Amazon rainforest and Inca Trail

A trip of three distinct parts. It started with three days in the Amazon rainforest which was amixture of treking in the jungle and taking boat trips to view wildlife. the highlight for me was the early morning trip to view the macaws and parakeets feeding. We then travelled to Cusco where we spent a day acclimitising before we started on the Inca trail. Loved every bit of this. Cuzco was a great city to visit and could easily have spent more time there and the Inca trail was amazing. The final part of the trip was a visit to Lake Titicaca; For me this was the least memorable part of the trip because although the scenery was breathtaking the homestay was more like a bed and breakfast then a true cultural experinece. I did enjoy the mujsicians and Puruvian dancing however.

Most Inspirational Moment

Entering through the Sun gate as a group to gain our first glimpse of Machu Pichu was breathtaking. The scenery of and Inca remains along the trail. The hardwork and nothing is too much trouble approach by both the guides and the porters made for an unforgetable experience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Raoul was an outstanding tour guide. His knowledge of the trail and the Inca sites that we visited was interesting and extensive. He went out of his way to make sure that everyone in the group was okay and that their needs were catered for. The pace that we walked at on the trail was just right for managing the climbing and the effects of the altitude. When visiting the rainforest, Cuzco and Lake Titicaca instructions about was needed and times and places to meet were given in great detail. He certainly made the trip a lot of fun.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure that you have insect repellent for all parts of the trip not just the rainforest. A warm jacket for the evenings is also advisable. Walking poles were very useful on the trail.

Discover Namibia - there's more than you expect!

My brother asked me (before the trip) “what’s there?”. I mentioned desert and sand dunes and Etosha and wildlife and long journeys, but although I’ve been to Africa a number of times I was still unprepared for the vastness of the Namib desert, the beauty of the light on the dunes at dawn, the colours, the history, the expanse of Etosha, etc. What there was NOT was also memorable: no light pollution so magical starry skies and beautiful sunsets; hardly any traffic on long straight roads; very few people. Those we did meet in the few towns, in the tiny hamlets and on the campsites were all very pleasant and helpful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sitting quietly on the sand at Deadvlei. Watching the interaction of the various wildlife at Etosha water holes, constantly changing sightings, much of it fairly close up. Seeing the sun set behind the distant mountains from the Wesrand Camp.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Sven - couldn't have had a better leader! Vast experience, knowledgeable, polite, happy to answer all questions. Good driver, kept to times stated.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Cold at night in August but the mattress is thick and comfortable, take a warm sleeping bag. Cool until 9am - long trousers and a fleece, then shorts and shirt until 5pm ish.

This sets the bar high...!

My first trip to Italy & my first group holiday; I’m very well travelled but had several reservations about an ‘organised group tour’ – all my concerns vanished quickly – this is a superb trip with a brilliant guide and I’d have NO reservations about recommending it. Just come prepared for some tough climbs!
Hard cycling, views I’ll never forget, delicious food particularly the first few days with lovely local suppliers sharing their produce, the insights into the life and culture of the region, stunning medieval villages, and most of all – great variety from the quiet pace of life, empty roads and warm welcome of the local people around gentle Cilento to the hectic & dramatic Amalfi coast – it just has it all!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were so many...but the exhilerating coastal roads around Amalfi that wind like ribbons around impossibly high cliffs, sheer drops over perfect crystal water & picture perfect towns.....from lung-busting climbs to absurdly exciting decents, there were so many moments of jaw-dropping beauty & excitement around here, I hardly know where to start!

Thoughts on Group Leader

We all felt so lucky to have Paolo as our group leader; he shared so much knowledge, interest, a genuine passion for the local people, the hidden corners and the changing lifestyle of the region. He helped us feel confident and safe on the challenging roads around Amalfi, and to discover and enjoy the incredible and - to most of us - completely unknown region of Cilento. He was good fun, has a dry sense of humour, was always there for us and nothing seemed too much trouble. He helped me with my travel plans at the end of the trip, and shared great advice for my time in Naples. A total star!

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is down as moderate, but most of us agreed it was challenging at times. The distances were manageable but the inclines - wow! The first and last day were intense - it shouldn't put anyone off, but worth knowing and if you can, get lots of hill training - we did several days with over 4000ft of inclines each. It's absolutely worth it though...I've fallen in love with this entire region of Italy and for all the pain of getting to those incredible heights, the views are unfortgettable and will stay with me forever. Only other advice - take mossie spray, they are vicious, and bite day & night if you're not covered!

