The top of North Africa!

I took part in a private group’s 5 day trip climbing up Toubkal. From the moment you start climbing up through the Berber villages, traversing walnut tree groves and zigzagging into the hills, you are won over by the beauty of the Atlas mountains. Make no mistake, you have to work hard for the views, therefore sturdy boots and plenty of water are essential. Read the trip notes, as items such as a head torch are also non negotiable (I suspect the lady I saw wearing Ugg boots probably wasn’t an Exodus customer, as they gave us excellent preparation advice on what not to wear!). This jouney will challenge you physically and you do need a good level of fitness. Some parts are a bit rough, such as scrambling over boulders and scree, but the view from the top is breathtaking.

Most Inspirational Moment

I'm not a religious person at all, but watching one of the guides quietly praying on a rock surrounded by dawn mountains felt like I was inside a Khaled Hosseini novel.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Abdul was a legend with his local knowledge, patience and cheeky smile. Mohammad set the pace on the way down....you could tell he had done the climb 450 times!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get fit, break in new hiking boots well in advance and don't forget to sun screen your neck (1 week later mine still matches my fuschia bedroom curtains!)

Andes to Amazon

Every day a new world in Ecuador.
Each day showeda different face of the country, Rainforest, busy Towns, Wildlife, Farmlife and much more

Most Inspirational Moment

For me it was the walk at Chimborazo National Park. The barren landscape was like beeing in another world.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pablo was great. He knew history, biology and much mor of his country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walks at high places get very cold, don´t forget gloves. Moskito repellents on clothes is useful. Yoe dant´t need a Moskito Net.

Miss

Very glad I decided to do the trip, thoroughly enjoyed every moment of scenery, cycling, pleasant comfortable hotels, lovely boat and must say the train was definitely and experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling 18 miles down the mountain, amazing scenery

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lam really looked after us all impeccabley and was always smiling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't forget your water bottle to fix onto your bike

Totally amazing week spent in the Picos

The Picos is a fantastic area with wonderful scenery and mountain terrain. To walk in the Picos was a great way to see the area and get up and close to the peaks. The hotel was great with a lovely terrace bar over-looking the valley and peaks and it was a great way to end the day with a beer in hand here (who needs telly). The food at the hotel was amazing and the staff at the hotel went out of their way to ensure that all guests had a memorable experience – I know I did. I am vegetarian and did not struggle at all for food, the hotel caters for vegetarians and there was always a veggie option available – even packed lunches.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cares Gorge - it took my breath away....

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvero was just great, he has a kind, considerate and passionate attitude to everything that he does. He was always there for everyone in the group, from the slowest walker to the fastest walker. He knew the area and plants, animals, birds that lived there and would go into details explaining this.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do this trip, do not hesitate...I had an amazing week and could not find fault in anything. Everything was just perfect.

Walking the Picos de Europa

A haven for wildlife set in stunning scenery; sheer peaked mountains, deep rocky gorge, green pastures. Exceptional Leader. Well organised walks. One free day. Homely hotel and friendly, helpful staff. First-class evening meals, freshly cooked by proprietors, Jim & Pilar. Generous breakfasts and varied packed lunches, Fantastic shower.

Most Inspirational Moment

From mountainside watching two enormous Griffon Vultures silently riding the thermals. Spotting a Short-toed Eagle flying above us carrying a snake in its beak.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alvaro is an exceptional leader and natural teacher; passionate about the Picos, with a special interest in wildlife, he shared his knowledge appropriately not only with our group but with each individual, making time to get to know each person's interests. Breakfast briefings by Alvaro each day regarding weather, suitable clothing and water quantities to take were very useful. Each walk was carefully planned according to weather and trail conditions and pace managed; Alvaro gently encouraged those 'flagging' and directed those 'eating up kilometres' when necessary, moving quickly along our procession to ensure everyone was happy and had a sense of achievement at the day's end.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Not 'a walk in the park' because, at times, the terrain was challenging. Risk of vertigo at a few points. Pack for changeable mountain weather.

Peru all in one trip

Great reception. Clear instructions. Planned itineraries. Tickets in advance. The tedium of travel was minimised by smooth organisation, having tickets for attractions in advance, having transport waiting when needed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing a giant anaconda in the wild.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Great sense of humour. Clear instructions. Obviously motivated to make sure we all knew what was going on at any given moment.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book your own flights. The flights which came with our trip through exodus were via Sao Paulo which prolonged journey. Plus difficulties getting seats together on some flights.

Madagascar Moments!

