Start Pieve di Soligo
The trip starts in Pieve di Soligo, a small village in the heart of the Prosecco Hills, approximately 37mi (60km) north of Venice. Here, lush vineyards cover the slopes of every possible hill, and old churches, abbeys, villas and ancient castles dot the landscape. Prosecco has been produced here for centuries, but only more recently, thanks to the surge in its popularity worldwide, has the area captured a deserved spotlight. Nevertheless, relatively few tourists visit this wine region each year, making it an ideal location for a week of walking, wine tasting and cultural discovery. Depending on the group arrival time, there might be time for a quick orientation walk near our hotel.
Fly to Venice; transfer to Pieve di Soligo
Fly to Venice and transfer to Pieve di Soligo, a small village located in the heart of the Prosecco hills, approximately 37mi (60km) north of Venice. The surrounding area is picturesque. Lush vineyards cover the slopes of every possible hill and old churches, abbeys, villas and ancient castles dot the landscape. Prosecco has been produced here for centuries, but only more recently, thanks to the surge in its popularity worldwide, has the area captured the deserved spotlight. Nevertheless, relatively few tourists visit this wine region each year, making it an ideal location for our week of walking, wine tasting and cultural discovery in a still very authentic rural part of Italy. Depending on the group arrival time, there might be some time for a quick orientation walk near our hotel.
Morning walk around the medieval villages of Cison di Valmarino and Follina; visit a 12th-century Cistercian abbey
This morning, we transfer to Cison di Valmarino, one of the best-preserved villages in the Prosecco area, containing historic monuments and buildings that reveal its past role as a major feudal estate. The gentle walk follows a waterway, crossing tranquil woodlands and passing by the ancient manor and fortress of Castelbrando, which offers panoramic views over the farmland and villages far below. The walk ends in Follina, best known for the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria, a mystical site enclosing one of most beautiful cloisters in Italy. The monks were the first to boost the development of textiles in this area, weaving wool here from the Middle Ages. In the afternoon, we return to the hotel and the remainder of the day is free to relax in the village or take an optional short walk along the picturesque riverbanks near our hotel. In the evening, we experience our first wine tasting of the week at a local restaurant: a glass of prosecco followed by two local wines. Some nibbles complement the experience.
Circular walk in the heartland of the Prosecco region; visit one of the best local producers for a wine tasting and to learn about the wine-making process
Today’s walk takes us to the heartland of the Prosecco Hills, namely Valdobbiadene, San Pietro di Barbozza and San Stefano. Most of the local winemakers are based right here, among the steep terraced hills, which are arguably the prettiest in the Veneto region. Our walk follows a mix of human-made tracks and paths twisting through the vineyards and offers spectacular views of the fertile landscape and hillside hamlets. During the walk, we can visit the Pietrovecchio winery, one of the top local prosecco producers. After a general introduction to the winery and its history, we can sample different varieties of prosecco on a guided wine-tasting. We return to the hotel in the afternoon.
Morning guided sightseeing in provincial capital, Treviso; afternoon relaxing walk in River Sile Natural Park
In the morning, we transfer to the pretty capital province of Treviso, often overlooked by tourists and overshadowed by neighbouring Venice. Rebuilt and restored after bombing during the Second World War, the town centre is a maze of streets lined with arcaded walkways. The town is circled by a pretty wall and waterways, which add to its picturesque, elegant style. After a walking tour of the town centre accompanied by a local guide, we enjoy free time to wander at our own pace and have lunch (tiramisu was apparently invented in this city). In the afternoon, we leave the walls of Treviso and follow the Sile, the longest river of resurgent waters in Europe. This tranquil route through a nature reserve offers the opportunity to explore the local flora and fauna and highlights the age-old relationship between humans and this river. Return to the hotel in the evening.
Visit the Unesco-listed Villa Barbaro before ascending to Monte San Giorgio; walk to the elegant hilltop town of Asolo
After a short private transfer, we reach another marvel of the Prosecco area and the start point of today’s walk: Villa Barbaro in Maser. The Unesco-protected villa is one of the masterpieces of the Italian architect Andrea Palladio (1508-80). It is situated in the middle of a flourishing privately owned estate and six rooms adorned by beautiful frescos are open to the public. After a short visit, we set off for our walk, starting with a climb to Monte San Giorgio, overlooking the villa. The route then veers west, following one of the original frontlines used during the First World War. The conflict affected most of this area and many other towns around the Prosecco Hills. During the walk, we see evidence and memorials to epic deeds. Our end point is the elegant hilltop town of Asolo, known as the Pearl of the Treviso Province for its beautiful setting and charming historic centre. Enjoy free time and return to Pieve di Soligo for dinner.
Free day; take an optional trip to Venice or spend an afternoon in the pretty town of Conegliano
We have a free day to visit the lovely town of Conegliano (the other major centre of Prosecco production and wine studies) or take a daytrip to Venice (only a short train ride away).
Panoramic walk through the alpine landscape of Monte Cesen: enjoy a 360-degree view of the Venetian Prealps
Our final walk takes us above the Prosecco Hills to Mount Cesen, a rounded, grassy mountain, and the highest in the Venetian Prealps. Rising just above the Piave River, at an altitude of 5,151ft (1,570m), it offers a stunning panorama, plus popular walking trails that cross mountain pastures and meadows, and a landscape that differs completely to the one we explored earlier in the week. On a clear day, views can stretch as far as the eastern Alps, Dolomites and Venice. In the evening, we tuck into a farewell dinner in one of the best local restaurants, enjoying a panorama of the Prosecco Hills as we eat.
End Pieve di Soligo
You’ve walked and sipped your way through one of the most picturesque wine regions in Italy. Now, however, it’s time for a final breakfast, before beginning your journey home. If you’d like to explore a little more, speak to your sales representative and arrange a longer stay in the hotel, which may feel a little like home by now.
Transfer to Venice and fly to London
This trip ends in the morning of Day 8 in Pieve di Soligo. The morning is free to visit Pieve Di Soligo’s weekly market. The group will be transferred to Venice airport in the afternoon for the inbound flight to London which is usually scheduled to depart after 4pm.

