Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Spectacular scenery! Blessed with very good weather which helped a lot.
Trek was significantly harder than expected with much more daily ascending & descending.
Local support staff; guides, porters, etc were excellent. (The rest of the group were a pleasure to be with).
A very memorable trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Poon Hill! Sunrise over the Annapurna range I will never forget.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent! Always seemed to have everything under control - even when group members needed last minute changes. Unflustered and always smiling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes are inconsistent. There are a LOT of steps to ascend and descend in a significant number of the days. This makes for some long and arduous days & is not indicated adequately in the trip notes. Although only a couple of the group failed to complete the complete trek, the general concensus was that it was harder than the rating indicated.

Galapagos In Darwin' Steps

Simply the best trip I have ever been on. I did not want to come home! The leader made everything happen with no hitches – and encouragement for a slightly trepidatious snorkeller! As for the Galapagos – Wow! I think that that the trip, being landbased, allowed us to experience so much more, meet more locals and eat local food and just soak up the atmosphere – on the beaches or in the bar!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Two inspirational moments - playing with the sea lions in the surf and snorkelling with turtles.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our Leader was fantastic - ensured all arrangements just happened, was passionate, deeply knowledgeable and inspirational about The Galapagos, found us great places to eat and was encouraging and caring on the more difficult parts of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a reasonable camera, an underwater camera and lots of memory power. The sea was surprisingly cold - a wet suit would be a great addition to the packing.

Cambodian Adventure

This trip gave us the opportunity to experience urban and rural Cambodia. It was not just about the major attractions like Angkor Wat,but also less visited places such as Koh Kong. With just 5 people in the group it was easy to organise ourselves and our tour leader Rous was always great company, ensuring we were enjoying what we were doing and offering us lots of local Cambodian foods.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our visit to Bantreay Srey was a delight. Although other temples were awesome in their size and complexity it was this temple that was a highlight. The intricacy of the relief work and the attention to detail was amazing. We were very glad that this was part of the itinerary and not just the bigger temples.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Rous was so much fun and a great ambassador for her country. She was knowledgeable about its past and the sadness of its recent history, but full of optimism for its future. This was such an important cultural message to impart. She was caring and considerate, making sure we could comfortably complete the bicycle rides when some of us weren't feeling very well. Rous often stopped the mini-bus so we could try new foods, see how foods were prepared, exposing us to all things Cambodian, that we otherwise would miss out on.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We visited Cambodia in late October, when the weather on the south coast was still quite wet. Because of the humidity an umbrella is of more use than a plastic poncho (you sweat less). Apply the bugspray (Rous's words) before you think you need it. Just put it on before venturing out, like putting on your shoes. Take as little as possible - 3 of everything is enough. Just handwash more often. We fitted everything into 40L backpacks. Any walking we did, did not require hiking boots and we didn't take any gear specifically for the cycling we did.

An amazing week in Jordan

Petra had been on my wish list for years and didn’t disappoint. I hadn’t done my home work and was a bit surprised by the scale: a twelve mile walk including the Monastery.

Most Inspirational Moment

Bizarrely, the night in the desert where we caught the first rain of the year: the idyll of sleeping out under the stars was replaced by the wet dog smell of a Bedouin tent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sami was extremely knowledgeable and very welcoming.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy everything : Jerash, the Dead Sea, mosaics at Madaba, snorkeling in the Red Sea. These were all bonuses on top of Petra. I never felt unsafe in Jordan.

Botswana & Zimbabwe Lodge Safari

Looked good, but if you want to see the amazing Makgadikgadi Salt Pan, don’t pick this one. We’ve been before, it should be miles of eerie silence, but not on this trip. This “visit” was a very real disappointment, leaving us feeling cheated. To see it reasonably you need 4WD and this trip didn’t use it here.

The accommodation, we didn’t expect to be luxurious, but one place for 2 nights was grimy cramped airless and sleepless.

Most Inspirational Moment

Flight over the Okavango.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very good.

