Chimps & Gorillas of Uganda

This was my first visit to East Africa and I absolutely loved it! Passing through lush jungle and remote villages, I was enchanted by everything that I saw and experienced in Uganda.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many highlights. The noisy chimpanzees of Kibale Forest, hundreds of monkey's lounging in the trees of the Bigodi Wetlands, coming face to face with a family of gorillas after a humid trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, spotting elephants, lions and other big game in Queen Elizabeth National Park, seeing hippos line the banks of the Kazinga Channel as a herd of elephants came to drink at the waters edge.... the list goes on!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was a pleasure to be around with great wildlife knowledge. We all enjoyed his company and everything ran very smoothly. The group were great fun to be with and plenty of stories were shared over a 'Nile Special' in the evenings.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a good camera and lens but remember that sometimes you need to put the camera down and just enjoy the experience! Especially when you have just one precious hour with the gorillas. It was magical to just sit and watch their behaviour and interactions without trying to get the perfect photo.

Ancient and modern Japan - a must-do tour

We loved this tour! We had wanted to visit Japan for years, and this was everything we’d hoped for. Loved the Japanese design ethos, which permeated everything. The contrast between rural Japan and Tokyo was huge, yet the underlying culture was a stratum running through it all. Touring round Tokyo by train and metro may look off-putting at first (the crowds!!!) but it’s actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. We thought this trip would be a once-in-a-lifetime event: I can now say with confidence that it will not be!

We went for the cherry blossom - and it was at its most beautiful in the little town of Takayama.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Good, but I think it was his first time with Exodus and he hadn't quite expected the independence of his group.

Go! and then go again.

Imperial China and Yangtze river cruise

The whole trip was fantastic and our guide Alan was brilliant . I did all the included and optional trips and excursions and enjoyed them all. There were so many highlights and a great mixture of types of highlights and activities. We had great warm weather on the April excursion date. Another 1-2 days in Shanghai at the end would have been great. A busy trip with lots of variety.

A great country to visit on a bike

I had a really great holiday cycling the backroads of Sri Lanka. There was a lot of variety on the trip and some very interesting cycling through lots of small non touristy villages. The country is very beautiful and have lots to offer so I enjoy it all very much even though the cycling in the heat was very challenging at times. However we did have a bit of a heat way when I went so the temperature was way over average.

Most Inspirational Moment

There was many but I really loved Sigiriya in the beginning of the trip - was nice with a cycling in the morning, then a rest at the pool and finally climbing the big rock in the afternoon.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader was excellent and I cannot recommend Suresh enough. He has a real passion for his country and will happily share all his knowledge with you. He also gave us several small nice surprises on the trip - with gave the whole thing a very personal touch.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try and get fit before the trip, that will definitely make the cycling more enjoyable since there are a few challenging days.

Amalfi trip

Fabulous trip – when I come back from Exodus trips I am never sure if the people or the place were the best thing and true yet again. That part of Italy is surely wonderful and the walking was totally great. You do need sticks and also a sunhat……… bear in mind the weather when booking as it was almost too hot for me, though I don’t enjoy the heat so was down to me. Of course our leader Suzie made the trip the best and so memorable her knowledge and care were really great. Visit Herculaneum on the day off – far better than Pompeii. I am hoping cruise ships don’t ruin the area, we avoided Capri because of that though people that went enjoyed that too.

Hard to pick a moment - just first walk and seeing the wonderful coastline that we were about to explore.

A week in Jordan

An excellent tour of Jordan taking in a variety of diverse but all equally memorable and fascinating experiences.

