Birthplace of so much great music

For much of my life I’ve enjoyed the musical genres originating in the Southern US. What this trip did was to put it all together – the evolution of music set against the political and economic history of the area. Fascinating and enjoyable.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to pick one. Preservation Hall and Grand Ole Opry were musical highlights. The Civil Rights Museum was so moving - located at the motel where MLK was assassinated - and very comprehensive. The Country Music Hall of Fame was worth at least half a day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jay quite simply, made the trip. The bus journeys were enlivened with his knowledge and fabulous playlist designed to accompany the history and progression of musical styles as we journeyed north. He joined in the group banter in the bus, drove safely, worked hard, unloading and loading luggage, and was very helpful at ferrying us around even to optional activities.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book ahead for Preservation Hall and the Grand Ole Opry. Some of our group were disappointed not to get in or be seated r standing at the very back. The food was not to my taste - deep fried pecan pie anyone? And vegetables were hard to find with limited choice. I bought supplies at a health food store for my lunches (there was an ice box in the bus) Some prices were a shock . My last night dinner (1 course with veg and 2 glasses average wine) was $62 - then with sales tax, 20% obligatory gratuity and an extra tip for kitchen staff, the final bill was $93. The trip notes suggestions for tips for the guide are way out, considering that he drove, hauled luggage, saved us some taxi fares. $12-$15 pp per day is a more like it. Given the shocking amount of plastic waste (polystyrene plates and plastic cutlery) you might want to consider taking some travel cutlery with you.

Amazing adventure

I would definitely recommend this cycling adventure.

Most Inspirational Moment

The extraordinary coastline and breathtaking views around every corner of the beautiful Atlantic ride are priceless!

Thoughts on Group Leader

All the leaders were professional, thoughtful and caring .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do this ride!

Loved this one..

This country is so diverse and exodus shows you that from the start! We started on the Caribbean side at Tortuguero and basically got soaked the whole 3 days we were there, it rained and it rained but our group got on with it with a smile. That area would have been wonderful if the weather hadn’t been against us but it was what it was!
We still suffered a bit of bad weather at Arenal and i never got to see the volcano as the cloud was on top of it all the time, the walk was lovely up to it though and the landscape is beautiful.
The weather started to improve as we travelled over to the pacific side , the birds and the wildlife are abundant , we saw that many sloths on this trip we stopped taking pictures of them ha
There are some long drives in this trip but never more than a couple of hours on the road without stopping, lots of views to look at and of course we stopped if the driver or guide saw anything interesting to see as well, (a couple of macaw’s were spotted and we pulled over to get some great photos)
The wildlife is all around you if you take the time to look, the leaf cutter ants and the ant highways through the forest floor , the frogs , the sloths… so much to see!
Whilst you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic for this trip , i would suggest that you are able to walk long distances and tackle some steep slopes. You can always sit by the pool if you don’t want to go on the hikes but you would miss out on the whole point of the holiday if that is what you aim to do.
Exodus pull it out the bag every time with the accommodation , all the rooms were lovely and well chosen , its one of the reasons i have booked with Exodus 4 times now.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the boat trip, the birds were fantastic to spot and we saw turtles and crocodiles as well. Also the Esquinas Rainforest Lodge was the most basic room of the trip but the best location , you are surrounded by forest , the birds and the wildlife are wonderful and a dip in the pool in the middle of it all was so special.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pedro was very knowledgeable and passionate about his country and what they are doing towards tourism and re-forestation.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take good walking shoes , something that will dry out because you are likely to get them wet, and a fold up rain jacket that goes in your bag. Plugs were American type plugs. I got an e sim and it was a great idea, i had internet all the time and signed into wifi at the lodges ( which were all wifi friendly) I took colonies but everyone accepted dollars , in fact it seemed to be the best form of money, your cards are accepted at all the restaurants its only for tips and small venders that you need cash. Even though it rained i still wore shorts as it was better to have wet legs than wet trousers ha ha and its still hot!

