1. Your Government's Advice

First and foremost, you must follow any restrictions on non-essential travel imposed by your home government.

UK general COVID restrictions summary

If you are permitted to travel, you should ensure you understand any risks of travel to your destination by reading the travel advice from your home government, and make your own choice to travel or not.

FCDO Travel Advice

Exodus will normally only operate to a country where there are no UK FCDO travel advice warnings (i.e. no advice against non-essential travel).

The UK government has also provided this guidance for international travel including the latest Coronavirus Restrictions.

2. Destination Entry Requirements

Check the entry requirements for your destination of choice from your country of departure. For example, you may require proof of vaccine or a negative COVID test. Your nationality may also be taken into account when entering a country so ensure you confirm what arrival forms need to complete before travel, if any. Exodus will not normally operate to a country that requires UK customers to quarantine on arrival.

For a quick and easy guide to the latest travel advice by departure and destination country, as well as by nationality, we recommend visiting the CIBT website.

For open destinations we have provided a more detailed guidance, please see links below.

3. COVID-Clear Groups

For extra peace of mind, Exodus requires all those travelling on group holidays to have had a vaccine or negative COVID test – known as ‘COVID-Clear’ status. Please ensure that you understand this policy and can comply with it before you travel with us. All customers will need to have one of the following in place prior to travel:

1. Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the last dose having been administered no less than two weeks prior to travel.  The total number of doses must have been given, as required by the vaccine manufacturer (in most cases this is two doses).

  • The NHS app (if you have signed up and are verified) now shows your vaccination status under ‘Your COVID-19 status’ and is displayed as a QR code, or available as a pdf.
  • Vaccination cards which show your name and date of vaccine are sufficient for our internal verification
  • In Scotland, vaccination cards are not being provided, so a letter confirming the appointment is acceptable.

2.  A negative PCR test taken within 72 hours of travel

  • The certificate provided by your private testing provider.

3. Proof of recent recovery from COVID

  • A positive test result, followed by a negative test result no more than 180 days before the date of travel.
  • Or a GP letter or hospital discharge summary showing the above.

If you are travelling: to a country where one of these is an entry requirement, you do not need to provide Exodus with proof of your COVID-Clear status prior to travel; you can expect this to be checked by your airline and by immigration officials when you arrive in the destination country.

If you are travelling: within the UK, within your home country (outside the UK), or there are no entry requirements of this nature for the destination country, we will ask you to email a copy or photo of your document to [email protected] at least 2 weeks before departure. If you plan to take a PCR test 3 days before travel, you should let us know along with the date of the test, so we can add that to our records.

4. Returning Home

Updated 8 July 2021

Ensure you understand and can comply with your home government requirements for return travel at the end of your trip. For example, you may require a negative test taken before departure, or there could be quarantine requirements for travellers from certain countries.

UK government Traffic Light system for entering the UK.

  • Currently, arrivals into the UK from all destinations require a test before travel (pre-departure test) and a PCR test on or before day 2 after your arrival.
  • While pre-departure (for return travel) testing is a general requirement, we will amend itineraries to ensure group members can access testing facilities (test at customer’s cost) in the final days of the trip.
  • Everybody who arrives in the UK will need to complete Passenger Locator Form within 48 hours prior their arrival. The form is completed online (found here).
  • If, through no fault of your own, your test result is delayed, Exodus will cover your accommodation costs until you are able to travel, and rearrange flights for Flight Inclusive bookers. Exodus will pay reasonable flight change fees for Land Only bookers.
  • Exodus will normally expect to operate to Green List destinations.
  • Exodus will expect to operate to Amber List destinations as long as there are no FCDO travel advice warnings against travel to that country, and the destination country does not have entry requirements in place that would significantly impact the tour itinerary.
  • It is important to be aware that a country’s status on the Traffic Light system will not necessarily align with FCDO travel advice.
  • For general testing advice for UK travellers, including recommended testing providers, please see our advice on testing below.

Advice on accessing COVID testing for travel

Providing a negative COVID test will be a common requirement for entering a country for some time. Accessing the appropriate private test for travel is now easy in many countries. If, from the above information it is clear a test if required, we ask you to choose your test provider in good time. We have put together a handy guide to testing, to give you all the information you need in one place. We update this document regularly so please do check back for the latest information before you depart for your adventure.

Getting tests in the UK

The UK government has a long list of approved test providers which you can view here.

To help you choose, we are recommending 4 large and well-known providers whose service we believe will meet your needs. See our handy guide to testing for more information.
