A fantastic journey through Central Asia bursting with History and Culture

This is an incredible trip visiting 3 Stans, and all very different from each other. The scenery and hiking in Kyrgyzstan was spectacular and the Golden Eagle experience was a real highlight. Uzbekistan was such a contrast to the first 2 countries and some of the sights were breathtakingly beautiful.
All of the countries were fascinating in their own way and our guides Vitaliy and Dilshod were excellent! Both very knowledgeable and gave us great insights and the history of each place we visited.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking the streets of the old city in Khiva was like stepping back in time 1000 years. It has been fantastically restored so that you are practically walking through history in the modern day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vitaliy and Dilshod were excellent from start to finish. Their attention to detail, information and planning meant that we always knew what was happening and when. Delivering so much information and history cannot be easy but they managed to strike a great balance between detail and content that we were all kept interested every day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack for all weather as we experienced from 7'C to 42'C throughout the trip, and keep some room for shopping as even the lesser shopping travellers still ended up taking home some new purchases. They don't call it the Silk Road for nothing :)

Amazing Galapagos adventure trip

This trip surpassed expectations, travelled early May . Covers 4 islands ( with stays ) plus another as a day visit . Lots of snorkeling and one long hike ( volcano Sierra Negra ) , others are short duration of couple hours . Lots of marine wildlife and land wildlife. Sea lions in abundance , very playful and curious. Swam with penguins, sea lions , hammerhead sharks, turtles, copious amounts of fish , many types of birds seen ( obviously including blue footed boobies) , lots of marine iguanas .

Most Inspirational Moment

Pure fluke that our group were in water ( Kicker Rock ) when a whale shark came through. Fantastic moment , extremely rare for that area .

Thoughts on Group Leader

Isabela Buchelli was outstanding . Highly organised, diplomatic, humorous and sociable , full of information she willingly shared and keen eyes to spot wildlife, very safety conscious .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Sun very fierce so make sure you apply lotion especially when snorkeling ( or cover up with rash/sun wear ) . Try to have small dollar bill notes to hand as tipping is "expected" by everyone ( boat crews especially ). Some restaurants and bigger shops take cards but generally cash is king in Galapagos, especially smaller souvenir shops ( for t-shirts, caps etc )

MAGICAL MYSTICAL MADEIRA!

This was a great introduction to marvelous Madeira, the Hawaii of the Atlantic. The five walks covered the stunning variety of Madeira’s landscapes; the spectacular coastal scenery of Pont Sao Lorenco and the North Coastal Path, the mystical Fanal Forest, an intimate Levada, and the incomparable Pico to Pico (recently reopened after a 2year closure). All but the Levada walk were MUST DOs. There are more iconic Levada walks (the 25 fountains or PR17), but they have become incredibly crowded due to the popularity of Madeira, and don’t have the access controls of the other trails. The beauty of the Exodus guided trip was knowing that all permits and transport needs were taken care of, and we were properly prepared for each day’s adventure! Accommodations were comfortable, and in the case of Aqua Bay Natura in Porto Moniz – SUPERB! We all had ocean view rooms with a balcony overlooking the lava pools. Access to the lava pools was free and the hotel provides robes and towels! The free day in Funchal was perfect for taking the cable car to Monte Palace and descending on the famous toboggans. Madeira is a walker’s paradise, and Exodus has curated an excellent itinerary allowing you to enjoy it stress free.

Paulo was sturdy, dependable, and shared with us his deep affinity for the flora and fauna of his home island.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is moderate length (10-11km) with occasional ups and downs including numerous stairs. Bring waterproofs, especially for the Pico to Pico section. Swim wear for the lava pools.

Most Inspirational Moment

In no particular order. We loved the old hilltop villages as well as the cities set in lovely countryside. The wine tasting and chocolate experience were tasty 😋 The cookery lesson was great fun. The architecture of the churches.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gabriel, who was also our leader a couple of years ago in Puglia is an exceptional leader. Knowledgeable, supportive, organised and good company. This was his 1st Umbria trip but somehow he knew all the paths through the hills as well as the best coffee shops and gelateria. Gabriel is worth an extra star.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Rome and Assisi are tourist honeypot, so expect a crush. The walks are not too taxing, but give a good flavour of Umbria. Abbazzia Collemadio is very comfortable with helpful and friendly staff.

Great Trip with Excellent Leader

As with our other Exodus adventures, the trip was very well organised with a comprehensive itinerary. We did a loop of the island and saw most things you would want to see. There was good mix of temples and other ruins (Greek, Roman, etc.) and we got a good understanding of the complex history of the island (given that pretty much every empire, colonial power, etc. over the last 3000 years had bulldozed their way through the island). Our excellent leader Tiziano (more below) introduced us to the culture, food, etc. of Sicily. The itinerary was full-on, but there was time to slow down and explore. The local guides were very good. A particular shout out to Vanessa who showed us around Catania and Neapolis with a fun, honest, and critical eye.

