Treasures of Sicily

Well balanced holiday with a good guide as well as good local guides who had more detailed knowledge of the sites. Plenty of variety in the other activities,

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Straits of Messina AND the meal cooked at the AGRITURISMO hotel in Busseto Palizzolo.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was pleasant, engaged, efficient and knowledgable about his homeland

A Life Experience to Treasure

Walking the trails ancient Inca pavements provided breathtaking mountain panoramas and impressive archaeological sites seemingly at every turn, coped with a physical challenge including traversing the high point at Dead Woman’s Pass. Culminating in the truly stunning natural location of Machu Picchu. Our leader, Mike, provided a fascinating insight into Inca beliefs and their way of life that really brought the civilisation to life. At the same time he motivated, advised, cared for and entertained each and everyone! Our Cheskis support team amazed – conjuring 3 course meals from a tiny kitchen tent and portering all tents and equipment with a real style.

Truly unforgettable!

Vietnam Adventure

I cannot fault any aspect of this trip and can say without a doubt I had a truly unforgettable experience in this amazing country. The Itinerary is vary varied which allows you to experience the many different destinations, activites, culture and food throughtout the north, central & southern regions of Vietnam. All accommodation used was of a high standard and very centrally located which is another great bonus as you can experience more of a destination rather than spending time travelling to/from your hotel. The weather was very hot when I travelled in May, this did not affect the experience of the trip & I would throughly recommend this tour to anyone.

Most Inspirational Moment

The two highlights of my trip was experience the stunning scenery & sunset of Halong Bay and the beautiful lantern filled city of Hoi An.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Tour guide Manh was truly amazing. Manh had a great personality, his knowledge & passion for Vietnam was clear to see and he provided us with endless information which we would not have learned if travelling on our own, (Especially how to safely cross a road!) Manh worked endlessly to ensure all aspects of our trip ran smoothly & no request was too much trouble for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just to go with the flow.

Book it.

The tour is brilliant, book it.
The hotel is lovely, all the staff were very helpful and owners not only speak English but were Leaders themselves so they know all about the walks and the area. The hotel food was excellent and there is a drying room, and washing line, so you can wash/dry clothes and boots. My room had a bath and a shower, heaven after a long days walk. Magnificent views from the South facing pretty garden terrace ( and the bar and restaurant) and drinks very reasonably priced.
Guide , excellent, knew the mountains very well, even when covered with snow! Very reassuring.
Long walks but very quiet, we hardly saw anyone each day, which was lovely (apart from Carres Gorge – take a hat as no shade) we were well off the main “highway” fantastic views every step.
And no hidden costs as a full breakfast, packed lunch provided and a 3 course evening meal.

Atlas Panorama

Our time in the Atlas mountains was a wonderful experience and we all found each walk very different and the scenery was stunning. Our Riad was basic but comforatble with a balcony giving superb views. The food was all local produce and typical of the area, making the whole mountain experience very authentic. Our visit to the local Hamman was a highlight and local village ladies that assisted in the ritual all helped to make the afternoon a very special one. One slight concern was that our walking guide Hassan was spending hours in the hot temperatures without any food or water as it was Ramadan. We all felt concerned that he was dehydrated by the end of the day. A lovely kind and experienced guide.
We added a few more days on to our holiday to relax which made the walking break into a holiday! A wonderful experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

The most inspirational moment of the trip was when we climbed to the top of the mountain and looked over the full mountain range of the Atlas Mountains. It was breathtaking.

Diversity at its best!

Cosa Rica has such diversity, you will experience rouged mountains, rolling hills, virgin forest ,tropical beaches and beautiful waterways to view the homes of the turtles, not to mention the
numerous butterflies, birds and mammals you will encounter.
San Jose is not a place to savour but after a good nights sleep in a fabulous city hotel (the decor, staff and food is first class ) you will be off to start your adventure.
You will have good accommodation in lovely locations.
Be warned some nights you will be chilly and the dampness can be a problem, after all you are often in a rainforest environment, when I returned everything in my suitcase and its contents were damp.
This is a small price to pay for the things you will see!…do be willing to take the walks, you will miss out so much if you decide to stay at the base or take a bus.
We had lovely weather every morning before the rain came most afternoons…so dont go for this type of holiday to stay in bed till 9….you will miss the best times!…up at 6 and bed at 9-10 is a norm.
This trip has a nice balance of trip and leisure with a brilliant guide,it you want a holiday….dont go!…if you want an experience book now!

