I don’t think there are any words to describe this trip. It by far exceeded expectations, incredible landscape, extremely friendly people and amazing food. If you’re thinking of doing this trip, stop thinking and just book! It’ll be one of the best things you’ve ever done.
I think there were a few great moments, the landscape at the end of the 100km day and the feeling of finishing it. Halong bay and the kayaking was so much fun and Halong bay is beautiful. Having clothes tailored in Hoi An was a lot of fun, make sure you take some pictures with you!
Lam was fantastic, really felt that he cared if we were having a good time. Was attentive to detail and made the effort to interact with the group and really got our humour.Also recommended some really good restaurants.
It's a very full on holiday so if you have the spare annual leave book a bit of time off when you get back. Use good sun screen. Don't pack too many clothes, you'll spend most of your time in cycling gear. If you have a good bike seat, take it with you!
First (but not last!) cycling holiday and WOW ! what a way to see a country. I have wanted to go to Vietnam for nearly 2o years and discovering Exodus allowed be to discover the whole of this beautiful country, meet some fantastic people whilst challenging my fitness and cycling skills. From start to finish, this trip was well thought through, the local support excellent and the country and people simply wonderful.
Lots and lots of things, the scenery of the country is just amazing. I guess the hardest day cycling was doing 70km uphill (took us 7 hours), knowing that you were about to do that was a bit foreboding, but eveyone supported everyone else and the motivated that came from all of the group kept us all going. Getting to the top and seeing the view down was pretty awesome. Freewheeling the 30km downhill was pretty amazing too!
Lam was superb, very information, great sense of humour, kept us all motovated and amused throughout our stay.
Take part in everything, stop and take pictures with the locals (they are very friendly). We saved al the toothbrushes etc that were put in our hotels along the way and gave them out in one of the poorest areas, the kids and parents alike were delighted.
The whole trip was amazing. The cycling was not too tough but we just went at our own pace when it did become a bit challenging. Take your camera and keep stopping… there’s plenty to take photos of.
All of it was excellent.The food throughout was both exciting and well cooked and the accomodation throughout was above expectations. Weather in July was good...not too hot and the rain was fun and refreshing...never cold.One highlight was riding water buffalo. A real laugh a minute. BRILLIANT!
Our group leader (Yan) and his co-workers were all of the highest standard. Friendly, informative, attentive and a wealth of knowledge about his country. Superb and could not be better from minute one at the airport to the last sad moment of farewell.
No need for malaria tablets. Take energy bars for the odd snack if you want but Yan kept us fed with loads of snacks and the home made lemon drink was fantastic.
A superb and diverse holiday and whilst the cycling was an important and preferred means of transport there was still a need for buses, boats, trains and planes to complete this intense journey.
Too many but Halong Bay probably was the most inspirational but surprisingly the cycles were not required! Yes, too many.

If you enjoy and in no particular order cycling, history, culture, people, fresh food, scenery, the great outdoors, cities then do it!
This was such a wonderful trip – everything was better than I’d expected from how well we were looked after, to the scenery, the food and the cycling.
Cycling downhill from the Hai Van Pass. Well worth the trip up there. Also drinking 50p ice cold beer in the hotel swimming pool on the beach after a particularly challenging day. Bliss.

Don't do this trip if you're a hard core cyclist and only want to power through to the end. Go if you want to enjoy the experience at the same time as enjoying some varied rides. I really valued taking a seat cover. I'd also recommend taking thin long sleaved tops and gloves. The sun was so strong and it was so hot that sun cream was pretty useless against the sweat. You need clothes for uv protection
An excellent way to see the sites, main cities and countryside of Vietnam. This is a comprehensive trip that includes most of the main cultural centres of the country. Cycling is a great way to get off the regular tourist trail and to see how the Vietmamese people live and work.
For me, visiting a Third World country is best accommplished on a bicycle. However, well meaning you are, if you use a vehicle you will always appear as a 'tourist'. When you ride into a village or town, dusty and dirty on a bike you are approachable and friendly. The local people may think you are nuts to ride a bike when you could use a vehicle but you are definitely 'one of us' not 'one of them'.Seeing Vietnam on a mountain bike was a great joy. I am old enough to remember the Vietnam War and back then I never thought for one moment that I would one day have the opportunity to visit the country and be welcomed by the people I met.
Excellent. A genuinely nice person. 'Bonded' with the Group very quickly and successfully.Very helpful, he did everything to make the holiday pleasant and totally successful. Very well organised.
If you want to go to Vietnam, go soon before the country develops. Along the coast the first resorts and golf clubs are being build. I have the feeling that in a few years Vietnam will have changed its character and probably not for the better. Vietnamese drivers retain the old French road customs and expect you to give way to the right; that is correct, I haven't mixed up my directions. Motor bikes and cars drivers emerge from side roads without looking left and are surprised if those on the main road are not overly pleased.
A brilliant way to see an amazing country and learn the non Holywood version of its troubled History
The reaction of the Vietnames as we cycled through there country, lots of high fives and smiles as we went through some amazing scenery and vibrant villages. The villagers made us all feel welcome and very special.
Chi was great, kept us on an even keel and enhansed our trip and always with a smile.
If you do a little cycle fitness training the cycling will be no problem. Don't be put off by the traveling times on the bus as at the beginning of the day an hour to digest breakfast is good and after a days cycling in the heat most of us were asleep for the late afternoon transfer.We cycled as individuals but the stronger cyclists helped the others, remember its a holiday not a race so enjoy the country and the people.
Still digesting the whole experience. Sights, sounds. tastes, new peronal best with cycling distance and height climbed. Warmth of the Vietnamese people especially in the south.Touched by the kindness and support from the stronger cyclists to the weaker cyclists in our group.
Completing the 10km climb with the support, encouragement and a little help from my new found friends. Cycling down was awesome, as was the 30km down hill too a few days earlier. The views were amazing.My cheeks aching with laughter on the 8 hour train journey to Hanoi. Relaxing at Halong bay a lovely end to the trip.
Commited, informative, proffesional, fun, interesting, his recommendations re restaurants were 5* and meeting his family and having lunch was an extra bonus.
Take old tshirts socks etc and discard at the end of the trip Deet ruins clothes and whites become anything but. Also old towel to discard and give you extra room for souvenirs.Get training as the terrain is 'undulating' and in the heat humidity the more training the better.
Phenomenal tour with first class organisation. The cycling is excellent and anyone who is reasonably fit will manage it. Vietnam is beautiful, hectic, peaceful, serene, overbearing and friendly all at once.
Too many to count. Each day you got up, had an amazing time which you thought couldn't be bettered yet the next day somehow managed to! Cycling the Hai Van pass, kayaking and 6am swim in Halong Bay and Hoi An were particular favourites of mine however the show stopper was the 35km descent from 5500ft to sea level after Dalat. Just - wow. 40mph+ down switchback roads on a mountain bike whilst overtaking the motorized vehicles!
Chi simply made the holiday. Informative, funny, a beast on the bike! The support staff (buss driver, truck driver, mechanic) were also first class.
Vietnam is dirt cheap so you won't need a lot of spending money. Take some US dollars in cash (new, pristine notes) with you Bring padded shorts!
