Highlights of Madagascar

There were only six of us on the trip so this was a real bonus. It meant that we had lots of room in the minibus and when being guided around we could spend a long time viewing the wildlife. Saw more than was mentioned in the trip notes and spent longer in the national parks as being a small group we all agreed on what we wanted.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The holiday was really well organised by our tour leader Armel. He even worked on days when he really did not have to as when we had free time he still guided us around the towns. He was enthusiastic about finding lemurs and making sure we could all get a good view of them. Great tour leader enthusiasic and knowledgeable about the country and wildlife. He spoke excellent English and always wanted to make our holiday as enjoyable as possible.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There is a lot of driving but the days are broken up with visits to national parks, so not as onerous as it sounds in the notes. However the last few days from leaving the beach to arriving home is very tiring and for a couple of days there was not much to see in Tulear and Antananarivo

Fantastic but hot.

My husband and I went on this trip in August. It was even hotter than we expected (and had been led to believe), despite this we had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend the trip. We covered much of Cuba and had a chance to spend time in some lovely little towns and cycle through great scenery. Havana was amazing. It was good to cycle as part of a group and everyone was very sociable and mixed well. The accommodation was mostly good with air con in every instance. (essential). Salsa dancing in the square in Trinidad and at the Buena Vista Social club was fun.

The end of the last day - a very hot long cycle with a cold Cubra Libre waiting for us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yazell was fanstastic: organised, knowledgeable, a good communicator and fun. (some pretty nifty Salsa moves as well)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't go in August if you can avoid it. (still glad I went though) Take your own saddle, definately need water bottle and a very small bag to fit onto frame is great. We added 4 days on at the end and visited Cayo Levisa and had a final night in Havana. I was very pleased to have some extra time and it was great to have some days doing very little after a fairly busy schedule. Cayo Levisa was very beautiful.

Getting to know the Baltics

Really nice mix of different experiences, ably led by our superb tour leader Jolita.

Most Inspirational Moment

Whilst the cities were fascinating, with some beautiful architecture, I think my favourite aspect was walking the peat bog.

The group leader was friendly and informative and very patient with our questions!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trip notes suggested it rarely rains in summer - the latter half of August was however quite wet so go prepared with waterproofs!

Dolomites Lake Garfa

A fantastic trip full of changing scenery, reasonable daily distances to cover cycling with a few challenges

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent, very knowledgeable of the history of the area and passionate about his country and willing to share this with everybody at the same time trying to accommodate each persons needs and expectations of the ride

Advice for Potential Travellers

A reasonable amount of training ( though not excessive) on hills will make ride more enjoyable. Distances are okay for peoples who do regular cycling.

Awesome adventure

This is a wonderful trip giving a real feel for Cuba. The cycling itinerary is very well planned so you are physiologically ready for each day. The hotels were really good, especially the colonial style ones and the food, whilst not very varied was good quality.

Most Inspirational Moment

Really hard to decide as so many moments were great, but day 9, the hard cycling day was probably my personal highlight for a sense of achievement.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Laz, ably supported by driver Osso really made the trip. His English was impeccable, he was intelligent and articulate and incredibly knowledgeable about Cuba and Cuban history. He was passionate about his country in fact. He was able to see when to joke and when to be serious and he judged out group perfectly. In addition to this he was a brilliant cycling leader telling you about the stages and allowing everyone to go at their own pace.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you take you own pedals be aware you do end up walking quite a bit around and about in your cycling shoes so recessed cleats are more comfortable! Or make sure you keep your flip flops handy.

Cycling Vietnam

Holiday of a lifetime! A well used phrase, but our cycling holiday in Vietnam was. We have canoed major rivers in Germany, France and the UK; walked in the Alps, Pyrenees, atlas mountains and throughout the UK, but nothing prepared us for what we did and saw in Vietnam. The depth and knowledge of our guide for the cycling and the history of Vietnam, the sight seeing, the villages and the cities, we couldn’t believe how much we did in our two weeks. All our friends are so jealous when we show them the photos and tell them about it.

Most Inspirational Moment

To see all the happy children and smiling faces despite, to our European way of thinking, they had very little. Every child was a photograph worth taking.

Brilliant, never short of ideas and support, knew all our names (eighteen of us) very quickly. I would go again with this man.

Do the holiday before Western money spoils some of the best bits.