Most Inspirational Moment

Several but notably standing on Mount Nebo and looking out over 'the promised land' and, of course, Petra particularly the walk to the high place of sacrifice and the view of the treasury from above whilst enjoying a cup of Bedouin tea.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Knowledgeable but clearly volatile - got himself into a couple of scraps which meant he was late for our first day in Petra and then in police custody on our day at the seaside resort on the Dead Sea. I wasn't particularly impressed that one of the first things he said to us was how much we would all need to put in for the tip kitty - £15 per person - this meant that my husband, daughter and I handed over £45 which seemed rather a lot for the use of toilets and evening meal tips. It was then the responsibility of each member of the group to look after the, initially, sizeable kitty and dole it out frequently under Danny's supervision - an example being our night in Wadi Rum (which we had already paid for via Exodus) - we were then expected to tip the Bedouin for transporting our bags and us to the camp site, the evening drive through the desert (which was already part of the holiday) and cooking the breakfast and evening meal (each tipped separately!!)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the irritating tip scenario! Accept that in many shops you will be charged more for your goods than Jordanians

We have addressed the points raised by this client with our local manager. We often find that tipping kitties ease uncertainty about how much and whom to tip whilst overseas, but we are disappointed about the way in which this issue was raised and managed throughout the trip. We have asked our local manager to provide our leaders with greater guidance about this matter.

Undiscovered Atlas

This trip takes you to an area of Morocco which certainly feels remote and untouched by tourism.
If you like to meet people from a different culture who are genuinely friendly and welcoming, and to walk in wide open landscapes then you’ll enjoy this trip.
The high point of the trip is the ascent of Jebel Aklim, which gives excellent views of the High Atlas and towards the Sahara.

Most Inspirational Moment

Talking to local children and going into a school in a village to see how different life is compared to the UK.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent leader who was always helpful and informative with a great sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't expect luxuries on this trip. The camping is basically wild, so expect to give up some home comforts for a few nights. Take plenty of sunscreen and warm clothing as it gets cold at night. Hand sanitizer is a must, and take a swimming costume for a dip in the pools near the end of the trip.. Some people took extra food to eat during the day, but this really isn't necessary as the meals provided were always plentiful and filling.

Mount Toubkal - one week trek

Fantastic trip which I’ll never forget and for me a big achievement to have climbed so high and in altitude. I keep reliving it and looking at my photos.

Most Inspirational Moment

I was in tears when I got to the summit - it was a hard struggle but I made it, the view was fantastic, the weather was perfect and I felt immensely proud. No wonder people climb mountains - you just want to do it again to experience that wonderful hit.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Patient, kind, witty, well informed, very calm when my husband got altitude sickness - he prophesied he'd be fine in the morning - the morning of the big climb - and indeed he was! He also helped a leader of another party who'd fallen and broken his collar bone on the descent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do some training - we did quite a bit in the weeks before eg coastal walking with lots of ups and downs, walking regularly and fast (not because you have to walk fast on the trip but just to develop fitness) walking up escalators, walking up stairs rather than taking the lift. It helps to have done fell climbing on rough terrain but you do not need to have had previous altitude experience. I hadn't and was totally surprised I wasn't affected. Nothing to do with fitness but everything to do with drinking regularly and taking it slowly. If you don't like heat do it in April/May. Trekking poles are a great help on the descent.

Peaks and Valleys of the Atlas June/July 2014

I can recommend this trek. It was my first trek and my first time camping for over 55 years. I found the whole experience a bit of a challenge at times but great fun, and a wonderful experience. The pace was fine. I was rarely out of breath. None of us suffered any altitude problems. The guide was superb in every way, as were his assistant, cook, and muleteers. The group were excellent company and supportive of each other. The food was great.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many, but on reflection it was probably one night during Ramadan hearing one of the muleteers making the evening call to prayers which echoed around the mountains, probably unheard by any but ourselves.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Superb, Professional and thoughtful but really friendly and good company. Another highlight was talking as a group with him after evening meal about Berber and Moroccan history and culture and beliefs.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We travelled in late June and early July. but there was never any problem with heat, even though the days were sunny with clear blue skies. Usually we walked early to avoid too much time exposed to the sun. It was hotter in Marrakech of course. Do take at least one walking pole. I used just the one.
