TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

Sri Lanka is surely underrated as a tourist destination. The whole Sri Lankan experience was a lot better than any other destination I have been to (and I have been travelling regularly for many many years). The food, people, the setting, every changing landscapes, stunning beaches and the perfect climate all makes it worth the journey. For a family it an ideal destination – where you and your kids will experience a whole new world together. It is a very child friendly place.

Most Inspirational Moment

Attempting to climbing the Sigriya rock with my son and daughter. It was tough for them and I kept on pushing them to the ultimate goal. My daughter only made it to 300ft and then gave up (vertigo!) and my son made it to the top with the help of our local leader Rouwan and the rest of the family group. Thanks guys if you are reading this. Sri Lankans....everyone was fantastic and had a smiles on their faces wherever we went. Hello, Hello... calls are still resonating in my ears.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ruwan was simply amazing. He worked very hard to make sure all of us are having fun. Everything worked like a Swiss clock work. He made sure that we make most of our time in Sri Lanka and fitted in many experiences that money cannot buy. He obviously was very passionate about his job and wanted to the best he can...which he did. Ruwan, if you are reading this, then get in touch!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try and spend your money in the smaller villages and towns. We were encouraged to do that and I can see why. Have your camera on standby as there is more wildlife to see in Sri Lanka than you can imagine.

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

The holiday was beyond amazing!  Sri Lanka is diverse, beautiful and with people who are so happy to show you their country of which they are very proud.

Most Inspirational Moment

So much to be inspired by; bathing elephants, making new friends, eating home cooked curries by the fire, learning new words and songs through daily teachings from our guide and seeing traditional stilt fisherman trying to make a living in all weathers.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujee went above and beyond the call of duty - he was amazing, so organised, caring and his ultimate objective each day was to ensure that we all had a great time - nothing was too much for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book now!  Sri Lanka is a country trying so hard to recover from so many years of adversity - the people are a joy and the country is very rich in its variation in scenary and climate with so many hidden joys to discover.

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday with our 13 year son. Sri Lanka was far better than I expected, the country was beautiful, the locals were always smiling and very friendly. This is an excellent holiday for both the children and adults, the kids get plenty of pool time.

Most Inspirational Moment

As most people have said to pick one would be difficult.  I loved the drive to the tea plantation, the Cave Temple at Dambulla and Polonnaruwa. But could easily have chosen the Temple of the Tooth at Kandy, or the bike and elephant ride or the historic port of Galle.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sujee was fantastic and gave 110% everyday. We had a group of 18, 9 children and 9 adults. As soon as we had arrived Sujee was making every effort for us to enjoy our holiday. He bought footballs for the children to play with in the pool so that by day two the children all knew each other. Where ever we went he had pre arranged for us to sit at the table with the best view, if there was a problem he sorted it immediately and where ever we went he was able to inform us about the places we visited. If you lucky he will sing for you on the coach!!!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go to Sri Lanka before it becomes too busy and spoilt. This holiday gives you a great feel of Sri Lanka. Yes there is curry for breakfast if you want it, but also plenty of cereals, omlettes and fruit, my son never went hungry. Sri Lanka is relatively cheap so once you are there it will not cost you the earth to have a good time.  Try the Margaritas in the colonial hotel in Little England fantastic.

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

We have just come back from the best holiday we have ever had. Travelling with our two boys aged 8 and 5 with Exodus has been an amazing experience. We feel this is largely due to our tour leader Suresh Bandara. His passion for his country and job made this trip a lifetime experience. This is the first time we have moved away fom a standard beach hotel holiday with two young children and we are so happy we took this risk. Our boys loved every moment of the trip and managed to participate in all the activities/ excursions booked. Would thoroughly recommend this trip. Ask for Suresh by name when you book! A beautiful country with lovely people and food. Brimming full of history and culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

So many, feeding baby elephants, the view from Ella gap, the climb to the top of Lion rock in Sigria, the leopard safari, the turtle hatchery. The humbling experience of visiting a tsunami house. A truly beautiful country.

Thoughts on Group Leader

If you could describe a perfect group leader he would be it! From the very start when he met us at the airport following our flight into Srl Lanka he did his utmost to make us feel comfortable and welcome from the five year old all the way through to the mums and dads. He was charming, caring and a great embassador for both the company and his country. Always a wealth of information about the country and able to find an answer for any of our enquires (he even managed to find out what brand of Arrack they sold in duty free for us!). He was consistent in his approach to his task, making all the members of the group feel both safe and comfortable throughout what was a busy but ultimately rewarding schedule. Efficient, effective and reliable - a definite 10 out of 10. My only concern is that, given how good he was, will any future tour leaders be able to match up on the other experiences Exodus has to offer!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Mosquito repellant with 50% DEET. No bites!