An unforgettable winter adventure

The Dolomites are a beautiful region and this trip is a fun way to explore it by skii. The itinerary struck a perfect balance between physical activity and relaxation. Each day offered scenic ski routes through pristine, snow-covered landscapes—peaceful forests, frozen lakes, and charming alpine villages. Our guide Michele was not only highly skilled and knowledgeable about the terrain but also enthusiastic and encouraging, making the experience enjoyable for skiers of all levels. Whether you were a first-timer or an experienced skier, you felt supported and challenged in all the right ways.

The hotel was cozy and we ate delicious meals—exactly what you want after a day on the trails.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to ski in the same arena as the Olympians at the Nordic Arena in Dobbiaco! There were even some teams training there whilst we were there it was very cool!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michele was amazing, his knowledge of the area was great and he was very good at planning our days and decided what valley or track was best to go depending on the weather.

Advice for Potential Travellers

it is so worth trying if you want to learn a new activity and you don't need previous experience just a good level of fitness! you do a lot of different tracks so will get to try different things throughout the week. bring layers as it can get warm and waterproof shoes for your day off so you can go for some nice walks to the other towns!

Highlights of Turkey

I got back from this trip 5 days ago. Everything was great! I don’t know where to start with my rave reviews. Our group leader was Ilham and he was amazing! His English was great and he helped us with translation at the restaurants and vendors. I loved stopping to eat at very local and family places. One place for Turkish pizzas had the whole family pitching in and we were outside near the brick oven with chickens and ducks running past us! I really appreciated that our money went to LOCAL and FAMILY run businesses! Ilham would download the tickets to the sites on his phone in advance, he made our entry so quick. He was always one step ahead of the game! Logistics were flawless, because he knew when to get to the various sites to avoid the crowds as much as possible. I enjoyed the modest hotels, once again family run and usually very convenient to the town center. This trip fulfilled all my expectations and then some! Ed

Most Inspirational Moment

Sitting in a mosque in Istanbul when it was nearly empty. The call to prayer was soothing and reassuring.

ATH Highlights of Turkey

Outstanding Tour — visiting important military, historical, cultural, and religious sites. Wonderful group of travelers who watched out for each other, were on time, courteous and kind.

Most Inspirational Moment

Swimming in the Mediterranean Sea

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ilhan was a great group leader. Smart, engaging and patient, he kept us safe, on time, and informed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is classified as "easy" but you'll definitely get your 10K daily steps in and many of those will be up and down stairs. Perfect for the traveler interested in Greco/Roman/Ottoman architecture, artifacts, history and ruins.

A memorable cycle and culinary adventure from Porto to Lisbon enjoying the beautiful cycle paths along the Atlantic Ocean and through the forests!

We arrived in Porto a few days before the tour to enjoy the ambience of the city before meeting up with our group on 13 April 2025 at the Neya Hotel on Sunday afternoon! From the start of the presentation of what to expect over the next 5 days of cycling to the 2 final group dinners, this was an exceptional tour with an exceptional team of tour guides and we had the most incredible time with our fantastic group of 16. Joào Colaco’s management of the rides, coffee breaks and lunch stops and post ride updates and what to expect the next day were perfect! I wanted to experience a cycle along the Atlantic coast enjoying the local cuisine and culture and this cycle checked all those boxes and then some! A surprising bonus was that the dinner recommendation for the 1st night was so good, we all opted in for the remaining dinner recommendations each evening as we could experience the most authentic local cuisine and unique locations in each of the towns!

