National Parks walk

The content of this trip was excellent and we had a very good holiday. There were a few minor deficiencies however, mostly concerning information/communication….. We travelled with others who had booked through Grand American Adventures and they appear to have been better served: they arrived earlier in Las Vegas and had time to explore the city whereas we had time only for a quick dash in, despite the trip notes listing day 1 as a city day. We arrived at the hotel at 6.00pm, just in time for the briefing. We were advised that our guide would expect tips of $5-7 per person per day but we were surprised to hear that there were two guides and they expected $10 per day each. As a couple, therefore, we paid $400 which was way above budget. There were other minor ‘annoyances’ … we were told that no meals were included but our GAA were told some breakfasts were included. We were left unsure but caught on eventually and gained a couple of meals! The Alexis Park was disappointing: they took 1 hour to collect us on arrival, the room was shoddy (and the door lock fell off) and it is a good 15 mins brisk walk to town. We thought we might also have been dropped at the airport for our return flight, as we passed the door, rather than return to the Alexis Park and immediately return to the airport. Sedona, the last minute addition to the itinerary, was very nice and we felt we could have made more of the walking opportunities there. A short town tour and lie by the pool was all that was needed!

Most Inspirational Moment

The helicopter ride over Grand Canyon is (ridiculously) expensive but not to be missed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Both leaders were unreservedly excellent in all aspects.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Check the details and check the real costs.

A great Group tour!

Jordan has spectacular sights and friendly people, despite turmoil in the region it felt very safe.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved trekking over the craggy hills to approach the treasury in Petra from above! (Optional) Also had a great meal out in a Bedouin cave!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khalid was very sensitive to the groups wishes. He arranged some tasty meals out but advised those who wanted to make their own arrangements. He was happy to talk frankly about regional politics. He is clearly proud of his country.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get to Jordan now, its a nation you have to see but the regional politics may make it harder in the future. If going to Petra at night do it before you see it by day…it doubles the wonder!

Spectacular Peru

For anybody who wishes to see the sights of southern Peru this trip covers it all

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many highlights but the day that stood out the most was the day we left Nasca and made our way through the Andes. The changing scenery and amazing views were something to behold.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Leo the legend. Leo is a very good tour leader, speaks very good english, is very knowledgable about the areas that we visited, is very efficcient in his organisation, willing to participate with the group but was not obtrusive.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Two quite long days on the tour but take them in your stride and treat these days as just part of the adventure. Plenty of opportunity to take care of laundry when you arrive in Cusco.

cycling the cape

the views are fantastic the cycling is good but I was a bit disappointed with the tour guide he either wanted to cook for us or take us to a restaurant of his choice so we never had a chance to look around the towns we visited. It would have been nice to have a choice a few evenings just to do your own thing .

Most Inspirational Moment

The highlight was seeing the Right Whales. Was one of the most beautiful places I have visited

Thoughts on Group Leader

I think he needs a change

Advice for Potential Travellers

Watch out for the strong winds

Discover Chile

A brilliant trip for anyone who loves a variety of outdoor locations from desert to snowy volcano to green forest to, well – more.

Most Inspirational Moment

Full of inspirational moments - geysers at dawn, a truly photogenic volcano, the magnificent Torres del Paine and even a monument to the wind near Punta Arenas.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Maria, in my view, was an excellent group leader - almost tirelessly translating for the group at meals and more than willing to assist with some of the silly little problems that can crop up when travelling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

(1) Remember that this trip involves quite a lot of flights. (2) Check the local cost of optional excursions compared to the cost charged by Travel Art (Exodus's local operator) before you sign up. (3) Check that your 'universal' adaptor is sufficiently universal to cover Chile (I wasn't the only one caught by this). (4) If doing Easter Island, Peso is better than dollars - ensure you have enough before you go there; you will get better rates. (5) If your flights are being booked by Exodus and you are travelling from the UK, be aware that the connecting flight from Heathrow to Madrid may well be 'budget' in nature - i.e. ALL refreshments at extra cost. This can matter if your flight is at, say, dinner time.

Sierra de Aitana Trek in Spain

I thoroughly enjoyed the holiday. Good walking, good weather, good company and excellent food.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the summit of Puig Campana on the last day.jj

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose is a great leader. He is so knowledgeable, enthusiastic and efficient. He also made our lunches!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Drink plenty of water as the weather can be very hot.

