Finnish Wilderness Week

Hi – as a single female traveller over 60 years of age I really enjoyed this holiday. Accommodation was quite basic, but this was too be expected and food showed much creativity but the company was enjoyable and activities varied and very interesting.

Most Inspirational Moment

My favourite activity was the husky sledge rides and seeing all the dogs in their natural surrounding.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was great - she couldn't do enough for us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Just be wary of your own capabilities. On my free day off I chose to do a 6KM hike with a younger and fitter member of the group ; I think I would have been okay had we not cover the distance up to the highest point of the resort in 2 hours - however I've since suffered a repetitive calf injury and am still suffering 5 weeks later. Great views though and wouldn't have missed the trip!

Awesome

A very busy trip that gave us a taste of so many parts of Vietnam and an opportunity to understand about the culture and food in the north and south. A good mixture of history, sightseeing and a variety of travel modes. Hotels were of a high standard and the customer service from people who served us in all of the accommodation, on buses and in restaurants was first class. As tourists we were welcomed with open arms. We enjoyed the energy and optimism of Vietnam and the sense of humour and pride in the country

Most Inspirational Moment

Cruising through Halong Bay was breathtaking and dining and sleeping over on the boat

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nga was an absolutely awesome leader. She was full of enthusiasm, knowledge, great care for each individual and wonderful sense of humour. I really missed her early morning positivity on returning to the UK. She made the trip for us and gave us a great insight into Vietnamese culture

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a busy schedule. In retrospect I would have planned in some down time immediately after the travel. Take into consideration that there are a lot of optional trips/activities as well as the main ones

Great cycling trip and super food

This was our seventh cycling trip in Europe but our first with Exodus. It was up there with the best of our past trips. The bikes were good (brand new), the hotels as good or better than expected and the guides were excellent. We managed the climbs ok and felt increasingly confident as the week progressed. One of the nice things about this trip is being by the sea. A real highlight was the food organised by Niovi and Demetrius – the snacks, lunches and the dinners. Delicious, good value and time effective. We were a small group and all were good company. We recommend this trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

Sitting up high at the amazing Epidauros amphitheatre, taking it all in and looking across at the Greek landscape.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - Niovi is great fun and a super organiser and Demetrius a terrific driver, cook, teller of stories, additional guide. They made a great team and added various fun or thoughtful surprises for us. Their organising of the food was exceptional and a real highlight of the holiday.

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are some good climbs on this trip but, having done cycling trips before and practiced on the local hills in the weeks just before going, we coped ok and are now up for more 'moderate' trips.

fine

Excellent week. Really well organised interesting sites.

Most Inspirational Moment

Petra

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ibrahim was exceptional as a guide. Really friendly, knowledgeable, professional and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He worked really hard to make our trip run really smoothly.

A wonder of the world, sun, sea and sand - this trip has it all!

Having just returned from Jordan and reflecting back on my week away, I feel it has been one of the best trips of my life so far. The tour has been created to have a very varied, yet well balanced itinerary consisting of the capital, Petra – a new wonder of the world, the desert, the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. It cannot be argued that this is a relaxing holiday, there is a lot of travelling and a couple of long bus days (though nothing too overbearing and always well broken up with plenty of stops and sites along the way) and the number of included activities means you will fill like you’ve seen the whole country in a week! But it’s brilliant fun, and the opportunity to see all the main sites and the stunning scenery will mean you’ll be happy to rest once you get home!

Jordan is a fabulously and I feel underrated country. Despite being situated in an area of the world which has had some problems, Jordan is forunate to be a safe and easy to travel country. As a solo female traveller I didn’t have a single moment of my trip where I felt uncomfortable or unsafe. The people were welcoming, the weather was perfect (not too hot but sunny every day) and the sights far surpassed my expectations. If you are considering visiting Jordan, you can’t beat this trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

Two days to explore and hike Petra. It's such a fantastic and fascinating site, and far, far larger than I expected. I'm glad the itinerary permitted two full days here as one day would have felt rushed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ibrahim was a brilliant leader. Clearly very experienced, he was enthusiastic, knowledgable and most importantly looked after us and made us feel very comfortable. I've done many similar group tours over the years, but never with Exodus before, and I think he was one of the best leaders I've had.