Most Inspirational Moment

Having the pleasure of a different bird or mammal every day....they really are there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Extremely good... very experienced and full of knowledge....told us important thing.... but appreciated silence! Didnt treat us like we were on a sunday school outing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of cheap t shirts etc because you will not have chance to wash and dry as your always moving ..it wont dry in time.....its not a fashion show...be practical.

Excellent trip

I had originally booked for the Cycling Nicaragua-Costa Rica-Panama, but it got cancelled 2-3 weeks before the trip due to the situation in Nicaragua. I decided to do Cycling Madagascar instead and I was not disappointed at all. I had an excellent time and I enjoyed every single day of the trip, both cycling and non-cycling days. The landscape is simple breathtaking. I have to say that the tour guide (Armel) made a huge difference and made this trip memorable.

Most Inspirational Moment

I can think of more than one! - Cycling at sunrise riding towards the full moon while the sun was slowly rising behind us. It was simply surreal. - Night walk in the rainforest looking for chameleons with millions of starts shining above us and the sound of the nature. - Riding through the small villages in the remote areas and the entire family greeting us and the cute little kids jumping up and down as if we were doing 'Tour de France'! :) - The exilerating long downhills surrounded with mountains.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Armel was simply amazing. He was very passionate about his country and the tour. He was full of energy and always had a big smile. He cared about every single member of the group and did not leave anybody out. Without him, the tour would not have been the same!

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are quite a few hills to climb so make sure you have a decent fitness level.

?

The trip was slightly different from previous Exodus cycling trips I’ve been on in that the distances travelled were shorter than usual. As a result, there were plenty of opportunities to stop off at local shrines, hot springs, cottage industries, climb craters, cycling the many downhills, cycling across a river etc. as well as regular welcome breaks from the heat.
There was more off road cycling than usual. I don’t usually like off road cycling but I coped with it OK, especially with the advice and encouragement I got from the cycling team. The group was smaller than usual (6 only) which meant that we all had a lot of time to get to know each other and enjoy the uphill challenges together!
The overnight hotels varied from the luxurious to the very basic.. The Dutch homestead in East Java had a toilet but no toilet paper or towel. It was situated quite close to a mosque which celebrated Ramadan using loud speakers to summon the faithful for hours on end, including during the night.
There was one very long day in a bus (over 9 hours) which was unavoidable given the itinerary but which was not the most pleasant experience in my life.

Most Inspirational Moment

Climbing up the Ijen Volcano to see the blue acidic lake and the sulphur miners at work. The glorious beaches in Java and the sunsets over rhe beach at Kuta (after the trip was over)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wira was an excellent leader fitting in well with the various personalities on the trip. He was cheerful throughout with a sense of humour which we could all appreciate. He had an exceptional knowledge of the route we cycled each day. His local knowledge about Bali/East Java, both current and the past, was extensive. He managed the other members of the team with skill to provide a seamless trip for us without any hitches or unforeseen circumstances. Wayan, his no 2, was a superb, gentle giant of a man with an astonishing grasp of Balinese legends as well as infinite patience in dealing with me when, from time to time, I was bringing up the rear of the " peleton" Wira and all his team contributed significantly to the enjoyment of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for some fairly hard (for me) cycling both uphill and on the extended, quite technical downhills.

Walking in Tuscany

This was an excellent tour. The accommodation was delightful and all the people there were charming and so accommodating. The guide – Sara Bull – was superb and the walking was enjoyable and in places spectacular without being too arduous.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving at the rock arch on Monte Ferato. Stunning. And this was a walk that was not in the original itinerary. We went there because the weather was not good enough for Monte Sumbra.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara Bull is one of the best group leaders I have come across. Extremely knowledgeable, very well organised, very aware of the needs and capabilities of her clients and good company. She took great care to ensure that everyone knew what was going on, managed all their end of tour travel (surely not within her scope to buy tickets and provide tourist information to those going on to other places) and took care to ensure that my wife (who was not walking with us) had all the information she needed. We had a minor accident on one of the walks and Sara handled the situation very competently and professionally. Excellent all round.

The serene and the frantic

A good balance of the ancient and modern, as the trip title suggests. Travelling by public transport helps to convey the flavour of “normal” life in the country rather than a whistle-stop tour of “tourist” destinations.

Most Inspirational Moment

The overall sense of order and respect for others, even in crowded city centres. The attention given to presentation - of food and everything else.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ayaka took great trouble to ensure we optimised our time by being fully prepared: helpful annotated maps, advice on tickets, and so forth. She took us to a variety of types of restaurant for the optional meals, which are not in the programme, but where in fact the majority of the group chose to eat together. And she was great fun !

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't worry about whether it's cherry blossom time: there are plenty of beautiful sights anyway. Be prepared to pay cash for meals if the group eat together.
