Great walking holiday

Really enjoyed this trip. Many activities, so many that I had to have a day off. Saw bears. Lots.

Most Inspirational Moment

Bears. Bran Castle. Walking around mountain top in the fog.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was great. Gave a really interesting talk about Romania. Could maybe slightly improve navigation skills.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a compass.

If you go down in the woods today....

A superb holiday in beautiful countryside, staying in an excellent local hotel with walks that make the most of what the region has to offer.

Most Inspirational Moment

Realising that bears were probably within a kilometre or so of us as we walked through the forest. Julian's enthusiasm about all things 'bear' was catching. His expertise was not, however, limited to bears. The most photographed moment was on the last night when a small group of ladies from the village came to share traditional songs and dances. Seeing fellow walkers joining in with enthusiasm was a special moment.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Julian is a superbly knowledgeable leader. His long association with the region makes him an expert in the area's cultural heritage, as well as in local flora and fauna. His extensive knowledge of the mountain tracks and paths meant that there was always an alternative possible if weather conditions dictated a change of route.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for changes in the daily routes - the mountain weather is unpredictable and thunderstorms meant we had to abandon one climb for a more sheltered walk. Late snow also meant we did not reach the highest point described in the trip notes. The alternative were always carefully explained and fascinating. Bring waterproofs. Delicious four course meals can become a habit. Be prepared either to keep up the strenuous walking routine at home or suffer hunger pangs for the first few days at home.

Fabulous!

This was a fantastic trip, one of the best that I’ve done. I’d always (wrongly) been a bit dismissive of Bali, thinking it was a place of resorts. How wrong was I?! We went to some beautiful places in both Bali and Java. The scenery was incredible, the people lovely, the food great. It is quite hilly with some very demanding climbs on the 2nd and 7th day but the support vehicle is always there. I’ve done a number of cycling trips and would say that this is more moderate/challenging. Even the trek up Ijen was a toughie but with spectacular views and the most toxic lake in the world at the top. On the second day there was an optional cycle around Batur which was off road. I think this needed to be explained how difficult it was, as unfortunately one of the group had an accident. Maybe an optional activity could be arranged, such as boating on the lake.
I’d been diagnosed with a condition before leaving which has caused some mobility issues but the team couldn’t have been more considerate or caring, from lowering the saddle when I stopped so I could swing my leg over, to helping me on and off the bus and down steps – all without asking; even giving me a push up the hills when it was too uncomfortable!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many. Each day had inspirational moments, as the scenery was so spectacular. We visited a number of temples which were beautiful and interesting. Really enjoyed the Holy Hot springs. The Ijen trek was incredible at the top. We stayed in some lovely hotels and the beach camping with BBQ was lovely. I've never seen such a beautiful beach - deserted! The Homestay with the walk to the waterfall and hot springs was fun.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wira was fantastic. Very knowledge about his country, very approachable, very caring. He couldn't do enough. The whole team were a well-oiled machine. Wayun, the sweeper, was incredible too, helping whenever I got uncomfortable. The drivers and support produced fantastic lunches in the middle of nowhere!

Advice for Potential Travellers

I'd strongly recommend this trip. Just be aware that there were hills in the heat and quite a lot of off-roading. The last day had a very long transfer.

Cycling Albania

Interesting, challenging adventure trip mostly in rural Albania with some days on the Ionian coast.

Most Inspirational Moment

One late afternoon we had a chance to visit the thermal springs of Benji. We had to cross an ancient foot bridge to get to the pool. It was awesome to be in warm waters in the middle of nowhere looking at beautiful pasture and snowy peaks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

This was the only sub-par part of the trip. Our leader biked by himself most of the time, leaving us for ourselves. There was a van support, but it was very behind us, sometimes ahead of us leaving us without support. The leader failed to point out the beauty, the scenery and most of the time the guiding was very superficial, lacked enthusiasm. This was my 3rd trip with Exodus, and the other two trip leaders were so much better.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure to be in good form, the hills are steep. This is not a trip for a beginner.

A wonderful walking holiday in Spain.

What a wonderful trip to the Picos in Spain. Hotel and food was excellent. Our guides (Nacho and Jairo) were brilliant. I couldn’t fault anything.

Most Inspirational Moment

All of it! Possibly not some of the muddy conditions, but otherwise everything!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent!

Awesome trip, brilliant guide

What an awesome trip, great cycling across different terrain, super food and loads to see.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lunch at the vineyard was excellent. Great to see such wonderful historic towns and cities.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was a brilliant guide, very calm, knowledgeable and always willing to do anything extra for the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pick a trip where Michele is a guide, he is great.