What a fantastic trip. The country is just amazing with constantly changing scenery that was quite unexpected. The people took great delight in cheering us on and were only too happy to have their photos taken with the mad white people cycling in the heat of the day. The cycling was varied, undulations they call it, I call it hills! But the downhill was worth every uphill. One day was mainly off road so that was quite a challenge but very enjoyable. The hotels were brilliant, always had hot water and really nice rooms – much better than I anticipated. Also having 2 nights at several places was great. The seafood at Ifaty was fantastic as were the cocktails! The trip was graded as moderate when I booked but changed to moderate/challenging which is what I felt it was – but a great achievement finishing it in one piece. Madagascar is truly a wonderful country and still relatively undiscovered by tourists so cycling is the best way to really see it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Not sure about inspirational but cycling the off road bits has to be my favourite. I had not really done much of this and thoroughly enjoyed it. Especially as at the geysirs we treated ourselves to a well deserved leg massage.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tahina was one of the best leaders I have had on an Exodus trip. He encouraged the group to ride at their own pace, stop to take lots of photos and generally just enjoy themselves. Being at the back most of the time he was very supportive and kept us amused. He was always around to help and nothing was a problem for him. Cannot rate him highly enough and his knowledge was amazing.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take lots of snacks from home - museli bars, energy tablets and sweets. The lunches were normally things you had brought from the supermarket or baguettes from the hotel and this did become a bit too much bread for most people so that would be the only thing I would change.

gorillas and massai mara

Lets get one thing straight; you need to do this trip!! no matter where you’ve been and what you’ve seen there will always be a void in your portfolio unless you experience this. So much is included in such a small time period there is no time to get bored, all the I’s dotted and the T’s crossed for accommodation and service from the crew which were first class all the way, all building up to the gorilla trek which is so amazing words have not been invented which can express what I felt for that ever so short hour in their presence, but enough from me just go and experience it for yourselves.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Little Angels orphanage in Uganda. After a good walk we arrived at this wonderful place where I spent an incredible few hours in the presence of over 50 children who have not been dealt the best hand in life, but exhibit an attitude so positive that it really makes you feel humble and guilty about how you live your life and your attitude to the future even when you are holding 4 aces compared with them. The look on their faces when I stated blowing up balloons will never leave me and will always remain tattooed to my sole, a definite game changer with me moving forwards in my life

Thoughts on Group Leader

All 4 of the groovy gang where fabulous. Amos doing all the work no body sees, Ken driving an aircraft carrier through the tightest gaps and on the worst roads ever. Dan the man who can make a gourmet meal out of half a bag of spuds and a cows backside whilst camped by a lake, and Kip. Kip is the leader of the 4 and is without doubt the main man, the top dawg, the big cheese, in fact the Keizer Sose of the trip leaders fraternity. there was nothing he didn't know, nothing he wouldn't do for you no matter when or where it was, warm and funny and indeed a pleasure to be around, but his pool playing leaves a lot to be desired

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't over pack, the weather can alter but I took 15 pairs of socks and brought 14 back with me unused. go there with a can do attitude and an open outlook to everything and you'll have the time of your life. If it rains embrace it, if its muddy embrace it; its all part of the overall experience. Vital things to take are head torch, pillow, good sports sandals, water bottle, hand sanitizer and sun hat. All the rest is up to the individual

Walking in the Prosecco Hills

Pleasant walking, late September sunshine, plentiful food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finding a Prosecco vending machine on the side of a hill in the middle of nowhere. Italians have their priorities right!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bob knew the area very well and outlined each day in great detail beforehand, so we knew what to expect. We had a free day in Venice at the end of the tour too (as our flights were coming back in the evening rather than the usual morning flight) and he went above and beyond the call of duty, taking us to Venice airport, putting our luggage into storage, then getting us a return bus ticket into Venice, before accompanying us there and showing us to the water taxi.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for vast amounts of food at the hotel! The chef is a lovely old guy in his 80s who seems to see it as his duty to come and pile more food onto your plate at every opportunity. As most meals are 3-4 courses, there's no reason for seconds!

Inca Trail and the Amazon

Great trip made even better by a series of brilliant guides. To promote the trip to an Excellent rating I would suggest getting better, rainproof tents for the Inca Trail and giving us another tent to go and sit in after our evening meal – just for a while – rather than having to go to bed between 730 and 8pm. The porters clearly wanted to get in to the dining tent to get to bed and we felt guilty, so never let them linger. We also would have preferred and earlier flight back to Lima from Puno on the last day…we didn’t get to the hotel til 1am, but then had to up early for long flights home in the morning. It spoilt our last day together with our group. Must reiterate tho, apart from these 3 things our two weeks were fantastic. The jungle, the Inca Trail and Lake Titikaka were spectacular.

Most Inspirational Moment

Lots of inspirational moments. Fantastic views in the Andes, wonderful sights and sounds in the jungle, the hubbub of the cities and the calm of Lake Titikaka.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Cesar was a fun and efficient group leader.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a really strong insect repellent. My Jungle Formula didn't work at all.