Most Inspirational Moment

Final cycle from Sào Pedro de Moel via Nazare to Obidos! It was Good Friday and we arrived in Nazaré thoroughly soaked by the morning rain, but it was fine as we had our coffee break at Terrasse, where you can definitely find the best Pastel de Nata's in the country! After the coffee break we enjoyed the wonderful beach views before setting off to be dried by the wind and have a good lunch with a lake view before setting off for our last cycle to the medieval town of Óbidos.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Joâo Colaco was an incredible leader providing us with the right balance of information we needed for each day. Joâo Colaco's dinner recommendations made for a very good group experience and he led us on walking tours at the start and end of the trip with many stops en route sharing information on geography or produce, etc. He also shared tips on places to go to and restaurants to visit after our tour ended in Lisbon which made our overall Portugal experience one we are still raving about!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Half of our group were on ebikes and the other half on hybrids and it worked just fine as we had a very collaborative group of 16. I had the hybrid bicycle and needed the van transfer on day 4 of 5 for the last 20 km to be strong for the final day of 64 km. For level 2 and higher, I will take an eBike in the future as it will make it a more fun experience on the hills. Our guide at the back, Ricardo Ferreira was very patient and ensured we were on track with the front cyclists. Our awesome support driver, Filipe Ribeiro was always contributing in many different ways from loading luggage to having the van available at our stops if we wanted to grab anything from our backpacks! Thanks to Exodus for having local guides who share the love of their country with all of us!

An Excellent introduction to the region of Puglia

This was an excellent way to explore Puglia, the towns of Matera, Alberobello, Ostuni and Lecce all were fascinating and atmospheric yet different. The hotel accommodation was in the town centers in the first three locations and was very good. The cave house and the trullo being a real experience. Accommodation in Lecce was a real disappointment. It was located on a ring road about a 25-minute walk from the center and was a basic business class hotel very few facilities. Our room was bright orange (think Easy Jet) and small, breakfast was limited compared to the previous hotels. Altogether a poor finish to a good experience.

Most Inspirational Moment

A difficult choice as we had many. You do need to explore by yourself once the guide has left and be prepared for a lot of walking on uneven steep surfaces. The Museo Archeologico Faggiano in Lecce was fascinating and maybe should be added onto the itinerary.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Unfortunately, our original group leader was not available due to being ill. We were met in Matera and walked up to our hotel by a very helpful lady (I cannot remember her name) who recommended some restaurants for the evening. Our group leader would join us the next day and would be available from 1.30pm. Unfortunately, he did not arrange a briefing session and spoke to the group members individually, who received slightly different information. This continued throughout the trip and while being very pleasant, approachable and put in a lot of effort , resorted to Wikipedia for information and generally did not have the in-depth knowledge of the area that we have been accustomed to from Exodus guides.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try to avoid the Italian holidays Lecce in particular was very busy. Ensure that you have sturdy comfortable footwear, there is a lot of walking required to get the best out of the trip

Excellent Adventure

We rode from Porto to Lisbon, roughly 40 miles a day. It was a wonderful way to experience the coastal towns between these two fabulous cities. It did rain every day but with expert leaders we managed to navigate the rain and keep to our schedule, and still enjoy the stops along the way. I appreciated that the itinerary was well organized. The food was wonderful and Portugal is a beautiful country with a rich history that most international travelers are not familiar with.

Most Inspirational Moment

The stretches of road that were right next to the ocean - amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic. Always well organized, articulate, a good sense of humor and a very kind person. Also kept us on task notwithstanding the rain! All three of our guides - Joao, Ricardo and Filipe were all a pleasure to travel with - kind, helpful and good company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring layers and clothes for rain - a good raincoat and rain pants if you have them!

A Magical Two Weeks

A well planned itinerary circumnavigating the island to visit the major sites with the odd dart inland for even more. The minibus was comfortable, as were the hotels, which came in a variety of sizes and styles that added to the experience. Most were right in the heart of their communities, so there was never far to walk for sightseeing or amenities, such as restaurants. Apart from a brief period of Saharan wind and sand, we had perfect weather for sightseeing, sunny but not too hot. We enjoyed everywhere we went.

Most Inspirational Moment

We found all the sites we visited inspiring in their own way, from the temples to the towns and their churches. We didn't feel we missed out on anything, or that any of the sites were merely padding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Tiziano was about as good a guide and companion as you could get. His enthusiasm for his country shone through and we never felt lacking in information or advice. We applaud his attempts to reduce the use of plasic and paper, for instance, by pointing out safe local water sources to fill our bottles. The local guides were also excellent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Because of the local siesta culture, we found some of the places we wanted to visit on our free afternoons closed. It was never more than a minor irritant, especially as there was so much to see just by wandering.