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

Something for everyone! This is a great holiday if you want to explore as much of the island as possible. I felt like I got a really good feel for Sri Lanka, as we travelled to so many parts, from the busy cities, to the cool highlands and the beautiful relaxing beaches. There is a really good balance of visits to historic sites and time to explore the local wildlife. The majority of the hotels were excellent with fantastic choice of food, although the buffets were always great. Personally I would have liked to have spent a little longer at each place, but the timing was spot on for children, long enough to enjoy, short enough to not get bored

Most Inspirational Moment

This bit took me ages to write as I kept remembering other highlights! so I'll just have to summarise! Most of the best parts are the experiences with wildlife. the elephants, many many monkeys, turtle hatchery(my daughters favourite ) and the leopard at Yala. The beaches were great. all the staff at hotels and sites were super friendly and welcoming. The festival at Candy was great experience. Stopping along the way to sample the local fruits from the many stalls along the roadsides

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was very knowledgable and did his utmost to please everyone in our quite large group. His main focus was the childlren which meant they were happy, and he changed the itinery to mean our needs well.

Advice for Potential Travellers

At hotels go for the buffet meals (around £10) for adults and hungry teenagers, if you have younger chidlren it is cheaper to go "a La Carte" which just means the normal menu. The cost will be halved, but the time taken to prepare will be double, so order these well before you start. I found there was just enough time to order the my daughters meals, for me to have a relaxing beer then go and eat my buffet, that way we all ate together. Be prepared for some long drives, as you really see a lot of the island. You do get approached by locals trying to sell you things a lot, so you need to not let this bother you. be wary of people giving you "gifts" then asking for moneyThe only other advice is to book it now!

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

A fantastic introduction to a wonderful country.  Our host, Sujee, couldn’t do enough for us.  My daughter and I have returned home recounting so many wonderful experiences to our family and friends.

Most Inspirational Moment

In a trip filled with so many experiences, it seems churlish to pick just one.  So, I'll pick three and even that's difficult: cycling through the villages in the jungle meeting locals, visiting the family who live in the Exodus built house and sunset at Sigiriya rock.My daughter's favourite three were: visiting the turtle hatchery, going elephant riding and snorkelling in the Indian Ocean.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader was brilliant.  He was very well informed and worked tirelessly to make sure our trip was a success.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If the elephant orphange trip is still just an option when you do this trip, take it.

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

An excellent holiday with an amazing variety of activities. Our guide Sampath was brilliant, informative and entertaining. Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and the Exodus trip certainly makes the most of all the best bits.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots of moments that could compete for this, to name just a few  - lunch next to the river where the elephants came to bathe, trying durian and other exotic fruits from the roadside markets, climbing Sigiriya and cycling round the local villages, playing traditional games, relaxing on the south coast, elephant rides (realised rather too late that elephants don't need bananas peeled for them).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sampath was excellent - he looked after all of us, entertained us and gave us a real feel of life in Sri Lanka. Was also brilliant at effortlessly organising us all without us feeling over-organised. Never too busy to answer questions and manage all the behind the scenes running of the trip. It was also reassuring to learn from Sampath how much Exodus have given back to country particularly following the aftermath of the Tsunami.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We arrived a day early and left a day late than the Exodus trip dates - an excellent decision as those booked on the Exodus flight didn't arrive at the first destination until the evening so essentially missed this part of the trip - a lovely beachside hotel. The Exodus flight also left very early on the last day leaving no time to explore Colombo. Sampath gave us ideas of what to do in Colombo for the day and we had a brilliant time.Sampath was very open to suggestions from us re things we would like to see and do and accommodated as many as he could eg sampling roadside food, organising tuk tuk ride, tasting toddy etc.

TROPICAL ISLAND WANDERER - FAMILY HOLIDAY

Wonderful trip – an introduction to more exotic shores for our 14 year old daughter which was a great success and encouraged us to book another trip in 2012 with Exodus.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking out from the top of Sigiraya RockWarm sea swimming!curried green porridge for breakfast - it tastes very good

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Sanpath combined a good mix of organisational skill with Sri Lankan hospitality and conviviality. A hit with adults and children alike.