Best ever❣️

So many wonderful moments. First the people of Botswana are the nicest I’ve ever met. And I’ve traveled a lot. The guide, Ngande, was so knowledge about plants, animals, birds, reptiles and his country. He was professional, friendly and handle even breakdowns (there was one) with efficiency. The cook, Mello, ensure 3 delicious meals a day cooked on an open fire. And the assistants put up tents and made sure details were taken care of.

Now for the wildlife – lions, leopards, warthogs, hyenas, zebras, elephants, hippos, incredible bird life and so much more.

My friend and I agree it was truly the best ever trip and worth our 39 hours of flying❣️❣️❣️

Most Inspirational Moment

Not just one moment. We had an amazing group of 12 and we all continually had a fantastic time. From baby hyenas to elephants 20 feet away. Incredible.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ngande was the best. Shared so much, kept us safe and answered a zillion questions. He kept his staff moving and took care of them too. Perfect leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take less then you thought you needed (it gets heavy), winter is chilly, dryer wipes keep the mosquitoes and bugs away, buy a small, powerful camera, Amazon sells a very lightweight sleeping bag, a cotton scarf 🧣 for the dusty car rides, plenty of suntan lotion, and enjoy every moment.

Amazing trip of a lifetime!!

This trip was the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life!! It was tough but so rewarding and has inspired me to do more trips of this nature now.

Most Inspirational Moment

The complete support from guide to Porter's was absolutely amazing. To watch how hard the Porter's work carrying everything from the toilet to pretty much the kitchen sink! These guys are so inspirational

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Holger was outstanding from start to end, constantly checking up on every member of the group, being very knowledgeable of the local history and very warm and welcoming at all times

Advice for Potential Travellers

If doing the Inca Trail try to get a certain level of fitness before as this will help make the journey easier

Fantastic trip!

This is a fantastic cycling trip around Bali and Java – two beautiful islands in Indonesia. The Exodus team of guides/driver were brilliant and ensured that everything ran very smoothly. They often went above and beyond. The cycling is great – each ride different but equally stunning. Be prepared for a lot of uphill climbing, but this also means a lot of very fun down hill rides! Some of which are very steep. Because of how many climbs there are on this trip (especially day 2 and day 7 that are very difficult), I would argue this trip should be graded as Moderate/Challenging. There are also a few off-road rides (mostly on the last day). There is an optional ride in the afternoon of day 2 around Batur volcano; our expectations of the challenging terrain on this ride were not quite set accurately enough. Although beautiful, it is incredibly challenging and was harder than expected. It should be made clear that this is definitely optional and should only really be done if you are an advanced cyclist. Cycling 9 days in a row without a rest break is quite tiring, but each day brings a new highlight. The itinerary, overall, is very good. Trekking up to the top of Ijen volcano is amazing, as is snorkelling in northern Bali. Every accommodation is amazing in its own way – camping on the beach was absolutely incredible! An experience I won’t forget. This was one of my favourite cycling trips and I would wholeheartedly recommend it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Trekking up to Ijen crater (and down again) was more difficult than expected (being very steep), but a real highlight of the trip. Snorkelling from the boat in Bali was beautiful, I even saw a turtle! In general the islands are absolutely stunning and seeing the culture, temples, people and natural beauty was great.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader (Wira) was fantastic - his knowledge is extensive and he is very friendly and approachable. There were 5 people part of the team and all of them were very caring and made the trip brilliant.

Excellent for single travelers

It was my first holiday as a single woman and I was a little nervous. Now I can’t wait to book my next trip with exodus. The guide Alan was excellent – I always felt well looked after and if I found myself a bit behind on some of the climbs I never felt under pressure or at risk of getting lost. Alan’s descriptions of difficulty and distance were a great help and accurate. There was an age range of 20 -70 but we all got on brilliantly. Meals were all taken together ( the possibility of having to eat alone had been another concern for me before booking). The scenery was stunning,, the sea was warm and beautifully clear, motorists were considerate, the food was great and the local people lovely. Personally I preferred the countryside to Dubrovnik but I’m a country girl – there was the most amazing sweet shop in Dubrovnik old town tho 😁

Most Inspirational Moment

The people - the group I was cycling with and the locals were so supportive cheering everyone as we made it to the top of a tough climb. The views from the top of the hills and swimming in the lake a a few of the best bits - too many other good bits to list them all.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan was great. always felt safe, knew where I was going, I felt fine at the back even if I couldn’t always see the person in front because I knew I wouldn’t be left behind . Alan would always keep track of where everyone was. He spent time with everyone in the group cycling at their pace not trying to get people to speed up or slow down. There were briefings often so we all knew what was happening.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I considered taking my own road bike - dont - the bikes were excellent and fitted perfectly even though I’m only 5’3 . Even a hybrid bike would not have coped with to few off road sections. They also provided a handle bar bag that was really useful. Take a cash card or cash - as well as credit card - we used cash for most meals and some places didn’t take cards at all.