LAND OF THE TIGER

WE HAD A MOST WONDERFULL TRIP AND SAW 7 TIGERS SOME AT DISTANCE AND TWO AT WATERHOLES WE HAVE GREAT PICTURES OF THEM FOR OUR FUTURE REFERENCE AND TO REMIND US OF JUST HOW WONDERFULL THE TIGERS ARE.SADLY WE WERE NOT PLEASED ON ONE OF THESE SIGHTINGS THERE WERE 17 JEEPS ALL TRYING TO PUSH AND SHOVE TO GET BEST PICTURE. THIS HAS TO HAVE AN AFFECT ON THE TIGERS SURELY THERE SHOULD BE BETTER POLICING OF THE JEEPS AS WE WERE TOLD ONLY 5 AT A TIME .CAN UNDERSTAND WANTING TO GET GOOD PICTURES BUT NOT AS TO AFFECT THE TIGERS.

Most Inspirational Moment

TIGERS DRINKING AT WATERHOLES

Thoughts on Group Leader

HE WAS GREAT. IT IS A VERY DIFFICULT JOB HE HAS TO DO BUT HE HANDLED IT VERY WELL .

Advice for Potential Travellers

NOT REALY JUST GO WITH OPEN MIND AND BE LUCKY

Walking The Great Wall, October 2014

A fantastic experience, and amazing to see the wall snaking away into the distance as far as the eye could see. Certainly a worthy inclusion in any list of the Worlds’ man made wonders. Very well worth adding the Xian extension to see the Terracotta Warriors and the city itself.

Most Inspirational Moment

The obvious ones of seeing the wall and the warriors, but there are plenty of other sights as well - particularly The Forbidden City, riding around the city walls of Xian, and walking through the atmospheric and hectic street food stalls in the Muslim Quarter of Xian.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Kevin was superb. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He made sure that everyone was happy with all aspects of the trip including the food (including for vegetarians and vegans), the accommodation, the walking, and any other arrangements. He was a mine of information and gave us a great insight into China's history - both ancient and modern.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take the Xian extension if you can afford the cost and the time. It really made the trip complete, and somehow without it, the trip would have been too short - for me at least. The accommodation is basic but perfectly acceptable. Don't expect great variety in the food, but equally don't be put off by comments about water snails, sparrows or dog - our food was very acceptable, and we didn't have any of those ingredients (as far as I know!!). Go to the acrobatic show which was amazing, and also the cultural show in Xian - they are both great nights and worth the money.

Undiscovered Atlas

A little blast of sunshine, exercise, stunning scenery and friendship forming to escape the November weather in the UK (although, the wind and cold on the first night did make me wonder if I’d chosen the right trip but it just got better and better in every way.)

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of each peak or pass and taking in the 360 degree views. Then getting down again. Encountering the friendly local people; taking boots off and dipping feet into irrigation channels to cool down, lazy lunches in oases, coming across goat herds clinging to the side of mountains with ease, staring into the campfire, banter, a full body wash in the slightly slimey pool at the final camp, a peaceful smoke on a rock with the sun setting, banter (I know I've said that twice!)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hicham and his whole team were lovely. He was very kind, had a sense of fun and took his job seriously. Personally, I think two guides for such a big group (16) would help everyone's enjoyment, no matter where you were in the trekking order.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take wicking layers, something really warm for evenings and a sense of humour; loved the cup suggestion from someone earlier; sweets to suck on whilst walking (Werthers were blooming marvellous!); nip and/or quiz for the evenings (some of our group did this and it was FAB).

Patagonia Highlights

Having just returned from this trip, I would highly recommend it for others wanting to see the highlights of Patagonia. The scenery was beautiful and the walks (especially the one in Torres del Paine) was fantastic, despite seeing four seasons of weather in one day!

Most Inspirational Moment

Torres del Paine National Park - I'd love to return to do more walks in it. Perito Moreno Glacier - was spectacular The Malbec wine and huge steaks!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Xavier was a excellent guide. He was easy going and everything was very well organised. He was extremely informative and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of waterproof and wind proof clothes. Take lots of $, as the ATM machines are not very reliable and the banks went on strike when we were in Ushuaia! If you can afford the time, I would recommend getting to Buenos Aires a few days before the tour starts or after it finishes, as it's a great city to spend extra time in.
