Isalo is a vast region of wind-polished and water-scoured rock towers, deep canyons, gorges and oases. The rocky landscape is perfect for exploring on foot. The lower reaches feature rock-strewn streams that trickle under the forest canopy, home to a population of ring-tailed lemur.
Higher up, the landscape becomes much more arid, providing the ideal habitat for succulents, including members of the aloe family and the aptly named elephant’s foot plant. On Isalo National Park tours you’ll also learn about the area’s traditional burial tombs, tucked high into the nooks and crannies of the rocks.

An adventure rich in culture and discovery through Madagascar
This was our first holiday with Exodus and our first group holiday and looking back was probably one of the best holidays we have had. It was great to see such a wide variety of landscape and we were very lucky with the amount of wildlife we saw. We were in a group of 10 people and it was nice to share the experience with others. Our group leader, Rija made the trip so interesting. The final few days on the beach was very relaxing.
This trip gives you a glimpse of an incredibly varied country rich with unique wildlife and landscapes. Yes the roads maybe a bit bumpy 🙂 but you soon forget that when every day you see so many endemic lemurs, sifakas, chameleons and, if you are lucky, a fossa. The tour leader Rija is the best that I have ever met on an Exodus trip. Her vast knowledge and infectious passion made the trip even more special and memorable.