Our group leader Vania was wonderful. She was always mindful of each individual in the group and made sure all travellers could participate. She had a lovely sense of humour and made sure there was a bar with Prosecco at the end of most walks so we could appreciate the Prosecco Hills fully!
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take walking poles. The trip is described as leisurely. However, there are parts on loose stones and some walks had very steep climbs. Walking poles are essential, as some of our party tripped on some paths.

What an amazing first trip to Italy! I joined a very interesting and diverse Exodus group from all walks of life. We stayed in a small Town an hour North of Venice and it was amazing – from local cultures and food to breathtaking walks in the Hills.

Couldn't have been better
A week walking in the Prosecco Hills couldn’t have been better. The walking was easy going, with picnic lunches (three of the days). We sampled the local wine and learned a lot about it too (I’d never really thought about where this lovely wine came from in Italy before). Visiting the beautiful town of Treviso, we walked by the river on a ‘rest day’. The week went far too quickly and I think most if not all of us wished it could have been longer. We had an exceptional guide, who looked after everyone so well.

We couldn't have asked for a better leader. Full of enthusiasm and always smiling, Vania took care of everyone so well. When a few in the group found it hard to get up the hill due to the heat, she was up and down, making sure that everyone was okay, giving the clearest instructions for those of us who were slightly ahead. She was very impressive in how she was able to take care of a diverse group.
Brilliant trip
This was a brilliant trip. Short walks with a fair amount of up and down through rolling hills, but nothing difficult, though if it’s hot, as it was for the week I did it, it can be a bit taxing. The hotel was lovely, by the river, close to the centre of town with a variety of restaurants and bars nearby, including two just a few steps away across the rear courtyard. The programme was varied with as much emphasis on the prosecco as the walking. In fact, I have found myself describing it to friends as a wine tour with some walking attached.
Most Inspirational Moment
The views especially with a glass of prosecco in hand. By chance, we were a group of 10 all women which in itself was fairly inspirational as between us we had most professional bases covered and discussion was frequently lively and interesting. The prosecco dispensing machine on top of a hill was an inspired piece of kit. You'll have to go to see what I mean.

