I had the most fabulous time! I met an amazing bunch of people, saw some beautiful sights and came home relaxed and recharged. It took me quite a while to come back down from this one!!
There were so many inspirational moments - white water rafting, seeing & hearing the howler monkeys, giggling all the way down a very long descent in hot rain on my bike, visting the hot springs near Fortuna, relaxing at Mystica (very beautiful), snorkelling around Bocas, cocktails with my travelling companions, going for a swim in an Olympic Size Pool in the middle of no here on my own @ 5:30am with palm trees gently swaying and deer watching beside the pool ........amazing................The Hacienda Hotel is undoubtedly the most colourful place I have ever stayed at in my entire life!!
Rob our group leader was a fantastic guide, as were his colleagues Paul, Brit & Ronaldo. Rob, Paul & Brit are all very keen experienced cyclists and knew exactly how to pace our group. They were all great company all of the time, not just when we were on the bikes. We did not want for anything. Ronaldo was just wonderful - always appearing at just the right time with sliced pineapple & melon whenever we needed it!!
Take lots of quick drying cycling clothes that you can wash out while you are moving from hotel to hotel. There is a laundry service available but not at every location.Baby wipes are handy when you are hot and sweaty..........
Two weeks cycling through 3 amazing countries, getting a glimpse of the culture, seeing some wonderful sights and tasting delicious food.
The temple complexes at Angkor Wat. My favourite temple which you don’t hear much about or see many pictures of is the Bayon temple with lots of gigantic 4 faced stone heads. It is truly amazing and so difficult to capture on camera.
Nee did a fantastic job looking after the whole group, making sure we were OK, that we hadn’t forgotten anything, getting the food orders right in the restaurants, etc. She always had a smile on her face and was always willing to help with whatever problems or questions you might have. She was a great cyclist too and was happy to lead at the front or accompany some of the slower riders (like me). Also the fruits and snacks provided during the breaks were exceptional. I had the best mango I’ve ever tasted and I’m glad a tried all the other exotic fruit I’d never seen before. My personal favourite was the dragon fruit. Yum!
Whilst crossing the borders by bike is quite exciting, it is also very bureaucratic and takes quite a long time. Think hours not minutes. The mattresses on the beds are REALLY hard. There is a long wait at KL airport for the retun flight to London but there is a reasonable amount of places to shop, eat, drink, sit, etc.
We thought that Sri Lanka is simply amazing. Our guide Sampath Kulatunge was the best we have ever had in any of our travels. All of the people of Sri Lanka seem to be open, friendly but shy. We climbed Adams peak on New Years Day and everbody was telling us "Good Morning & Happy New Year".
Going to the Tooth Temple. It was the most peaceful religious site we have ever visited.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Always with a smile and a song.
There is little or no chance to do laundry. When we were there is rained 12 of 14 days so things got wet and stayed wet. Put newspaper in your shoes/boots to dry them.
Our first time walking abroad in a group ,but we needn,t have been apprehensive as it worked out fine.
Without doubt the trip to Vesuvious and walk round crater, awesome! The walk down to Amalfi through the woods was the highlight of the varied walks. Also, even in the off season Amalfi, Ravenelo and Positano were busy without being crowded,( Except the 5.30pmBus up to Bomerano from Amalfi-always packed!
Albert was great,so laid back he was almost horizontal ! But ensured we were all sorted on our day off etc.
Go for it,we were a mix of couples, male singles and female singles and it gelled well. We were incredablylucky with weather, sunshine every day and just rain twice overnight, but be warned if sun not shining its chilly!Local Sieta buses are easy to use so if you want to explore, just remember to have your ticket before boarding.
Great place to go: cheap, warm, safe, wonderful scenery and interesting culture. Brilliant challenging itinerary.
Equally, the ascent of Adams Peak and whale watching. Eating in local houses.
Excellent guide who made every effort to respond to the group's requests and interests and spent much time getting us to experience and understand local cultureOur drivers were excellent as well, friendly, helpful, patient and safe
Finish with a few days' beach holiday at Mirissa - Hotel Paradise Beach, brilliant place.Don't rely on clothes drying quickly or it being dry - you need plenty of light clothes and a decent umbrella
Petra had been on my list for years: it surpassed my expectations. The time in the desert was a revelation. Dec/Jan a good time to go weatherwise.
Looking up from the campfire in the desert silence of Wadi Rum, watching shooting stars explode above our heads. or was it....the rhythmic motion of the camel padding across the sand as we rode out in the early morning.or was it....the sheer scale of Petra, and the way it marries natural wonders and human ingenuity.
Zuhair knows everything! I learnt so much about Jordan from ancient times until the present day.
Learn a few words of Arabic. Shukran = thank you, masalama = goodbye, laa = no (to sellers of bits of Petra stone, trinkets, postcards etc) Don't use a smile as a way of saying hello. Jordanians don't smile in that way.A hipflask in the desert night will win you many friends.
An excellent trip – a very well thought out itinerary and run at a good pace.Exodus staff could not have been more helpful in the planning stage and our first class tour guide(Anh Nguyen) ensured it was a really memorable holiday.
There were severalHalong Bay - very dramaticHoi An - the markets, the river and those magical lanternsNha Trang - lovely beach, and great trip to the islands and swimming from the boatMeekong Delta - a fascinating experience
Anh Nguyen was an excellent leader. He combined a very professional approach with the right degree of fun and good humour.Very knowledgeable too, nothing was too much trouble. He helped to make the holiday a fantastic experience.
Pack as light as you can and remember that(on this particular trip) you are never very far from the products that you need. The traffic - if you have not been here before then you must keep an eagle eye on itUntil you are acclimatised, you need your wits about you 24/7 ..!
Fabulous, relaxing trip in beautiful, tropical southern India.
Enjoyed the contrasting experiences of floating around the backwaters in the houseboat and then manic Madurai and the beautiful Sri Meenakshi Temple.
Lukose Thomas was a most efficient and friendly tour leader.
It is very hot and humid with lots of mosquitoes - make sure you take plenty of repellent and a plug for your room.
Fantastic week in a beautiful setting enjoying a taste of Finnish cuisine and a range of activities. This is a must for anyone who wants to try new things in a unique setting.
Waking through the Finnish landscape in snow shoes, making minimal noise. It's a great way to get about and if the uk winters were more snowy I may invest in a pair. You went through areas that would normally be inaccessible in other weathers. The dog sledding was amazing. The pack of dogs were noisy and I'm sure one of them was barking "come on, run" as they were so eager to get started. Once off and running they were silent, concentrating on the task of whizzing through the snowladen trees with you guiding them along the track. It was breathtaking. The snowmobile safari (optional activity) was great fun on especially along the section with moguls, it was like a roller coaster with you in charge of the speed.
Henri is a first class group leader. You can tell he loves his job and wants to share his knowledge with the guests. He embraces the outdoor lifestyle. His expert practical help and mythological stories, made for a fascinating and educational time. Henri and the rest of the team were patient, helpful and great fun. They certainly add to the experience!
As all of the clothing required for the activities is provided, you do only need to pack the clothes for evening. It is easy to overpack layers as the temperature can be cold. However the accommodation is warm and the main block, with reception and dining facilities is suitable, if lacking some sofas for reclining after strenous activities. Make use of the sauna and hot tub, it's great for those aching muscles. If the flights are to Oulo, this involves a four hour bus trip to the base camp and you lose some time. make sure the flights are to kuusamo. If this had been made clear I may have cancelled. Due to delays there were a few sprints to catch connecting flights.
