Ideal compact trip for Machu Picchu

This trip is very well designed as a way to walk to the Sun Gate, and achieve the iconic views of Machu Picchu, without having to undergo the demanding challenge of the full Inca Trail. I had booked to do the Classic Inca Trail four years ago, but first Covid then a heart attack meant that idea was not achievable. The walk up to the Sun Gate should not be underestimated, but is eminently ‘doable’ for anyone of reasonable fitness. The one day trek on the Inca Trail, and the tour round the site of Machu Picchu, were marvellous, unforgettable experiences.
The days spent in Cusco offer a rich cultural experience, and Peruvian cuisine is simply wonderful, high quality at astounding value.

Most Inspirational Moment

Undoubtedly, reaching the Sun Gate, and looking down on Machu Picchu for the first time. One of the truly great moments of a lifetime

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Raul, did a superb job. He made sure everything was easy for us, and that everything ran exactly on time. He was always prepared to go above and beyond to make sure it all ran smoothly. His knowledge of, and enthusiasm for, the Andean culture added greatly to our enjoyment of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip offers the absolute essentials of Cusco and Machu Picchu in way that is very achievable if you feel that the full Inca Trail is beyond your capacity. Going a day early to help with the altitude acclimatisation was a big help. Whilst the flights are long and tedious, they are a small price to pay for the rich rewards of Peru, which is a magical country. I loved every moment of my time in Peru, and cannot recommend it highly enough. Go!

Sacred Valley and one day inca trail trek

Very informative. Good transport connections and accommodation. Clear instructions on travelling requirements regarding temporary holdalls etc.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the hills above Matchu Pitchu.

An absolutely fantastic trip with challenges, sites and wonderful hospitality

Most Inspirational Moment

The guides and the porters who made the trip possible

Thoughts on Group Leader

Wonderful! He was knowledgeable, calm and led the group perfectly

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be fit! The walking is tough and even harder when you take altitude into the mix