Fantastic hiking

This was an excellent Exodus trip. Each hike was beautiful and challenging. It was interesting to hike two different mountain ranges; though unique, they both had stunning scenery and good trails. The Bulgarian food was good, and Vladimir our leader was superb. If you’re reasonably fit and love to hike, you can’t go wrong with this choice. This was our 4th Exodus trip and we had a wonderful time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Wednesday was the toughest day, 22km with 1400m elevation gain. It was long and steady - totally manageable. Getting to the high point of the ridge that day after almost 4 hours of ascent was very rewarding. And it was awesomely beautiful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vladimir was the best leader we've ever had. He was fun, knowledgeable, caring and organized. He managed the group so well, keeping the perfect pace for everyone.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We had participants from the ages of mid-20s to mid-60s. Everyone was fit and all were fine with the challenge. The trip was great because no one was falling behind. Be ready for a challenging week.

Marvellous Madagascar!

A really varied trip with the opportunity to see several different areas of Madagascar; the gorgeous beaches, some beautiful national parks and delightful lemurs and chameleons!

Most Inspirational Moment

The range of lemur species that we were privileged to see interacting in the wild and swinging in the trees! I was surprised how close they came to us, allowing for some fantastic photo opportunities!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was a native Madagascan so was able to give us a real insight into his country. He was also very eager to ensure that everyone had a positive experience and nothing was ever too much trouble... Having received the groups details before the trip began he'd even arranged some birthday surprises (a band and a cake) for one of the group members.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was colder than I expected in the north, particularly at night - pack plenty of warm clothes for this part of the trip. And be prepared for crowds/chaos when you arrive - no one seems to queue for their entry visa!

Kilimanjaro - Lemosho Route

12 out of 12 made it – in various states of disrepair – to the roof of Africa and down again. A fine effort, aided and abetted by excellent guides and following the often quoted 5 golden rules for Kilimanjaro. It’s a shame i can only recall 4 of them but something like eat well, drink lots of fluid, go slowly, and have a positive mental attitude. I’d emphasise the latter which requires a lot of staying calm when you feel sick, trusting yourself, and finding the wherewithal to plod slowly all night up a freezing mountain when your subconscious self is telling you to pack it in and do something more sensible but less inspirational

Most Inspirational Moment

I'd love to say it was triumphing heroically on the summit of the continent, but i had to retreat at top speed in a fit of altitude sickness and vomiting, which looking back on things seems rather more exciting than it was at the time ! What i really loved was getting up slowly each morning from a nippy tent, and seeing the clouds far below us for day after day - truly fantastic

Abraham was a colossus - a big guy, with a big personality, and a capable leader ready with advice for the mountain, an extra supply of diamox, and many a loony tune. And I'd like to apologise to Riccardo, because I kept wanting to call him Rodrigo, which led to other members of the gang wanting to call him Rodriguez.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was a really top trip, but we did have problems at the airport on the way back. Kili airport is small and chaotic - you absolutely must turn up for your flight as far in advance as possible

High Inca Trail

As a group of friends who have years of experience of long distance walks and challenges we chose Exodus to guide us on the High Inca Trail. I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and rate it on a par with the incredible experience of climbing Kilimanjaro. The trek was brilliantly organised by our Exodus team leader who met us at the airport, escorted us to our hotel and then showed us Cusco by night. Her knowledge and experience were excellent providing us a marvelous insight into the Inca culture and the Spanish effect on it. The High Inca trek was a testing walk but for a reasonbly fit person (I am 60 years young), it was quiet attainable.
An acclimatisation walk put us in the mood to experience the ever changing and beautiful countryside and views, we visited Inca ruins of all shapes and sizes. We saw Condors soaring gracefully through blue skys on the trek and nothing can prepare you for what you feel as you walk through the sun gate. We subsequently visited a host of villages and Inca ruins, we ate at the home of a very welcoming local family on one occasion and also had time to explore on our own.

Most Inspirational Moment

The trek was marvelous with varied terrain and taking on the affects of altitude. The history of this beautiful country is mesmerizing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was superb. She thoroughly briefed us on what to expect, guided us through every stage keeping us safe at all times. Her knowledge of Peru and the Inca people was massive. She inspired the horsemen, and porters who obviously had great respect for her. She was immediately our friend and leader fulfilling all her promises of a trip of a life time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Good boots, warm clothing for the very cold nights, lots of insect repellent and sun block and a sense of fun and discovery.
