ATLAS PANORAMA

This was an excellent trip! A good mix between the busy city of Marrakesh and the stunning scenery of the Atlas mountains.

Most Inspirational Moment

Staying at the gite for four nights was the highlight of the trip for me. We were able to walk each day from the door, it was a great opportunity to see/experience some of the village life, at night the view of the stars from the roof terrace was amazing and the food provided for us was fantastic - a hot tagine waiting for us mid-way through a 10 hour hike was much appreciated! Of course I enjoyed the walks too and I met some great people who I hope to stay in touch with.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Hassan, was very knowledgeable and patient and dealt well with the demands of a mixed ability group. I also think he has a great sense of humour....

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes - they do say to take thermals/warm clothes in winter on this trip and they will come in useful for cool nights in the gite!Don't worry about changing money - you can do this easily at the airport in Marrakesh on arrival. Don't bother with the water purification tablets - we were advised to drink/use bottled water and this was easily available and very cheap (but admittedly there are no facilities for recycling the empty bottles).

MOUNTAINS & VILLAGES OF CORSICA

A most enjoyable holiday: wonderful scenery, good variety of walks, excellent leader, great company and lovely sunny hot weather most of the time.  Comfortable hotel, within easy walking distance of the village bakery and a good bar, as well as being close to the railway station.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many of them, throughout the holiday, including the great view of mountains from the balcony of the hotel,  superb views during our walks (particularly those in the mountains), and from the train on our various railway journeys  (i.e. on 3 of the 5 walking days, and on our day off, when most of us went to Ajaccio).      I loved the fact that we never had to travel by mini-bus at the start or end of the walks.  If we weren't using the train, we started the walk from the hotel.     The group was full of interesting people, and we got on very well  (and gave the bar in the village plenty of business),  so that was another big plus point about the holiday.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rudy was very well-organised, knowledgeable, reliable, considerate, patient, and helpful at all times, but with a good sense of humour too.  He always tried to ensure that we were all able to go at a pace that suited us:  for anyone who wished to go ahead he would explain the route in advance (including any points where there was a danger of going the wrong way).   He was very good at giving us the opportunity of visiting bars in any villages that we passed through (and even, on the final day, carrying provisions so that he could brew teas / coffees for us in a shepherd's hut for which he had the key).

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes are pretty accurate, so if you like the sound of it, go ahead and book it!  The quality of the food and drink at the hotel was excellent but don't expect many vegetables with the evening meal (I understand that this is typical, rather than a feature of this particular hotel).   Also don't expect a big variety of choice at breakfast.  It consisted of fruit juice, croissants, bread, jam and tea/coffee.  But the bread was always fresh and plentiful.   The hotel owners, and staff. were always friendly and helpful.

WALKING IN TUSCANY

A truly wonderful week -gorgeous walks, marvellous scenery and really good food!

Most Inspirational Moment

Enjoying one of Mama's picnic lunches from the top of the mountain with stunning views all around.Braccicorti -you are made to feel part of the family at this beautiful Tuscan farm. This was our second visit back after 9 years and Mama remembered us!

Thoughts on Group Leader

What else can we say about the lovely Sara Bull that hasn't already been said?  She really makes your holiday  memorable and so wants you to have the best time possible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just do it! You won't regret it!

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: KVITAVATN

This was a really enjoyable holiday for the thrill of learning to ski, the people, the scenery and the food.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think the most inspirational moment was the first day that our group went off- piste on the mountain away from the resort. Making fresh tracks down the slopes brought back the same feeling you had as a kid braced to slide down a hill that no one has sledged down before.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both leaders were excellent. I appreciated the fact that both Ilse and Chris kept everyone in the group involved, with both encouragement and words of advice. The beginners lessons were also structured well so that the learning bits were interspersed with having fun on the tracks so that you never felt too bogged down thinking about your technique.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You don't need to take much local currency, unless you're planning to spend a day in the local town. Enough for a few drinks in the evening and some gifts.