Most Inspirational Moment

Roman Villa was amazing - so well preserved after so long. The walk in Zingaro Nature Reserve was beautiful.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tiziano was the best tour leader we have had (after about a dozen Exodus trips). His knowledge of, and passion for, Sicily (and Palermo!), was astounding. And he brought a sense of fun to the trip which enhanced the entire experience. He went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed ourselves and also understood the context of what we were seeing and experiencing. He put together an extensive list of Sicilian food for us to try. When one of the trip members had a fall and had to go to the hospital, he was right on it, ensuring that our experience was not affected while he took care of the individual. Tiziano is the only one to lead this trip, so you can be comfortable booking the trip knowing you will have an excellent trip and be well looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The one downside of the trip was the level of accommodation, which was quite variable. This may be partly a reflection of the lack of TLC in much of the infrastructure on Sicily, so you might need to manage your expectations. We enjoyed the trip to Mt. Etna, but wished we had taken the cable car rather than doing the walk. The walk was extremely steep and slippery on volcanic scree. If you do the walk, take poles. If you take the cable car, bring extra layers and a very warm hat. We went in early - mid-May, so while it wasn't cold, it also was not super warm most of the time, so bring layers.

Brief introduction to Moroccan Atlas

This is a whirlwind introduction to the Atlas Mountain at an affordable price. Thoroughly enjoyed my return to Morocco after 25 years away. It has changed a lot and mostly for the better. This tour takes you through the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, such beautiful scenery but there’s not enough walking in the mountains. I would have liked more time off the bus generally.

Sunrise in the Sahara and the views from Aït Benhaddou or sunrise in the Sahara The food we had prepared for us at peoples home was also so delicious.

Yusuf was very good and also ensured we got plenty of photo opportunities.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take an extra day or two at the end and stay in a riad in the medina.

Review of trip to Japan April 2026

Overall a tremendous trip. It is very demanding and requires considerable fitness. Mt Fugi was tremendous to see.
Such beautiful trees and gardens .. even the moss was lovely!

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing Mount Fugi was a stand out moment. We were so lucky to see it so clearly on both days!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Charles was a very good leader. He was very good at getting the group (ages 26 - 77 years) through all the vagaries of public travel. Having lived in Japan he was knowledgeable on Japanese customs, beliefs and ways. Advice for Exodus. I found the journey Kobe to Kanazawa very tiring, travelling on three trains and a bus. I wondered if this leg could be modified possibly using private transport on this day. I also wondered if it would be possible to meet more Japanese people.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel one or two days before the start of the trip so that you are not tired at the beginning of the adventure. Our best meal was one where 4 of us ordered something different and shared. Our time in Tokyo was short so planning and booking venues in advance is the key. Enjoy it all!

New trip with teething problems

This is a new trip and could do with some adjustments.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for late (3 pm and later) lunch breaks - the cycling is all done before lunch. There is a quite a lot of off-road cycling, way more than is suggested in the trip notes, over rough terrain. If you are not used to cycling off-road 'gravel roads' often means rough, uneven, lumpy, bumpy tracks. The pace of the cycling is very slow (which was not due to the group members, but set by the group leader) which makes the lunch stop even later than it need be. There is a lot of cycling on shared footpaths/cycle paths which is necessarily slow. The second hotel (in Pula) is a long way from the town and there is nowhere to eat other than the hotel. To go into Pula itself you need to get a bus. The trip is new for 2026 so will perhaps evolve.

Fabulous

It’s now two weeks since I returned from Portugal and I wish I was back walking the wild Algarve. The unspoiled coastline was spectacular with few tourists, just surfers riding the huge waves.
Also what was so noticeable was the fact that there were no litter bins but also no litter anywhere – the environment is truly respected.

Inês is/was unflappable!! Totally in control of the group, acknowledging and adapting to our various idiosyncrasies and providing us with a knowledge and understanding of the flora & fauna as well as the many species of bird.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I’m in my 70’s & relatively fit but I did find some of the days challenging. Most of the paths are on sand, some on rock/limestone and on some occasions you are scrambling up & down rocks. Boots with ankle support and walking poles were invaluable.

Spectacular Andorra

Andorra is a beautiful country and the Exodus trip perfectly captures the essence of it via the organised walking trips. It is a mountainous area, as such, be prepared for walking at higher altitudes and a reasonable amount of uphill sections, as such, a good personal physical condition is recommended. You will be rewarded with spectacular scenery and panoramic views of the area. Alfonso is an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable of the area and attentive to the needs of the group with impeccable organisation to ensure everyone gets the maximum enjoyment from the trip. If you are looking for something out of the ordinary then I would highly recommend this trip.
