A full-on trip which took us to most of the must-see places in Costa Rica

This holiday was both challenging and exhilarating. The scenery was spectacular and the weather perfect for walking in February. We had clear and careful guidance from our guide before and during the walks which probably helped the group to gain most from the experience (different goals for members of the group) Our guide, Jose, loved his local area and was able to add a lot of information and was very supportive of all.
Last day-reaching the summit with spectacular 360 degree views, including of the Med and interesting geology
Jose was great in all respects
We agreed that this walk averaged out as challenging/5 rather than Mod/challenging 4. Steep rocky gradients at times. I felt I was slightly out of my depth on the downhills for the first time
Amazing support crews, great routes and experiences creating memorable moments and making new friends.
Thailand amazing food, great routes and support crew who as well as being safe, provided a bit of fun for those that fancied a little challenge. They produced fantastic video clips of our time there. Now that was a premium touch.
Chai was amazing. Without a doubt made this trip bringing us all together with a smile, a laugh and so knowledgeable about the countries visited. A true leader.
Pack light. Lots of moving between hotels and not a lot of time to unpack
Great trip, we felt that we had seen a lot of the country, had some great bike rides and guided wildlife experiences.
Many: the cycle rides through the amazing landscape of Costa Rica; the wildlife; kayaking through the mangroves; Pachira Lodge at Tortuguero
The group leader was very competent, well organised and kept us safe throughout the trip. However he was not local and therefore we missed out on information about the local history, traditions and cultural-social sensitivities of Costa Rica
The only cash you need is for tips, cards can be used for everything else.
A really interesting week’s snowshoeing in beautiful mountians in an unspoilt part of the world
Several - the last day's walking in idyllic mountains, bear sanctuary visit. In fact each day was stunning and different.
Thomas was excellent. Not only was he very knowledgable and enthusiastic but he looked after the group well.
Go on this trip
Trip was very diverse with a great bunch of travelling companions.
So much to see and do with sufficient amount of downtime.
Standard of accommodation exceeded our expectations and the transport (coach) supplied was comfortable with plenty of room for everyone.
So many wonderful things to view on this trip from such a diverse country, my stand out moment was Lion Rock and Clare loved every experience the trip provided however, what stood out to her most was how welcoming and friendly the country and people were.
Roshan was an excellent group leader who along with our Driver (Also Roshan) and Assistant (Sundan) made this a well organised and laid back trip, all are a credit to their country and company. Roshan was very knowledgable and delivered all the information with passion and humour. He provided so much information without it feeling like information overload. He was always on hand to answer any queries or concerns and always dealt with them with a smile.
Plenty of opportunities to access ATM's for local currency so you don't need to carry excessive cash with you, a mix of currencies (Dollars, Pounds & Rupees) served us well as most places accept card payments, Revolut or similar pre paid cards are ideal. If internet access is a priority, Wifi in the hotels is adequate however other members of the group purchased pre-paid SIM cards very cheap (£4) with lots of data.
Busy tour with much of interest, good hotels, excellent food and knowledgeable guide
Walks and seafood restaurants on the beaches, boat trips and jeep safaris to see wild life.
Excellent
Worth taking this trip
Many changes to trip notes – including days walking and lack of public transport
Got better as week went on. First night was dreadful. we had to chase hotel to find out time to meet. Then we were waiting in a separate place and we had to then go and find leader. No group meets in evening arranged until we suggested. I think he didn't know how Exodus operates generally as his first one and I felt sorry for the many lone travellers in our group as they were on their own for 3 evenings I think.
Take own snacks from UK for lunches. Local shops poor and unhealthy selections (no M&S Salads!) and often closed when had time to shop
We’re disappointed to read that Jenny felt her trip to Madeira could have been better, though we are thankful for her taking the time to leave a review.
We do highlight in our trip notes that occasionally, the itinerary may be shuffled or changed for a variety of reasons outside of Exodus’ control, most commonly on walking trips because of weather. We have followed up with our local team about the changes made, but are confident that these will have retained the integrity of the original itinerary as much as possible. Regarding public transport, we use this as well as private vehicles, though occasionally for the benefit of the group we use the latter over the former for logistical reasons.
It was Jenny’s tour leader, Narcisco’s, first Exodus trip, for which we provide comprehensive training and a leader handbook. However, it sounds like he did not arrange meetings and group meals as we would expect, and we have followed up with our local team to remind him to do this on any future trips he leads. Narcisco should also have been more proactive in leaving messages at reception so that your group could gather for your welcome briefing, and we are sorry this was not done and caused some real inconvenience.
We are also exploring the possibility of providing healthy lunch options which our customers can pack at their hotel in the morning before walks.
We hope that the above can show that we are following up on Jenny’s concerns, and hope that we will be able to welcome her back on another Exodus trip when she travels again.

We enjoyed our tour very much. Pick up from the airport was a little chaotic as a lot of flights had been altered due to strikes and we didn’t seem to be on any of the reps lists. Other arrangements went well. Saw a lot of the country in a short time and the programme had been well thought out.
Some of the accommodation in the early part of the trip was very dated and needed some serious reinvestment.
Seeing so much wildlife and beautiful flora.
Our group leader David was excellent. Always willing to help and was very good at spotting all manner of wildlife especially birds. He went out of his way to put in extra activities and it was really appreciated by all the group.
This trip covered so many different experiences, every day was a delight. Our group were the best travelling companions you could possibly hope for and were a pleasure to be with. The hotels were of a very good standard.
Too many to choose just one. I enjoyed the cycling through villages, the white water rafting and the hike on Horton Plains, especially as being in my mid 70s I had worried I might not be able to keep up with the younger members. However, the icing on the cake was seeing the turtle on the beach laying her eggs on the beach by our hotel.
Roshan was the best leader you could wish to have. He gave us lots of background information on everywhere we were going and the history of Sri Lanka. He had a wonderful sense of humour and full of good advice on recommendations on where to eat.
Try everything on offer, you may well surprise yourself.
