to tell.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take a variety of clothes if you go in October as the days can be quite warm but it gets cooler in the evenings.

Great trip. Very well organised and a pleasure to be on. Best if you like rocks – there are a lot around.
Most Inspirational Moment
I had ten inspirational moments - the five lunches and five dinners that Mohammed managed to magic out of two gas cookers each day of the trek - absolutely cracking food.We also had a delightful stop-off at a local lady's house for tea and biscuits.

Abdullah was great. Very friendly and helpful, and certainly knew his stuff.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Not really - come prepared to put some effort in as a couple of the days are fairly long - you will appreciate getting to camp and resting up.

Excellent holiday, really well organised and a challenge.

The final day was brilliant. A 7km off road climb, before a huge descent that ended on the beach. We all ended up swimming in the sea, dodging the huge waves!

Superb. Liz was a great tour leader who could talk the talk and walk the walk. A great cyclist, extremely fit and a great sense of humour.
Advice for Potential Travellers
It's tough - train for it.
PETRA & WADI RUM TREK
A short, easy going trek finished off by a visit to Petra.The conditions at the camps, while theres no running water, was perfectly fine and the support crews did an excellent job.

By and large he was good - but had a tendency to overelaborate when perhaps silence would have been better. there were a few occassions where he could have picked up the tempo a little such as when we were at Petra where people were conscious of being on a tight time schedule.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take wet wipes, light weight boots and compede. Also for the scrambling, try and get some gloves unless you want to have your finger prints erased.

Advice for Potential Travellers
As a group, we felt that the stops for lunch were unnecessarily long and resulted in late afternoon arrival at destination hotel. Arriving late meant that there was little daylight time for exploring or enjoying the new environment.
Reply from Exodus
The hotels that we use on the Premium departure of this trip are the best options available to us in each location visited when taking into account our group requirements. We need to use lodgings that can cater for a group of up to 16 passengers plus our support team of 4. This does leave us with a fairly limited choice in comparison to countries with a more established tourism infrastructure, but still enables us to successfully run Premium departures with a higher than usual standard of accommodation. The descriptions that we give of hotels are all honest and certainly not intended to be misleading in any way.
The concept of efficient customer service as we know it is still in its infancy in some Central American destinations meaning that some processes experienced at restaurants and hotels can be understandably frustrating. We have developed long lasting relationships with various restaurants/cafes en route which enable us to spend a relatively short amount of time ordering and paying for lunches for a group of our size. A bit of flexibility is built into the itinerary in order to allow for delays as well as local conditions and client preferences on how long is spent dining.
The focus of the trip is upon cycling, and as a lot of ground is covered through three countries this understandably makes up the vast majority of the activity time. The only way to include more time in National Parks looking for wildlife would be to shorten certain biking stages and increase the amount of time spent in transit on road transfers – something that I feel the majority of our clients would disapprove of in this case.
Some beach time is available on Ometepe Island (Lake Nicaragua), at Playa Marsella (Pacific Coast en route to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua), Black Beach (Cahuita, Costa Rica). Plus a full day at Bocas del Toro (Panama) during the free day on Day 11 where beautiful beaches can be visited on an excursion from the hotel.
A range of feedback from other group members has been received which we will be reviewing as always in conjunction with our local operator in Central America. We are of course grateful for all client input as it helps us to continuously evaluate and refine how our trips are designed.

BORNEO WILDLIFE DISCOVERER
Wonderful wildlife ecounters -we were so privileged!
Most Inspirational Moment
Our dream was to glimpse an Orangutan in the wild. We were blessed to see a Mother with her baby in the forest on the way to the Gomantong cave. The 'Bat Exodus' from Mulu Caves was unbelievable and has to be seen to be believed-it is stunning.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Manuel was absolutely brilliant. A credit to Exodus and his country. So knowledgable and kind. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble for him. Everything flowed smoothly in his capable hands.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Just to reiterate it is very humid!! You will sweat buckets, so be prepared and keep well hydrated. We loved the privilege of being able to trek through pristine rainforest. Don't worry about the leeches, they're really more of an annoyance and you can buy perfectly adequate leech socks locally.
PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI
A safari like no other…. If you want to feel like you have been beamed in to a David Attenborough documentary, together with a small group of like-minded wildlife and photography enthusiasts for company, then this is the trip for you. Advice and daily slide shows from trip leader Paul along with tips and ideas from fellow travellers were both inspiring and informative. The Kicheche camp was wonderful, with its wild setting, excellent service, food and facilities. The wildlife was incredible and as it will always vary, I can only tell you that there will be many memorable moments and a favourite early in the week will be overtaken by another by the end of the trip. We will be back.
