September moonstone

A great trip with good company.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking down at Machu picchu from the sun temple and standing at 4800 metres and looking at the world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was excellent. Very informative and good company for the walk.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be aware that some of the paths can be narrow at times.

Walking in the Greek Islands

Overall a very enjoyable trip. Visiting 3 islands made the week seem longer and more varied. The walks were generally leisurely but there were a couple of hills which we climbed in the hottest part of the day, but that could not be avoided. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Santorini walk from Fira to Oia. Walking on the volcanic island. Plus the beautiful walk on Naxos through olive groves and in the hills.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cecile was wonderful; she got things just right, and was good company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Some walkers found the hills, and loose scree a little challenging. Some had poles which helped. So maybe consider taking poles if you are unsure.

Cycle the Baltics

Just as explained in the brochure enhanced by our wonderful tour leader, Simon. From the fairy-tale castles, westernised beauty of Talinn we cycled through lush forested paths to Riga and the wonderful Old Town of Vilnius. It was eerie actually being in a spot where the Iron Curtain once was and having it brought to mind how close the Russian bear actually lurks.
Our guide was able to explain to us the sad history of the Baltic nations on one hand and the resilience of a most beautiful wonderful people on the other. A great group of fellow cyclists led to the enjoyment of delicious food, eclectic B&B s and an amazing culture.

Most Inspirational Moment

Feeling the resilience and hope of such wonderful people in countries historically neglected by the Western democracies. The passion of our tour leader Simon and our wonderful guide, Ira.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Simon, was extraordinary. In all instances he went beyond the call of duty to make everyone feel like a valuable member of our group and as such our group's convivial nature was enhanced. Simon told us wonderful tales of Lithuanian folklore and he even sang for us in his rich voice. Simon took in consideration the weather etc and was ready to alter situations as per daily requirements, if necessary. He went out of his way to find us local tour guides in Riga and Vilnius who passionately (especially in Riga) recounted the history of their country as we toured each country's respective Old Town. Simon was probably the greatest reason the trip was such a success.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Even though terrain was definitely leisurely- moderate, the most proficient cyclist of our group admitted the history and positives of the cycle far our weighed the lack of challenge. Nevertheless, we had great fun enjoying the fun a flat our fun cycle on a relatively flat terrain. Go - enjoy the culture, food and history of the Baltic Nations.

Namibia

A great trip. Very varied landscapes and great wildlife viewing.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing wild cheetahs, mother and two cubs, giraffes, elephants, a leopard, great bird watching with a really good guide (Ronney). Making it up Dune 45 for the sunrise - not as easy as I thought it would be. Lots of other great moments too.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ronney was great. Very organised, incredibly knowledgeable, very patient with all my questions and made sure everything went as smoothly as he could. Our cook Jonas, supported by Reuben, prepared some great meals too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

We went in September. No need for a mosquito net, but definitely needed a warm fleece and a windproof and a 3 season sleeping bag. Daytime though, a sleeveless t shirt and shorts were enough. Campsite facilities were good, better than East Africa I'm told. Be prepared for a couple of long driving days - up the Skeleton Coast for example - but there were photo stops and the odd coffee stop too. Back roads were not quite as good as I had been led to believe.

Highlights of the Dolomites

a superb walking area (exceeded my expectations) Good value for money with the standard of the hotel. The trip was well organised with top quality guides

Most Inspirational Moment

the walk on the final day which had a variety of different terrains to negotiate

Thoughts on Group Leader

excellent guide, friendly, sociable with a strong knowledge of the area

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just to make sure you bring enough clothes to allow for a range of weathers

Carpathian walking and bears

One of the best holidays we’ve been on, beautiful scenery, lovely walks, good food and company.

Most Inspirational Moment

It was a privilege to see the bears, and we loved Brasov, but really just the valley we were in and the walks we went on were the best bits. And the horse and cart ride!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Udo was an informative and entertaining guide. What this man doesn't know about flora and fauna isn't worth knowing!

Advice for Potential Travellers

We found walking poles very useful, but there were plenty to borrow if you don't have your own. The walking is rated correctly in my opinion, the most challenging day had an option of a shorter walk anyway. Be prepared for the fact that dogs live outside in this area and it's pretty noisy at night, ear plugs might be useful!

Lower zambesi

Did this last October, best value safari ever, and I’ve done a few. Excellent guide in TK, knows his way round those hippo pods. The boy Benjamin was fun too, and if I do this again I will ask for these two. Plenty game as the rains were due the following week so the beasts had to come to the river. Group size was perfect, 6 punters& 2 guides.
Do it!

Most Inspirational Moment

Having to repel an Elephant raid on the camp at night. I think someone had forgotten their instructions and left out some smelly orange peel.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very knowledgeable. Kept us safe without feeling bossed about. Plenty good fireside tales, fine bush cook, all round decent guy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Buy a couple of crates of beer at the supermarket when you stop outside Lusaka. It's dirt cheap. And anything else you might need because it's the last shop you visit for a few days.

Glad I Went

Everything about this trip went absolutely perfectly and we couldn’t be more pleased with the accommodations, food, hiking, service and organization.
If every Exodus tour is as good as this one then we longer will search for any other hiking vacation options.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hiking routes used during this tour were appropriately labelled as number 2 but that didn't mean they weren't beautiful and a little challenging. Following mostly well established hiking trails, we covered everything from local roads to flat cross country trails to cross mountain trails. The scenery was stunning, the air was pure and the experience amazing. We enjoyed every second of it.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Alexi, was everything you could ask for in a group leader. Experienced and highly qualified he was able to address any situation and made sure everyone was accommodated. Exodus take note: do not let this one get away!

Advice for Potential Travellers

My only advice for potential travellers is to go on this tour!

Orangutans, dragons, volcanoes and culture

The best bits of Indonesia in a whistle stop tour of this friendly and vared country.

Most Inspirational Moment

Encountering semi-wild and wild orangutans in their natural environment. Closely followed by boating around the islands of komodo national park to see the awesome dragons.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Always available and willing to help and sort out any problem however big or small. When food was served cold in one hotel, she could be heard berating the staff in the kitchen from the other side of the restaurant.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be ready for hot humid weather and some tough jungle treking to see the orangutans. However there were always plenty of guides to ensure everyone, from the sure footed to the less fit people were able to navigate all terrain. Indonesian food can be spicy and with lots of activities, a number of short haul flights and 2 days on a boat you should take along some immodium just in case. No Delhi belly in our group though. If you can a night or 2 in Kuala Lumpur or Singapore on the way out and an extra few nights in bali at the end will help spkit the long journey. If you can't, be ready for fast transfers at Kuala Lumpur airport. The trip is well worth the long journey though and don't let this put you off this amzing trip.

Petra & Wadi Rum by Bike holiday - 10th September 2016

A brilliant holiday experience made all the better by a great guide and very enjoyable fellow travellers

Most Inspirational Moment

The visit to Petra was the highlight of the holiday. Out guide, Zahair, lined us up in the siq - the narrow canyon leading to the ancient city, and with two paces to the left the wonderful iconic Treasury building was revealed in brilliant sunshine, in stark contrast to the dim and dark siq.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - wore his heart on his sleeve when it came to Jordanian history and the country of Jordan

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just go and enjoy it. It's a busy trip with little rest but very enjoyable