Reply from Exodus

We would like to thank Chris for his feedback. Whilst we do try to explain the nature of the visit to the Makgadikgadi Pan in the trip notes, we sincerely regret that he was disappointed with this. We are sorry that Chris did not enjoy some of the accommodation he stayed at; we have passed his comments on to our local manager and we will continue to closely monitor all client feedback we receive about the accommodation to ensure that it is continuing to meet our expectations.

Walking the Amalfi coast

A fantastic week. You fit a huge amount into your 7 days. Leisurely walking and sight-seeing. As well as lots of history.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking around and then into Vesuvius was a highlight. As were the beautiful views of the Amalfi coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eric was a lot of fun. I have never met someone with his passion for, and in depth knowledge of, the process of mozzarella making. He was very helpful in organising extra-curricular activities for our day off and evenings.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't go in the cheese factory with a hangover. I don't think poles are needed for the walks. Visit the gardens in Ravello. Eat as much pistachio ice cream as you can manage. Research and enjoy Italian songs about Funiculars. If you enjoy Pompeii then I recommend visiting Herculaneum on your free day. We combined it with a visit to the archaeological museum in Naples which has some very interesting examples of statues and art from both sites including some eye-opening depictions of goats.

Kerala

All in all this was a fabulous trip ! Food was excellent. Hotels etc excellent. Cycling challenging enough to give you something to think about each day. Local people wonderful ! Just do it !

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling all the way up Ootty !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Saafi and his team were EXCELLENT !!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ladies don't worry you can cycle in Lycra and vests all the time. I packed all sorts of cover up clothes that never came out of my bag !

Walking in Tuscany

A lovely place, with a great group of people which all combined to make for a wonderful trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

Each day was its own enjoyable challenge

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sara was terrific.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy.

Our Indian adventure

An enjoyable holiday, greatly enhanced by sharing it with a fantastic group of like-minded people. A fabulous way to capture the spirit of Rajasthan. With the added bonus of mixing the ‘sights’ with a glimpse of ‘everyday life’.
A little disappointing not to have sampled more ‘local’ food. The leader preferring hotels or ‘tourist’ type restaurants.
Would have liked to have seen more of the sights around Delhi, rather than driving round in circles by bus.
Compared to our previous trips, there was a lot of time spent on the bus.
The cycling was great. A mixture of easy and more challenging routes. I do however question Exodus’s assertion that everyone is able to ride at their own pace. There were no particularly slow people in our group, however there were times when the slowest were pressured to get on the bus, despite the group being happy to wait. Conversely others were required to slow down to keep the group together, this was often frustrating for both ends of the spectrum. This may have been due to there being only two guides cycling, only one of which was of reasonable fitness.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling through the villages were the most interesting and enjoyable times. The sleeper train was a surprisingly enjoyable experience also.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader spoke good English and enthusiastically shared his local knowledge with the group. He wasn't however so enthusiastic about the cycling element and lacked cycling fitness which sometimes compromised safety. The assistant leader is more of a cycling enthusiast with the fitness to match but unfortunately showed little interest in the monuments and sights.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of high energy snacks. Unlike on similar trips, these were not provided or easily bought. Our group were often hungry and energy reserves dipped on some of the more challenging cycling days. We soon learnt to take food from the breakfast buffet to refuel later on. We found we needed more money for food than the trip notes suggest. We were encouraged to tip more than the trip notes suggested also. There are opportunities to get laundry done.

Land of the Tiger

a great trip, but tiring, it is billed as leisurely, but getting up at 4.30 every day and bumping around in a jeep for eight hours takes its toll. Seeing a tiger makes it all worthwhile. Beautiful scenery and lovely sunrises. The lodges were lovely and the food superb. A nice group of people.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing a tiger at close quarters. What an adrenaline filled moment, I was shaking so much my husband had to hold on to me so I could take photos.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Vijay was fantastic, nothing was too much trouble for him, everything ran to time. The only thing he couldn't organise was the Tigers to appear. We went in October, but are told that April/May is the best time for tiger sightings.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The early mornings in October were really really cold, blankets were provided by the lodges but you need warm clothes, we brought a fleece as advised but needed to buy more to go on top, layers are best as it warms up mid morning. One of our group had thermal undies, believe me you need them!
