Wonderful trip!

The wildlife was amazing, the guide was the best, and we were very well taken care of at the lodges and campsites. It was a trip to remember (and maybe go back someday).

Most Inspirational Moment

The hot air balloon ride was definitely a highlight of the trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide was great at finding animals and had a wonderful presence.

Cycling

The brochure tells you about the scenery etc but until you get there whow! It’s a trip you must do the scenery ,roads and great guide will bring you to places you would never get to on another trip. Our guide ALan and driver Marion were great ensuring everyone was catered for. The first two day cycling a little challenging but after that it was down hill. We visited local areas off the beaten track tasted great food.Just a note when buying fish in restaurants just check it’s not sold by the weight! October a great time to go not too hot very pleasant for cycling and exploring villages.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring Kuna the will take euros but in some restaurants not.

Stunning views of Cinque Terre & Portofino

Moneglia, a small seaside resort, was a great base for our walking holiday away from the crowds of the more popular villages of Cinque Terre. The Hotel Piccolo was perfectand the staff were very friendly. Our room was spacious and clean with a safe and tea and coffee making facilities. We also had a small balcony where we could sit and have a beer but there was also a sun terrace with a jacuzzi and outside terraces facing the street to sit on and have a drink with our group. It was great to have access to the indoor swimming pool at the end of the day’s walk but unfortunately the sauna was never switched on.
Breakfast was more than adequate with a limited range of cereals, scrambled eggs and bacon, ham and cheese, bread, fruit, yogurt and cakes.
The daily walks all started with a trip to the train station to get us to the start of our walk.

Most Inspirational Moment

The views as we approached the Cinque Terre villages were stunning particularly on the walk from Corniglia to Manarola along the terraces. Our walk and time spent in Portofino Seeing the dolphin whilst walking to the villages. View of the villages from the boat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michela Wicks was an exceptional leader. She has a wonderful, warm personality with a great sense of humour together with great organisational skills, which ensured the daily travel arrangements by train at the start and end of the walks ran smoothly. She chose a good range of restaurants for the group evening meals but allowed flexibility for those that wanted to do their own thing. Michela was also happy to stay with the group at breakfast and dinner which gave us the opportunity to learn so much about her country. Michela went beyond the call of duty on our free day and gave lots of advice to different members of the group ensuring that everyone was able to achieve what they wanted. Michela also gave alternative options to members of the group who for various reasons had to miss some of the walks. Whilst they might have missed a walk she made sure that they still accessed the beautiful villages and had a wonderful holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read the trip notes! It's a level 3 which means you are going to need your walking boots and if you are not used to walking 7 - 8 miles a day, up and down hills you are likely to find it difficult. As the ascents and descents are 200-300 metres you may find a walking pole useful but practise before you go, you don't want to be waving it around injurying fellow walkers. It was very hot in October so a 1-2 litre water bottle is useful. There are generally places to refill at lunchtime.

Our Italian Adventure

This holiday exceeded our expectations on all levels even though I am an Exodus fan, having travelled on their adventure holidays many times in the past. This was a centre based holiday high above the Amalfi Coast staying at a lovely family run hotel with good facilities and great food. We had a very experienced leader called Suzy and she organised and catered for our group of 16 travellers with endless energy and great enthusiasm! Our group of friends from all over the world bonded right from the beginning eating and socialising all together and enjoying our days together. The walks were excellent and acurately described in the trip notes and three of the walks started from the hotel which was good as it did not involve coach travel on the winding, hair raising roads around the area! We had a great day visiting Mount Versuvius and Pompeii and there were several options on our free day and we chose to visit Herculanium. The weather on our holiday was perfect and the scenery spectacular.

Most Inspirational Moment

Our most inspirational moment was climbing up to the top of Monte Tre Calli mountain and taking in the breathtaking views of the coastline.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Suzanne Hesselden was excellent in all departments, she was a very experienced tour leader in walking, cycling and climbing and was very good organising our group and accommodating everybody's needs and expectations. Her energy, enthusiasm and knowledge of the area was boundless and inspired everyone in the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would recommend to any prospective travellers to get into training for this wonderful walking holiday as the terrain can be tough going including many steps. I would grade this as a moderate rather than leisurely walking holiday and getting a little bit of training in would make sure you enjoy the holiday to its fullest.

Fabulous trip

Beautiful country with a mixture of forest, coast and mountains. Our group bonded really well; we had lots of laughs and lots of encouragement for each other up the hills. Food was good; mezze style shared between the group which worked really well. Lots of snack stops to keep us fuelled.

Most Inspirational Moment

Making it up the Llogara Pass which was hot, very hilly but well worth it!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Erlis was fantastic. Very easy going, knowledgeable about the history of Albania and nothing was too much trouble for him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do some hill practice before coming, as the first day starts with some tough hills. Visit now before word gets out about how fabulous Albania and its people are.

Awesome Vietnam

If you are thinking of doing this trip then go ahead and book it. It’s amazing and you will love it. If you are worried about not being fit enough for this trip you don’t have to worry as you can climb on the air conditioned bus, recline the seat and watch the world go by. The bus is never too far away. You will see some beautiful scenery, eat some amazing food, cycle some challenging “undulations”, swim in beautiful warm seas and travel on some of the county’s most chaotic roads.