Vania is amazing- enthusiastic, motivational, full of fun, with excellent English. Nothing was too much trouble and she was even available on the day off to help if we needed it. Her outstanding moment for me was running back down a hill and up again in a village to get my hat which I'd left on the table in a bar, in full sunshine and heat. And her producing a bottle of prosecco from her rucksack on Monte Cesen to celebrate reaching the highest point of the walking. She also offered help after the end of the week when we'd finished the tour, when I had a problem with my hotel in Venice.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Walking poles are handy for some of the looser steeper sections. On the day off, it takes 20-30 minutes to get to Conegliano by bus from the main square and then there are trains to Venice and Padua.

Great Fun, Big challenge
A stunningly gorgeous area and stimulating challenge in enjoyable company. Our group of seven was just the right size. The walks wound through villages with interesting sites, lovely woods and expansive vineyards, with some major ascents.

Mathea was gracious, charming, helpful and obviously loved the area. He did tend to led us a tad too quickly for us to really savor the beauty of the wooded paths.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Ah, well. Make sure you are ready for the major ascents of 400 meters! While the trip description is "easy" and "leisurely" those ascents are significant. Poles, good boots and layered clothing are essential.
Italys Prosecco hills
Lovely holiday in a good hotel central to small town. Walking through a variety of terrains. Although billed as walking in the Prosecco Hills I hadn’t realised we’d be drinking quite so much Prosecco!

Walking through the vineyards in the sunshine, and the church with beautiful frescoes in Pieve de Soligo.

Mattia was a good leader. Very supportive and caring when walkers struggled by walking with them or slowly in front to pace for them. Good local knowledge.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Although billed as level 2, I think that’s due to the Treviso day which is a sightseeing tour then a flat walk by the river. The other 4 days are a level 3. Walking is either steep up or steep down, not a lot of on the level walking. Last day is up very high. Mattia said it would be cold, would have been better to say it would be 5 degrees. (It was 20 degrees normally). Much tougher walking and with the altitude. Beautiful walk though and great views. Take travel pills if you don’t travel well on that day as lots of hairpin bends as we climbed to near the top. But I get vertigo and I was okay on the walk and the drive up, but one of the group found the drive up and down a bit concerning. A brolly is also useful as rain is straight down and no wind. Also walking pole.
Suggestions
Great holiday as ever, and the wine tasting and restaurants were great. Also hadn’t expected the first and last meal to be included in package including the drink.

This was a lovely trip! We stayed in a nice hotel, and although it had basic facilities there were plenty of good restaurants nearby. The town is pretty but there isn’t much to do there if the free day is a rainy one. Plenty of towns nearby or Venice to visit though. The scenery in the hills was stunning, and the Prosecco was amazing.

We had the most amazing week traipsing through the Prosecco Hills. Our guide , Vania, was happy to share her wealth of knowledge of the landscape as well as Prosecco. Vania made sure we were well looked after and kept us entertained with her wonderful personality. The Hotel Conta was ideal for the trip and the staff were super friendly . I would not hesitate in recommending this trip to anyone.

Great walking, excellent refreshment, star guide!
Gillian and I had a great week enjoying the walking, spectacular views, brilliant wild flowers and varied wines (both Prosecco and some very good local red wines) in the beautiful Prosecco Hills and Pre-Alps, led by the enthusiastic and ebullient Vania de Paoli. It was hotter than expected for the second half of May, making some of the unshaded uphill sections quite taxing, but Vania timed the breaks to ensure that everyone in our varied and convivial group was able (literally!) to take the walks in their stride. A very good way to get back into the swing of foreign holidays after two difficult years.
Most Inspirational Moment
The final day's walk in the Pre-Alps, starting at over 1000 metres, combined great views with wild narcissi, asfodel, orchids and many other spring flowers, in more comfortable temperatures than earlier in the week because of the altitude. And Vania topped it off by producing two bottles of Prosecco at the highest point! Outside the main programme, Vania also organised a wine and food tasting menu for us at the restaurant a few metres from the Hotel. Four courses and five red wines, all made within 15 km of the hotel and two of them particularly good, for Eur40 per head - exceptional value!

Advice for Potential Travellers
Bring walking poles and make sure you know how to use them. The walks are not particularly long but they merit the Leisurely/Moderate grading because there is significant ascent and descent, some of it sustained and on steep and rather loose paths.
