Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not pay extra for a single supplement room, take a chance on sharing and being given a better room.

We are sorry that Morag was left disappointed by some of the single rooms she was allocated. The trip manager has recently visited our local operator and single rooms have been a subject of discussion; we are confident that the result of this will be a more positive experience for our clients going forward. We were surprised to learn that Morag was underwhelmed by her tour leader as her leader has previously won our Exodus Leader Award and has not received feedback of this nature in the past. We understand that her tour leader was rather unwell after Morag’s trip and we sincerely regret that this impacted upon her group’s experience.

Tropical South

A great way to discover the contrasts of Southern India, large cities, countryside, beach, historical sights and the wonderful backwaters .This is a busy and quite active holiday with some optional trips if you want a few hours just to chill out .I was interested to see the contrast between the Northern and Southern areas of India and they are indeed very different.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the beautiful tea plantations in Munnar and the day walk we had there with Chandra our Tour Leader and 2 other guides. It was a very peaceful place with misty mornings and lovely vistas. Also the stay on our houseboat travelling along the backwaters from Allepey. We saw interesting sights along the waterside and many birds , It was a very peaceful journey , good food from our chef on board.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Chandra was enthusiastic and looked after us very well, nothing was too much trouble, he was knowledgeable and organised and every day he answered our questions with humour. He was patient with us and sorted every little problem .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for long waits in restaurants , nothing is done quickly and the.sorting out of paying bills at the end of a meal can be a nightmare, The drinking of alcohol is haphazard as some places sell it and others don't but there are ways and means and your tour leader will have a plan up his sleeve!! Don't expect to see any elephants!! .

Ethiopia in Depth

A fascinating and beautiful country which I first visited 2 years ago and was keen to revisit. I was not disappointed although we were mostly travelling the same route as on my previous visit. Our Tour Leader, Gebre, was excellent; knowledgeable with good people skills and a sense of humour.

I think revisiting the first painted church on Lake Tana.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be tolerant about waiting for service in cafes and restaurants and of the dust; be prepared to have your preconceptions challenged; Ethiopia is such a rewarding country and with luck, you will leave with some different perspectives and some wonderful memories.

Great trip

Explored namibia with great guides, dunes, sea shore, fabulous wildlife. A wonderful country of varied scenery, good accomodation, wonderful meals all at a reasonable price.

Kilimanjaro Climb Lemosho Route

Dobiacco February

South Tyrol and the Dolomites are a must see, Mahler was here and so was the 1914-18 war.
Hotel excellent and Guides struck just the right tone.
The number of guests returning is testament to the quality of the Exodus experience here.
Go see it before it is spoiled by mass tourism.

Sorry guys it was the scenery - ice crystal rainbows in cloud over a mountain were a natural wonder.

A holiday overflowing with amazing memories

It was with a little trepidation that I set off with my wife to Ho Chi Minh City to begin a two week cycling holiday in Vietnam. Fears were quickly dispelled as we met Chi, our guide, and our fellow cyclists. From Day 1 it was fairly obvious our group was going to get on and so it proved. A age range from 23 to 68 didn’t create any issues, we were all reasonably fit and shared an outgoing sense of fun and adventure. There were even a few tears as we all parted company in Hanoi having enjoyed an adventure together which will live long in our memories.

Most Inspirational Moment

I think pushing myself up the Hai Van Pass, a climb of over 500 metres, and hearing the cheers of our group as each of us reached the top of the pass. Then plunging at ridiculous speeds down the mountain towards Hue.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was quite simply the best group leader we could have hoped for. He was protective when he needed to be, informative at all times, answered all our questions with knowledge and patience. Anyone lucky enough to get Chi as a guide will be rewarded with an inspirational leaded, an extremely well organised individual and a wonderfully warm human being.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Whilst months of pre holiday heavy duty training will not be necessary, the better your body is prepared so the more enjoyment you will get from your holiday. Don't try to be the centre of attention, let the group dynamics sort themselves out. If our group was typical everyone will get along fine. Whilst the weather for us in January and February was perfect we did have a wet day with a head wind where a light cycling jacket would have been handy. If chaotic traffic unnerves you, pack a few sedatives or a blindfold!