WALKING THE GREAT WALL

Probably the best trip I’ve ever been on- lovely group, awesome country, words can’t describe how amazing and immense the Great Wall is…

Most Inspirational Moment

The first sighting of the wall, despite all the tourists and the misty conditions. We were here and we were ready to explore!Walking all day and not encountering anyone else, or maybe just a few 'donkey travellers'. It really felt like we were walking the wall and doing something different to the masses. When people tell me that they've seen the Great Wall, I reply that they've seen a teeny tiny bit but that i've really seen it.Staying in Chinese villages where noone spoke English- we really did get off the beaten track!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Kevin is the perfect tour leader- friendly, efficient and like a little mountain goat! He had boundless energy and was always happy to go that extra mile, accompanying those of us who wanted to walk a little more etc. A great source of information, always happy to help and helped the evenings fly by too. I'm sure we'd all be happy to be Kevin's concubines or cucumbers again!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go!! Enjoy, explore and recommend!Toilet roll was the most useful thing i packed- there wasn't any in most of the places we stayedBe prepared to sweat! It's tiring but definitely worth it

VIETNAM ADVENTURE

A good way to see the highlights of Vietnam.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were a number of inspirational moments on this trip - I personally loved the boat trip on Halong Bay, the Historic town of Hoi An and waterside living in the Mekong Delta.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khiem, the group leader, looked after us all very well and took us to fantastic restaurants. Our group was diverse but he was very inclusive and patient. I'm especially grateful to him for keeping me safe on the roads.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This is not a physically demanding holiday in terms of hiking and climbing mountains but an awful lot is crammed into a short time and there is no time for relaxation. There are 2 very early morning flights and I felt very tired a lot of the time. Make sure you get a good nights sleep before the flight to Vietnam.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

Brilliant holiday very well run

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra was everything I hoped it would be, but the dead sea and red sea was also good.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was such a nice man nothing too much trouble

Advice for Potential Travellers

Jordan is must see place

CYCLE NICARAGUA, COSTA RICA AND PANAMA

I had the most fabulous time! I met an amazing bunch of people, saw some beautiful sights and came home relaxed and recharged. It took me quite a while to come back down from this one!!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many inspirational moments - white water rafting, seeing & hearing the howler monkeys, giggling all the way down a very long descent in hot rain on my bike, visting the hot springs near Fortuna, relaxing at Mystica (very beautiful), snorkelling around Bocas, cocktails with my travelling companions, going for a swim in an Olympic Size Pool in the middle of no here on my own @ 5:30am with palm trees gently swaying and deer watching beside the pool ........amazing................The Hacienda Hotel is undoubtedly the most colourful place I have ever stayed at in my entire life!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rob our group leader was a fantastic guide, as were his colleagues Paul, Brit & Ronaldo. Rob, Paul & Brit are all very keen experienced cyclists and knew exactly how to pace our group. They were all great company all of the time, not just when we were on the bikes. We did not want for anything. Ronaldo was just wonderful - always appearing at just the right time with sliced pineapple & melon whenever we needed it!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of quick drying cycling clothes that you can wash out while you are moving from hotel to hotel. There is a laundry service available but not at every location.Baby wipes are handy when you are hot and sweaty..........

CYCLE INDOCHINA & ANGKOR

Two weeks cycling through 3 amazing countries, getting a glimpse of the culture, seeing some wonderful sights and tasting delicious food.

Most Inspirational Moment

The temple complexes at Angkor Wat. My favourite temple which you don’t hear much about or see many pictures of is the Bayon temple with lots of gigantic 4 faced stone heads. It is truly amazing and so difficult to capture on camera.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nee did a fantastic job looking after the whole group, making sure we were OK, that we hadn’t forgotten anything, getting the food orders right in the restaurants, etc. She always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help with whatever problems or questions you might have. She was a great cyclist too and was happy to lead at the front or accompany some of the slower riders (like me). Also the fruits and snacks provided during the breaks were exceptional. I had the best mango I’ve ever tasted and I’m glad a tried all the other exotic fruit I’d never seen before. My personal favourite was the dragon fruit. Yum!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Whilst crossing the borders by bike is quite exciting, it is also very bureaucratic and takes quite a long time. Think hours not minutes. The mattresses on the beds are REALLY hard. There is a long wait at KL airport for the retun flight to London but there is a reasonable amount of places to shop, eat, drink, sit, etc.

HIGHLANDS OF SRI LANKA

We thought that Sri Lanka is simply amazing. Our guide Sampath Kulatunge was the best we have ever had in any of our travels. All of the people of Sri Lanka seem to be open, friendly but shy. We climbed Adams peak on New Years Day and everbody was telling us "Good Morning & Happy New Year".

Most Inspirational Moment

Going to the Tooth Temple. It was the most peaceful religious site we have ever visited.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Always with a smile and a song.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is little or no chance to do laundry. When we were there is rained 12 of 14 days so things got wet and stayed wet. Put newspaper in your shoes/boots to dry them.