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling the spectacular Hai Van Pass with stunning views. If you have a go pro then this would be the time to use it. It was hard work but I was so pleased I did it. It took about an hour to climb the 10k steep hill. Hoi An old town on day 9 was one of my favourite places to visit with the river, temples and shops. If you like tailored clothing you can have a suit made in a day here. Some members of the group had suits made and they were of outstanding quality and craftsmanship. Whale Island was also beautiful and peaceful and a welcome rest and recuperation destination.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We were so lucky to have Long Le. He was so friendly right from the moment when we met at the airport. He was so professional, organised, knowledgeable, hard working, kind and thoughtful. He made sure everybody was safe and happy at all times. He found the best establishments to eat and drink and I trusted him and his team completely. His knowledge of his country was incredible and he always encouraged you to ask questions.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a large tub of chamois cream, it will become your friend as you will be cycling solidly for nine days in the heat and rain and by the end of the holiday the bike will feel like part of you. I recommend “udderly smooth” you can purchase it from Amazon for £8.99. A handlebar bag would be a good idea as I took a bum bag and it just got in the way when signalling to fellow cyclists behind you. Most people took their own saddles and gel covers for their seats. Lee, the bike mechanic will fit it all for you. I also took an “ass saver” mud guard for the back of the bike to prevent mud splashes on rainy days. You can pack it easily in your luggage as it’s lightweight and it comes as a flat piece of plastic that you shape and fit under your saddle with no brackets. You can buy it from Amazon for about £5. A good pair of padded gel sorts and gloves are essential as your hands and ass get quite sore after a few hours on the bike. A good waterproof high SPF sun screen as it’s a pain having to re-apply it at each stop. The sun can get unbearable at times and you can burn very easily. Incognito insect repellent is excellent and works well too, you will need it every day whilst cycling. I recommend taking a comfortable pillow for the long bus journeys so you can catch up on much needed sleep.

Wonderful way to see a beautiful country

This Croatian trip was a wonderful mix of unspoilt countryside, sparkling clear seas and historical walled towns and cities. It was also a good mix of fairly challenging hills, flatter coastal roads and time for rests in cafes, ferries and short trips in the minibus. Our guide Alan organised and managed the whole holiday very skilfully, with good support from our driver. The ice creams were the best I’ve tasted since being in Italy, and the seafood and roast vegetables were also a highlight.

Most Inspirational Moment

I was inspired by people on the trip, not only because they were older on average than on other trips (mid/late 50s to late 60s) and doing well on the rides, but also dealing well with challenges in their lives.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alan our guide Alan was excellent, he was patient, thoughtful, encouraging, helpful, amiable, good humoured, made good decisions, very well organised without rushing us and explained clearly our route and day ahead.

Advice for Potential Travellers

October is a good time of year to go, not too hot but still warm, we had day temperatures around 20-25C.

Life changing and unforgettable experience

This was a truly life-changing trip. By that I mean, it was an experience of many extreme highs, such as seeing the unique and beautiful wildlife, coupled with being witness to some very difficult scenes, such as the slash and burn practice and huge areas of deforestation.

The trip has left me wanting to learn more about this incredible country, its people and its wildlife. Would very much like to visit again and investigate further into the issues this country is clearly facing.

This is a very special country and any visitor will be rewarded in many ways.

Most Inspirational Moment

The wildlife was what I booked the trip for and it did not disappoint. I had no idea we would see so many species of lemurs, reptiles, birds, plants and trees insects and frogs and at such close range, we really were so very lucky. I cannot underestimate just how special it felt to witness these incredible endemic species in their (rapidly disappearing) habitat. The call of the indri is a sound that I will never, ever forget. I feel inspired to learn more and find out if there is any way in which I can help contribute to the future of this country, as the people and the native plants and animals are facing some very severe challenges, such as a hugely increasing population, rapid loss of habitat moved over to farming, shaky political leadership, the introduction of non-native species of animals, trees and plants that cannot support native wildlife, and the slash and burn agricultural practice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Vola was really lovely. She kept us safe, listened to feedback, was flexible with timings and programmes and informed us on any queries and questions we had as best she could. At times, she went above and beyond for her clients, giving massages to one guest who was suffering from back and shoulder pain, and taking another client to the dentist for emergency treatment. She was also fun to be around and made us laugh every day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go with an open mind, and be prepared to see the mass destruction of the environment which you will definitely witness. Bear in mind, this is a very poor country and life here is hard. Saying that, the people were all very warm and welcoming to the small number of tourists that we saw. We never ever felt threatened or anything other than welcome. This is what makes the environment/humanity inbalance so very difficult to bear witness to, as the people are just as amazing as the flora and fauna that most visitors come to see. We found the physical rating of 1 to be misleading, I would say there are some moderate to strenuous hikes on this tour. Bring camera, binoculars, insect repellent and some detergent to wash clothes. Accommodation and food were excellent, much better than we expected.

TEU - Walking in North Cyprus

Another great holiday organised by Exodus. The beautiful countryside of North Cyprus was well highlighted by this tour. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and kept the group together well. The weather was a bit hotter than I expected (the eastern Mediterranean was suffering from a hot summer and the temperatures were in the mid-80s whereas I was expecting a few degrees cooler. However, by keeping well hydrated the walks did not provide me with any problems.

Most Inspirational Moment

The final walk through the pine forest and down to Sourp Magyar was exhilarating and the view at our final location of Kyrenia Rock was amazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Geetha was excellent - knowledgeable, approachable, and passionate about his area. He always spent time getting to know his guests and knew who to trust to lead the way while assisting the members of our group who may have been struggling. Gave us a good advice on the creatures of the area and was not phased when we ran into a couple of snakes! He provided us with some great recommendations to eat in the evenings and where to go on our downtime.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The arrival and meet at Larnaca Airport seemed a bit chaotic but once Geeta became involved things calmed down and we arrived at our hotel in Kyrenia through the border controls in Nicosia without problem. Make sure you bring water bottles with you and good stout walking boots as there is quite a bit of walking on scree and boulders.
