I did this add-on as a pre tour, from Lima, before my Essential Peru tour. I was the only person from Exodus on this add-on but was never alone as the groups from other companies allowed me to join them. That gave me the best of both worlds, I was not only guided by guides from these other groups but had the extra priviledge of my own Exodus guide pointing out anything they missed!
Most Inspirational Moment
Inspiring moments- Boat trips down the Amazon, night walks with guides coaxing the Tarantulas out, giant river otters at Tres Chimbadas Lake, sights and sounds of Macaws at Colpa Chuncho.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Klaus and Leo were very thoughtful and amazing. Other than accompanying me on my day and night walks Leo set up a scope just for my use, took some phone shots and videos with my phone, even made me a coffee, at Colpa Chuncho. At Tres Chimbadas Lake I was supposed to be in a small rowing boat but Klaus hired a much bigger boat (30+ seater I think) knowing I had a lot of camera equipment- there was just me, him and the boat owner. Due to that I saw the giant river otters which the bigger groups hadn't seen the previous day.
Advice for Potential Travellers
It was very humid so dress appropriately. The lodges were very comfortable. Several power points were available outside the restaurant, as well as tea, coffee and bananas at all times. WiFi can be picked up at various points around the lodges. You can either mix with others or have your own space.
Amazing Amazon!
I was a little undecided about booking this extension, I’m so glad I did. The trip was very well organised, and the excitement starts with the very first boat journey to your Lodge. Lots of new experiences and a sensory sensation!!
Most Inspirational Moment
Travelling on the river in the dark, watching dawn break and hearing the jungle come alive. Night walk through the forest. The sheer enormity of the different sights, sounds, humidity and smell of the jungle.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Moises was an excellent and very knowledgeable local guide. He saw and heard things way before we did, and made sure we kept safe whilst photographing some potentially dangerous animals and plants.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Just do it. Completely different to other parts of the world, and changing rapidly. You may not get the chance again, and the memories will stay with you forever.