Exceeded all expectations

Surreal Scenery … Snow encrusted trees, frozen waterfalls, wide vistas over lakes
Amazing Activities … Dog sledding between frozen statues made by trees, Riding a Snow mobile cross country at speed on deep snow, Vertical ice climbing, Building a quinzee on a frozen lake, Hiking at night and being photographed with the northern lights in the background
Excellent Equipment …. Every type of kit appropriate to each activity provided, you will get used to wearing lots and lots of layers
Stimulating Staff … Henri and his team inspire and guide you through any concerns
Fantastic Food … Lots of soups and stews, exactly what you need, delicious!

Most Inspirational Moment

The scenery brings out rare emotions ... Whilst standing alone in a clearing in the pine and birch forest on a bridge over an almost completely snow covered stream watching the water flow over ice crystals, the water making the only noise audible, the mind clears and emotions flow. By way of contrast the biggest impediment to getting up once you fell into the snow was ... uncontrollable laughter!

Henri was fantastic ... nothing was too much trouble, instructions and guidance was clear, with a very wry sense of humour. All the staff were great especially the cooks who produced such tasty food.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A buff or neck warmer will be very useful There is no tea/coffee facility in the room so bring you own if you like a cuppa before donning several layers to start the day.

Classic Kenya Safari

This was the first time I’d used Exodus and also my first time visiting Kenya and let me tell you, it was brilliant. I had an amazing time. I loved the week away from start to finish. The trip was well organised and having met such helpful, polite people along the way it ticked all my boxes. I met a lovely group of people who were also single travellers so that helped.
The Food was excellent and I enjoyed trying new things. The rooms at both hotels were always clean and well maintained. You could not fault the staff. Every ask was not a problem.
There is a bit of traveling and on some bad roads but apart from that, this is a trip I would return on again and again. Thank you Exodus and everyone I met!!

Most Inspirational Moment

To be honest the trip as a whole was my inspiration. Memories I will not forget in a while. The views, the people, the animals even. Completely amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter and Davies were our tour guides and they were fantastic. They had phenomenal knowledge of Kenya and off all the animals we saw. They were so ahead of the game and new where to pin points various animals.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would suggest only going out taking Kenya Schillings rather than Dollars. We dealt a lot in Shillings with some use of Dollars along the way. Also you will need to buy rather a lot of bottled water so having the extra schillings helps.

Everest Base Camp January 2015

A truly fantastic trip to a beautiful part of the world. The extreme cold at night was manageable with a good sleeping bag supplemented by blankets/duvets provided by the teahouses and was compensated for by the fact that the trail was quiet, though by no means empty. Daytime temperatures were fine and at all but the highest altitudes we were normally walking in a baselayer and fleece by mid-morning. It was, however, very cold once the sun went down, although the teahouses did have stoves in their common rooms. In some, there was no running water and the squat toilet had to be flushed by bailing with a jug out of a barrel, having first broken the ice! But we soon got used to this and the benefits of clear days, a quite trail and stunning views more than made up for any hardship.

Most Inspirational Moment

The final trek to base camp. We met nobody between Gorak Shep and base camp, had base camp to ourselves for the half hour we spent there, saw an avalanche across the valley on the way and could therefore appreciate the dangers faced by those who live and work in this part of the world. It was also very moving to make the steep climb up to Chukpo Lari and then reach the plateau where there are so many memorials to climbers who lost their lives on the mountain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lhakpa was the perfect leader. His advice was always spot on and he was able to ensure that we knew the difficulties we were likely to face but at the same time gave us the confidence to face them. The pace at which he lead enabled us to acclimatise and none of us had any appreciable difficulty in coping with the altitude.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Lhakpa recommended that we buy Yaktrax before we set off. None of us had them but we all followed his advice and they were invaluable for a winter trek. We only used them two or three times and then for only half an hour or so on each occasion but they made it so much easier to walk over the icy stretches in question. Next time also, I will hire a sleeping bag in Kathmandu for use on the trek, so as to leave space in the kitbag for plenty of shopping, because good quality walking equipment can be purchased for a fraction of the price we would be charged in the UK.