Cycling Vietnam

What a fantastic trip and a great way to get a taste of Vietnam whilst enjoying a cycling and sightseeing holiday

Most Inspirational Moment

I don't think I've ever said hello so many times, the children would all run out and shout hello, wave and put their hands out to slap yours as you cycle past, great fun! Another highlight was the boat and Halong Bay, it coincided with my birthday, the weather was clear and we had the boat just for our group, food was fabulous and they even carved me a "happy birthday" melon .... amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chi was an excellent group leader, nothing phased him and he had a permanent smile on his face. His English was excellent and his knowledge of Vietnam was superb. He was very tolerant and didn't mind how many times we asked "is it flat?"

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the heat and humidity. It's easy to get laundry done on a several occasions, so you don't need too much cycle gear.

Mont Blanc Highlights

We enjoyed the trip. The food prepared was fantastic! Our group leader was very nice but we felt that he wasn’t as engaging as other leaders on other trips that we have been on.

Most Inspirational Moment

When we took the gondola up the

Thoughts on Group Leader

As I've previously stated we felt that he was not engaged in the trip as he could have been.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is a challenging hike. Don't let the 'moderate' ranking fool you.

Cycling Vietnam

Vietnam is a fantastic country.
Exploring by bike is a great way to be immersed in the sights, smells, atmosphere of a new culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming in a cove at Halong bay and being woken by the most dramatic thunderstorm that reverberated around the islands.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We couldn't have asked for more from a group leader. Danh was organised with an exceptional attention to detail. His knowledge of his country was outstanding, with an endless enthusiasm and ability to impart this. As a group we felt thoroughly looked after. This was helped by a fantastic bike support team, who provided us with an abundance of smiles and snacks. Danh's intimate knowledge of his country brought us to places that we would never have found alone. Great family restaurants and an egg coffee being examples of this.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Quality snacks provided whilst riding, you really don't need to bring your own. Camelbak not necessary, as stops are frequent and if you go in the summer it really is too hot to wear one. If like me your knowledge of Vietnam is somewhat sparse, it would be a good idea to do some research before you go so that you have some context in which to put the abundance of information that will be offered to you!

Cycling in Greece

A great trip with a mix to keep everyone happy. The support team were excellent and there was never a dull moment.

Most Inspirational Moment

Taking a plunge in the sea following a day of riding and just before dinner..... heaven on earth.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Advice for Potential Travellers

Think about adding a few days to explore Athens as there is lots to see.

Kilimanjaro Rongai Route

Wow, this trip was amazing!

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the summit! It was the toughest challenge I've ever experienced, but it was absolutely worth it to stand at the highest point in Africa. The memories will last a lifetime.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Makeke was great, and he was supported by an incredible team. I really don't think I would have made the summit without them.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This was a very demanding trip. Training in the run-up is essential. Be prepared for a huge amount of walking on summit night/day with very little rest.

Mont Blanc Highlights

Just returned home from this fantastic trip. We had fabulous weather which made it even more enjoyable. The scenery and views were brilliant and worth every puff and upward step to reach the top to gain them.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the walks were wonderful, the one that really stood out for me was travelling through the Mont Blanc Tunnel into Italy and then walking up to the Bonatti Refuge and being rewarded with a cup of hot chocolate ( which I have to say is the best I have ever tasted).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mark was very knowledgeable and explained each walking day in detail the night before so we knew what to expect. He was friendly with everyone and pointed out things of interest along the way with amusing stories and anecdotes, keeping us entertained. His 'Alpine Shuffle' kept us all together and enabled all of our group to achieve the assents and descents ensuring nobody was left behind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I feel that not only do you require a general level of fitness as the brochure states, but ideally, you should also be a regular hill walker as the assents could be challenging for some and descents tiring at the end of the day. This should not put anyone off of this wonderful trip as long as you are confident of your ability.

Wonderful Greek Experience

A truly wonderful trip. Just the right combination of cycling, great swim opportunities and culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

The many coastal routes where blue sky met azure seas providing the perfect inspiration to pedal. Wonderful warm blue seas to swim in at the end of most days. Seeing the Acropolis at sunset.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Yannis did a really great job. He is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about Greece, has a great sense of humour and loves cycling too. He was ably assisted by Dimitris and Costas. They made a great team and looked after us well, nothing was too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The inclines are many but gradual which made the uphill sections seem quite manageable with plenty of snack stops along the way.
