Norway

Travellers from the UK, US and EU normally do not need a visa to enter Norway. Please note, visa requirements often change and it is your responsibility to obtain any required visas for this trip. Therefore, we recommend that you check with the nearest embassy or consulate of your chosen destination(s), including any countries you may be transiting or transferring through.

Some local governments provide guidance on what visas their citizens need. To help, we’ve gathered a selection of useful links below.

This journey is designed to deepen your connection to Norway through its food and drink. Expect seasonal menus shaped by region and tradition, from city dining in Trondheim to coastal cooking in Sveggvika. Highlights include a hands-on bacalao workshop, farm lunches in fjord country, local beer tastings, and dinners that reflect both land and sea.

Central and western Norway have cool, changeable weather shaped by sea, fjords, and high plateaus. From late spring to early autumn, daylight is long and temperatures are generally mild. Coastal areas can feel cooler and unsettled, while inland valleys and uplands are colder. Showers are possible year-round, so layered clothing is recommended.

As a certified B Corp, we’re on a mission to improve our social and environmental impact across all our adventures.

We do this through our innovative Thriving Nature, Thriving People plan.

This ‘nature positive’ approach is designed to help nature and communities thrive in harmony through practical solutions, such as reducing carbon and waste on our trips, supporting conservation projects through the Exodus Adventure Travels Foundation, and rewilding 100 square metres for every Exodus traveller.

We also weave Signature Legacy moments into your itinerary, so the positive impact of your trip lasts long after your stay. These are moments to remember which help people and nature thrive, ensuring you build a harmonious, positive connection with the places you visit.

On this journey, you can:

  • Walk Valldal’s village centre with local hosts and meet the family behind Valldal Safteri, learning how small-scale enterprise and local produce sustain a resilient fjord community.
  • Visit Melchiorgarden and Kaltegarden Farm, meeting growers who explain how farming, grazing, and organic cultivation actively preserve the fjord landscape through careful land stewardship.

A triumph of a trip!

This trip to Norway was a really spectacular experience. We did so much and each day we looked at what we'd done and it was amazing discussing how much we had fit into each day. However, somehow the pace felt gentle and relaxing and there was space to breathe and take it all in. It was so more than a sightseeing holiday. I felt that we made true personal connections and learned so much from the local interactions entwined into this journey. The landscapes were of course a huge highlight but learning to cook a local dish, sharing a cider with the owner of a stunning Fjord-side orchard, chatting to our wonderful guide about her life in Norway. These were the things which made this trip extraordinary and set it apart from others. Oh and the food will blow you away!

Most Inspirational Moment

There are so many incredible experiences to draw from on this trip and the combination all rolled into one will stay with me. I loved the sea swim and sauna and the kayaking was so wonderful but simply arriving into the Fjord country and getting our first breath-taking view was a true pinch me moment.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ashild was wonderful. She was extremely well organised, friendly and very experienced. She shared stories and experiences and bought the group together in a very professional but relaxed way. We all felt like we left with a friend in Ashild and she was a real asset to the tour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are looking for a trip to Norway which offers more than just the views then seriously consider this trip. Be prepared to experience new things, meet some wonderful characters share some magnificent food with equally magnificent people. The weather can be changeable so bring lots of layers, and a waterproof case for your phone. Comfortable walking shoes and walking poles if you may need. For me, these were useful for the downhill walks. Evenings were very relaxed but if you wanted to dress up a little there could be opportunity but equally no real need to worry.

Experience the REAL Norway

As an Exodus reservations team member who has travelled on many Exodus trips of all types, this one truly took my breath away! And I'm not just talking about the Arctic dip we took in the sea after warming up in the sauna one morning. Nothing was too much trouble, and the hospitality was some of the best I have ever experienced. Every detail felt effortless, every host genuinely passionate about sharing their corner of Norway. You genuinely taste your way through Norway, from a bacalao cooking experience and an organic cider tour overlooking the fjords that felt straight out of a storybook, to sampling reindeer and steak, and raise a horn of mead in a Viking house to the thrum of “Skål!” and “Cheers!” The itinerary is perfectly crafted, making each day feel like the turn of a page in a very old book filled with dramatic landscapes, trolls and medieval history. Perfect for anyone wanting to not just say they've been to Norway, but that they've explored its wild heart and experienced the stories, traditions and landscapes that make this country so unforgettable.

Most Inspirational Moment

One of the most magical moments was gliding by kayak across the glass-still waters of the fjords, the mountains reflected perfectly around us. As we paddled through the silence, our guide brought the landscape to life with tales of King Olav, Viking legends and the serpent-like beasts said to lurk in the dark depths below. It felt less like an excursion and more like stepping into a Norse saga

Thoughts on Group Leader

Åshild was a delight! I really enjoyed her many stories of her personal experiences of growing up in Norway, such as visiting her fathers cabin in the woods and hiking up fjords for hours for a thrilling 30 minute ski down! She has a way of making you feel Norway is your home too in the short time you are there. Her warm demeanor, excellent storytelling and precise organization made the trip flow like a dream!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This isn't a trip for ticking Norway off a list. It's for those who want to dive into its traditions, connect with its people, and experience the raw beauty and folklore that flow through its veins in complete comfort. Come home not just saying you've been to Norway, but feeling as though you've lived a piece of its story and explored its wild, untamed heart.

