- Where to Travel in March
March is an optimal time to visit the Middle East before the summer heat sets in. While further east, the hot and sunny weather in Vietnam makes it one of the best places to travel in March.
GALAPAGOS
See the islands at their most colourful
Wildlife is the star year-round in the Galapagos, but keen snorkellers enjoy pleasant sea temperatures of 25C this month, which also attracts hammerhead sharks and manta rays. Alongside blue-footed boobies and sea lions, it’s also a great time to see frigatebirds. March is also the beginning of mating season, so you may see males inflate their red throat pouches to attract females.
VIETNAM
Enjoy comfortable weather for exploring
There’s never a bad time to visit Vietnam, but March is generally considered one of the best months for exploration. The south is hot and dry, while the north is cooler, which makes it ideal for hiking and sightseeing. In Ha Long Bay, the atmospheric mists can disperse in the morning, providing clear views of those iconic limestone peaks.
BHUTAN
Celebrate the Paro Festival
Bhutan is extraordinary in March, as this is often when Paro Festival begins. Bringing ancient culture to life through rituals and dances, it’s an explosion of colour with masked performances, sacred prayer meetings, and folk music. March is also an optimal time for trekking: expect clear skies and blooming rhododendrons on the legendary Druk Path Trek.
MOROCCO
Perfect for visiting bazaars
Springtime in Morocco is pleasant and sunny – with daily highs of 20C. Mild temperatures and fewer crowds make it ideal for visiting the souks and bazaars of Marrakech and Fez or for wandering the fortified ksar of Ait Benhaddou and Roman ruins of Volubilis. It’s also a great time to head into the Sahara, as the heat is yet to reach its summer intensity.
EGYPT
Soak up the sun on the Nile
If you want to avoid the scorching summer in Egypt, March is perfect. In Cairo, you’ll experience temperatures of 18C to 24C, while the Nile Valley is generally a little hotter – great conditions for exploring the Valley of the Kings and Luxor Temples. So why not hop onto a traditional felucca sailing boat or tuck into local delights on a food tour of Cairo?
