Get off the beaten track and see how ordinary people in Sri Lanka live, yet still visit many of the well-known tourist sights.
Cycling the climb up to Nuwara Eliya (even though I pulled a hamstring close to the top and didn’t make it!) - not only is it a challenging ride, but the countryside it goes through is peaceful and idyllic.
I’ve been on many Exodus trips with some leaders well known to the Exodus community of travellers, but Ruwan was a gear ahead of the rest: relaxed, sociable, efficient, punctual, great at communicating the plan for each section of the ride, excellent at working with his support team and possessing an encyclopaedic knowledge of his country’s history, culture flora and fauna.
Pack a flannel - soaked in water and put on your head under your helmet it cools you down on long hot rides (of which there are many). Eat as much curd (buffalo milk yoghurt) and treacle as you can lay your hands on - it’s delicious.
Well run and a good blend of organised activities and free time.
The walk to the waterfall and the picnic. The guided tour around Fez.
Mohamed was helpful and thoughtful. I suspect he did a lot behind the scenes to ensure our trip was a success. Everything was well organised.
Covered the India experience I was hoping for. Very well organised tour, decent hotels and restaurants, interesting destinations, comfortable transport, a brilliant experienced guide who managed the group dynamics well. Sufficient free time, varied activities, journeys broken regularly with stops at well chosen venues.
Hindu temple ceremonies, Ranakpur temple, Bundi fort & chai, fresh samosas, Ranthambhore park, Agra fort and Taj Mahal, Fatepur Sikri, Jai Singh.
Enthusiastic lover of Indian culture and history. Great rapport with the group. Very well organised and experienced when arranging visits to sites, sampling street life, maintaining safety in crowds and health precautions.
You organised a truly unforgettable week in an arctic wonderland
The hike to Riisitunturi, cross country skiing, the Little Bear Trail and other walks around Oulanka, and the fantastic guides you have in Thoomas and Joonas. There knowledge, kindness, humility and love for nature and their local environment was inspirational
Outstanding, inspirational, whatever you’re paying him it isn’t enough!!
The itinerary is well planned and varied, the accommodation is great and the prices are good considering the number of experiences we have.
Travelling in 4 x 4s along mountain passes; camel riding; visiting Bedouin people; staying at the Arabian Nights Resort; the kindness of the Omani people and our super tour leader.
Umar was friendly and got to know everyone in the group. He was organised and had a lot of knowledge and love for his country that he was keen to share.
This one week tour is 50% wildlife spotting and 50% long travel days. Wildlife is colourful, diverse and fairly easy to spot, but the experiences were hindered by unseasonably cool and wet conditions – unexpected, but nonetheless possible in February. Walks were often spent sheltering under the hood of my waterproof jacket and an appreciation of the Costa Rican landscapes was limited. Road journeys between hotels were longer than expected, often due to heavy traffic. The optional excursions were OK, but not great value for money. Unfortunately, Costa Rica’s high end tourist industry has become expensive and quite commercialised.
Simple pleasures such as watching the birds come to the feeders opposite the breakfast table at Arenal a chance roadside encounter with a sloth. These moments felt more like an authentic Central American travel experience than the somewhat packaged included activities.
The group leader was cheerful, knowledgeable about the local wildlife and ran the tour effectively although he could have been better organised and clearer in his communication at times.
I added an extension to Punta Leona on the Pacific Coast to my trip. The resort is vast and spread out over the coastal dry forest. Although the beach was pleasant and there was some wildlife to see, the various tourist facilities on offer felt more like an overwealming choice of expensive options that made for a less relaxing end to the trip than I was expecting.
We found dealing with Exodus very satisfactory from first phone call to final departure from hotel at the end of the holiday. Price was reasonable and included reasonable quality accommodation offering comfortable rooms and amenities and good restaurant. Special mention for our guide Veriano who took great care of us throughout the trip.
Visiting Pompeii and Herculaneum; views of the Amalfi Coast from height; meeting other people in the group.
Veranio was a good group leader with a pleasant whimsical sense of humour. He was keen to show off his home area giving us interesting information about the history and geography of the area. He was also keen to ensure we were enjoying ourselves and put a lot of himself into the role of leader. He was obviously very keen to please us and needed reassurance that he had done so.
The Discover Sri Lanka tour was very comprehensive, and exceeded expectations
I particularly enjoyed the trek through Horton Plains
Professional and very accommodating, good client skills, and excellent sense of humour
Well organised and thought out itinerary. Well paced trip that showed all the highlights. Very special to have local guides showing us around and meeting generous locals to meet and eat with.Superbly lead by our guide Hicham ( absolute star)
So many of those! If pushed then then the day we had in Fez, the Roman ruins (much more there than led to believe and beautiful setting) the Sahara desert and our stay up in Tighza for its scenery, the walking and the children we met. Of course the group we had got on so well. Great company.
Hicham was superb. He was engaging, knowledgeable, very organised and was clear in his instructions. He facilitated many opportunities to meet local people so we felt we'd experienced so much more than other trips. Our meals with local families was very special. He had a lovely sense of humour and ensured everyone was included. Definitely up for guide of the year!