Fjords, Forests, and Forever Memories

This trip quickly became one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. Norway is breathtaking in photos, but nothing compares to standing among the fjords, mountains, and forests in person. Every destination on the itinerary had its own personality and charm, making the journey feel like several incredible trips woven into one. I especially loved how immersive each stop was. Whether we were exploring Trondheim, learning to cook with local ingredients at Sveggvika Guesthouse, kayaking through the fjords, or enjoying the Viking dinner at Blåtind Boutique Hotel, every experience felt authentic and thoughtfully planned. What made this trip even more special were the people we met along the way. The hotel staff, local hosts, and everyone who shared their traditions and stories made Norway feel incredibly welcoming. It never felt like we were just passing through, it felt like we were being invited to experience a small piece of everyday Norwegian life.

Most Inspirational Moment

Kayaking through the fjord and stopping to eat lunch from a local bakery that was packed in waterproof bags! The mountains rising around us, the quiet, and the feeling of being surrounded by nature, I felt like I was in a nature documentary.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Åshild truly made the trip exceptional. She was organized, knowledgeable, and always happy to answer questions or offer recommendations. More importantly, she made everyone feel comfortable and welcome from the very beginning. Her enthusiasm for Norway was contagious, and you could tell she genuinely wanted every person in our group to have the best possible experience. By the end of the trip, it felt like we were saying goodbye to a friend. I may have shed a few tears after our final farewell.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring layers, some days have more sun or wind, and the rain can change the temperature too! Comfortable walking shoes are essential, and hiking boots for hiking days. Say yes to the optional experiences, try the local foods (especially the brown cheese!), and take time to soak in the magic of Norway!

First time in Norway, definitely not the last!

This trip was a truly amazing and magical way to experience Norway. Each of the hotels provide their own unique locales and activities from the city, to the coast, to deep in the forests along the fjords. The Britannia in Trondheim is right in the heart of the city and a brief walk from a variety of activities and shopping areas. The city feels alive and is full of wonderful and friendly people. The private tour of the Britannia felt like such a warm and exclusive moment of the trip, and the service at the hotel is top-notch! Our second stop, the Sveggvika Guesthouse, was probably one of my favorites. The ferry ride to Kristiansund was full of breathtaking views, and our rooms at the guesthouse were beautiful. The owners are the kindest most genuine people you have ever met; they made the cooking class and beer tasting experiences feel like I was doing them with close friends I’d known for years. This is also where we got to experience swimming in the Fjord at our guide Åshild’s suggestion. It’s not on the itinerary but it is a MUST DO! Our final stop at the Blåtind Boutique Hotel. The Viking dinner experience was probably my favorite meal of the entire trip. The locally sourced three-course meal was delicious, and was even paired with cider from our cider tasting earlier in the day! We met a variety of people on this leg of our trip, and being able to share in the joys of their professions was an unforgettable experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Kayaking through the fjord and experiencing a sense of awe and scale that’s hard to describe with words and impossible to capture on camera. There’s truly so much beauty everywhere you look in Norway.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Åshild was amazing. She’s very down to earth and by the end of the trip felt like family. I forgot my jacket at our kayaking excursion towards the end of the trip, and she was able to contact them and worked with our shuttle driver to swing by to we could pick it up! Truly a life saver! Her suggestions were also amazing. Like going swimming in the fjord at Sveggvika or trying Brown Cheese at the breakfast buffet on our first morning.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack for different kinds of weather! The forecast can change pretty quickly so it is good to be prepared!

Norway? Yes way!

I had such an awesome time on this trip with my fam! There was so much do do and see every day, and the trip was a perfect amount of activity as I was about 7 months recovered from a hip surgery. The fjords unesco site and the fish factory hotel were great highlights, as well as an authentic Viking dinner. And our guide Åshild was amazing, so good at keeping us organized and so fun to hang out with! Definitely a great way to experience Norway!

Most Inspirational Moment

jumping in the sea for a cold plunge and sauna , and then afterwards making a traditional Norwegian dinner, Bacalao, with our host Thomas! The setting was beautiful, with the rustic and wind swept fish factory hotel that was lapped by the waves of the sea. Ask for the “Crave Cave” local beer brewer!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Åshild was amazing! Had everything taken care of to the letter, and was so fun to hang around and joke with. She is also from a very cool and very remote part of Norway - ask her about it! It felt like hanging out with a long lost cousin.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack for all types of weather! The fjords are finicky and change from sunny to rainy on a dime! Be ready for rain!
