Great!

Super week's walking in North Cyprus

An excellent week’s walking in North Cyprus with a great group and a superb guide.

The guide’s commentary on the history of the sights we saw including the ancient castles, churches, mosques, monastries really added to the trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views of the island from the ancient castles, gorgeous scenes of the coast and island environment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gizer was a superb guide and represents the very best of Exodus guides. He managed the pace of the walks superbly (no mean feat given that there were 16 in the group), gave very insightful commentary on the sights we saw including history, fauna and flora and was an extremely engaging and helpful chap - his recommendations for dinner in town were very good.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go! This is an excellent walking trip and the addition of the guide's commentary on the sights we saw really was a bonus. Christmas is good time to walk given that it is warmer in Cyprus than almost any other part of Europe. Consider staying on for a few extra days in the South of the island to get a full flavour of the country. The optional trips to Famagusta and Salamis were very good.

Excellent walking in North Cyprus

An excellent week walking exploring North Cyprus at Christmas with a very pleasant and friendly group. This is not just a walking trip for you get an excellent overview of the history of the ancient castles, monastries etc that you see that really adds to the quality of the holiday.

A very good variety of walks across different landscapes but mostly having views of the sea – expertly led by a superb guide.

Most Inspirational Moment

Any view of the isalnd (north and south) from the three ancient castles we walked to.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Gizer was a superb guide and represents the best kind of leader Exodus regularly has on its books. He expertly led the pace of the walks (no mean feat with 16 in the group), provided very interesting commentary on the history of the places we were walking, the fauna and flora, and gave some fine recommendations for dinner. Top class.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go on the optional Salamis & Famagusta tour, very good. Christmas is a great time of year to go with the sun shining (most of the time!) and temperatures much better than home and pretty much anywhere else in Europe. Consider spending a few extra days in the South to enjoy all of the island.

A true taste of Morocco

Spent a memorable Christmas in a beautiful country with some wonderful people. The trip give you a great taste of what this wonderful has to offer

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many highlights of this trip but waking up in the desert on Christmas Day was perfection.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Omar was was excellent. He managed to pass on enough information about the county and trip without making us feel that we were being controlled.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are travelling in winter take warm clothes for the evenings as some places are really cold. There is no need to take a sleeping bag with you as there are plenty of extra blankets available in the Gite and at the Bedouin camp if you need them. Walking boots or good walking shoes are needed if you want to experience the trek without risking twisting an ankle.

Excellent trip - superb scenery and wildlife

A great trip, 2 nights in each hotel, fairly long drives on the days we moved on. We saw lots of spectacular wildlife and scenery – rainforest, cloud forest, beaches, waterways, countless birds, cute moneys, plus some mammals we’d never heard of, such as olingoes and agoutis.

Come prepared for hot and sticky weather on the coast and cold and wind in the mountains.

Most Inspirational Moment

The waterways in Tortuguero and the magnificent cloud forest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Alex Castro, was great. He spoke excellent English and knew all the birds and animals. he had an excellent telescope to help us see the birds. Alex worked really hard to make sure we were all well looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared for both hot and cold weather.

Johannesburg to Cape Town

A great 3 week trip for those who like a mixture of wildlife, history, African culture, Wine areas and views, with time to take in the sights and atmosphere. Some walking enhanced the scenery views which most managed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Wildlife parks and Enclosures, seeing a warden stroking a Hyena and the Hyena enjoying it. Seeing the kill of a Leopard hung up in a Tree and 20 minutes later seeing the Leopard. Cape Town, Table mountain. Seeing Whales off shore out of season, the viewing boats had stopped running.

Thoughts on Group Leader

A great guide with excellent knowledge of wildlife, with good knowledge of South Africa. Tireless in cooking and clearing away, always cheerful. Coped with electricity cuts well, using gas ring to cook and battery lights. Tried to please all and adapted tour to suit the majority.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trip notes covered most points. A head troch and troch was most useful in the early mornings and evenings. Insect spray was required. Take money and exchange in Bank or Money Bureau. An ATM 'scam' cost one over £400! Take care walking on loose stones, a leg gash needed treatment and 3 stiches. An attempt at handbag robbery in Cape Town was annoying on the final last day. Warnings to be 'street wise' were given. Seek travel advice from locals, as local busses were inexpensive, fast, but crowded. My mini bus took me to the Hotel.

Good balanced trip.

I picked the trip as it balanced wildlife and the culture. It was a good mix and highlighted the differences between Borneo and ‘Malaya’ parts. About the right time spent in both areas.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunset boat ride in the adventure lodge. The War cemetery at Sandakan and the food 'mekan' tour in the peninsula, watching the sunset on Petronas tower at Traders Bar.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The guide Wye in the peninsula was excellent. Would give her 5 stars for organisation, enthusiasm and hard work. Her suggestions for things to do and places to eat were good. I was less impressed with Aldrin, he did not seem to be as well organised, didn't know our flight times, the botanical gardens we had barely 20 minutes and then left us with a "guide" for the 'hike' who went off and left us struggling down the slippery paths without waiting for us. We ended the walk early as we felt unsafe.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take an umbrella as is too hot for rain coats and useful for the sun and frequent rain showers. Take lots of insect repellent as you sweat it off. It is not a 'leisurely' trip so if you don't like getting out of your comfort zone don't do it but for me was a great place to visit. You will be fed every couple of hours on the pensinsula so don't order too much as there will be more to come later!
