Explore Capri Town

Equally as seductive as the natural scenery that surrounds it, Capri Town oozes charm with its swanky boutiques, pavement cafes and bustling Piazzetta where the rich and famous hang out. As you pass by elegant, whitewashed villas, the gentle scent of wisteria and bougainvillaea wafts on the breeze while narrow alleyways lead you through a quieter, more authentic side of the town. Roman Villa Jovis, the former residence of Emperor Tiberius, should be on your list of things to see in Capri.

Visit the Gardens of Augustus

Providing an oasis of calm, away from the hustle and bustle of Capri Town, the Gardens of Augustus offer a natural paradise teetering on the clifftops. The 180-degree views from here stretch out across the Bay of Naples and are among some of the best on the island. The botanical gardens are made up of ancient monuments and seafront terraces that erupt with colour from ornamental plants and flowers. One of the most notable monuments here was sculpted by Giacomo Manzu, which was commissioned by Italy’s Soviet Embassy in memory of Vladimir Lenin.

Sail Around the Faraglioni

Vying for your attention as you look out across the bay, the Faraglioni is a trio of imposing sea stacks that rise from the water just off the southern coast of Capri. Individually named as Stella, Faraglione di Mezzo, and Faraglione di Fuori, each rock is home to the unique podarcis sicula coerulea, a blue lizard that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. The Faraglione di Mezzo is the most distinctive of the three sea stacks, and the subject for many a photographer, as it features an arch-shaped cavity, just big enough for a small boat to sail through.

Ride the Cable Car up Monte Solario

Dramatically rising up almost 2,000ft from the Bay of Naples, Mont Solaro is the highest point on the island of Capri. If you want to witness some of the best views in Italy, take the cable car from Piazza della Vittoria in Anacapri to the summit where you’ll find unparalleled panoramas of Capri and beyond. Alternatively, hike 1.5 hours to the top to be rewarded with phenomenal views.

Capri also boasts one of the finest foodie scenes in the world. Tuck into a traditional Caprese salad made with the largest, juiciest tomatoes you’ve ever seen or sample a delicious seafood linguine in a beachfront restaurant, all nicely washed down with a limoncello, of course.

But if it’s historic buildings that excite you, the 16^th-century Santa Sofia church is a must-see site on Capri trips. This Baroque-style Catholic church can be found in the centre of Anacapri and gives you a fascinating insight into this major religion that dominates the island.

The excursions were fun. I enjoyed all the people in our group. Food was good and plentiful. The family that runs the hotel did not seem very friendly. The sister in-law of one of the brothers was very annoying, when she speaks she screams. The family always ate next us in the dining room, she was horrible, our guide even asked her to pipe down. The staff was fantastic. Nice grounds but barely a 3 star.

My thoughts on this trip are a bit mixed.

Pros:
Our tour guide, Veriano, was fantastic—funny, thoughtful, and incredibly knowledgeable. He was truly one of the best parts of the trip. He took great care of us and paced the itinerary well, allowing us to see and experience a lot without feeling rushed. Having him handle all the logistics in advance was a huge benefit—it allowed us to maximize our time and fully enjoy each location. One highlight was the convertible bus ride from Amalfi, which he arranged as a surprise—absolutely unforgettable! I also really enjoyed the group of fellow travelers—such kind, interesting people who added so much to the experience.

Cons:
Working with Exodus was more challenging than expected. Their process seems geared primarily toward travelers from the UK, especially when it comes to flights and logistics, so coming from elsewhere was more complicated and less cost-effective. The trip also got off to a rocky start—the initial tour leader who was supposed to meet us at the airport was 40 minutes late, and no one from Exodus or the local team contacted us. It left several of us wandering the airport, unsure of what to do. Thankfully, things improved significantly once we connected with Veriano.

I had mixed feelings about the hotel (Hotel Due Torri). There was rarely anyone at reception, which made it difficult to get assistance when needed. Meals were served in a large, hot, noisy dining room where the hotel owner’s dog frequently barked, and the breakfast staff came across as unhappy and even dismissive—at one point, a breakfast staff member made fun of one of us in Italian saying, “I guess she can’t read”. That said, there were bright spots—Salvatore and a few other team members were warm and welcoming, and the cooking demonstrations were enjoyable. Unfortunately, the food itself didn’t measure up to other meals I’ve had in Italy.

Like many travel experiences, this trip had both highlights and lowlights. Overall, I’m grateful for the opportunity and the wonderful people I met, but I’d likely consider a different travel company in the future.