Advice for Potential Travellers

As a solo female traveller some of my friends and family were surprised when I told them of my decision to visit Jordan. But I couldn't have felt more comfortable. Exodus take care of you right from the moment you step off the plane, and the people I met and travelled with couldn't have been lovelier. I was in a group of 20, a mix of ages, both couples and single travellers and we are got along brilliantly, having group dinners every night and staying in touch post trip. Ibrahim, our leader, was fantastic and took brilliant care of us. I can honestly say I have no issues and the trip couldn't have gone better.

A dedicated photographic trip for tigers and other wildlife.

A dedicated photographic trip to India to photograph tigers in the Bandhavgarh National Park.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing my first wild tiger and then to see them on ever drive. Exceptional sightings in a variety of situations. A least three sets of cubs not shy to entertain the followers. April/May is the hot season 45c and the watering holes attract tigers and other animals and birds. Hang around and sooner or later things will usually happen. We were entertained on a daily basis by three brothers play fighting in and around the water. I do not now of another person who has witnessed so much tiger activity. November is the popular time to go, but if you can cope with the heat, April/May is the better time to go.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Trips like the one we were on do not just happen. You need to make your own luck and most is down to the leader. In this case Paul Goldstein works tirelessly in order to get the best vantage point. His manner will not suit everyone but anyone who runs the London marathon in a tiger suit deserves special treatment and recognition. Thats why he has a regular and dedicated group of followers. Exodus has a wonderful local India leader in Heemanshu. A quietly spoken but very knowledgeable person that commands the respect of all the local staff.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Travel with Exodus on dedicated photographic trips, if you want the best opportunities to get your images. Wildlife photography is not easy and is unpredictable. You need to put the time in and make every effort to increase your chances of being successful. Also the group must get on and I have never been part of a bad group with Exodus

Busy but enlightening

Great trip with a wide variety of destinations, history and architecture. Excellent food and tasty honey liquors!

Most Inspirational Moment

Riga and Vilnius

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader Migle was very organized and knowledgeable

Advice for Potential Travellers

It's a busy trip with lots of "pack and go", so just be prepared for that. The trip is not for those who are particularly adventurous or active. Book an extra day in Vilnius, as time is limited there on the tour.

Remote trekking at its best

Adventure holidays don’t get much better than this. Inexpensive, nearby (three and a half hours from London Gatwick) yet it feels like you’re a world away from home.

Most Inspirational Moment

Highlights include trekking through beautiful remote locations, reaching the top of one of the highest summits in the region, bathing in a natural series of rock pools, viewing a myriad of stars and galaxies in the clear night sky and learning the ways of Bear Grylls from our dear mentor James. He was one of the four Brits in our group. We were also fortunate to have one Belgian and a married couple from Australia. We were all strangers when we touched down in Agadir but we bonded almost from the get go.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group was led by the Lahcan, an expert guide who explained where we would be trekking. We all came to appreciate his wisdom, experience and good humour as the days rolled by. He showed us the way as we headed up, up, up and then down, down, down pointing out the landmarks and of course dangers along the way. He treated us to nuts, dates and tea and fascinated us with tales of local lore. He was also supported by an attentive team – which included an excellent chef (Hassan), driver, two marvellous mules and their handlers.

Advice for Potential Travellers

By day we trekked through remote landscapes; climbing up rugged, barren rocks and back down to lush irrigated green valleys. Some of the walks were challenging and we encountered ever changing temperatures – so layers of clothing were vital. On some of the nights we struggled to sleep in our tents due to high winds; but we were always happy. Trekking gives your body and brain a work out, but make sure you read the small print: this adventure is an eight day detox. No need to be afraid... it will reawaken your senses and make you feel alive.

Amazing and hot!

Vietnam is everything you think it may be and everything you can never imagine! So opposite to your life in the western world, the country is a beautiful, absolutely chaotic, in your face and also serene at times. This is an extremely well organised trip and you will definitely get a flavour of Asia. Food is beyond amazing and our tour guide was unbelievable and a wonderful human!

Most Inspirational Moment

On a boat travelling down the Mekong river wearing traditional hat and savouring the quiet!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Joilee was beyond wonderful and professional and was also pretty funny! She cared for us in the group like her own and she was the most wonderful representative for her country of Vietnam

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring lots of loose clothing, laundry wash as you will be changing your clothes a lot! Don’t bother with any make up or stuff for hair, within a day that all goes out of the window! Enjoy your rest afternoons relaxing, the tour is pretty full on and will get tired otherwise. And close your eyes at times, savour what you are experiencing

Walking in Sardinia

The walk on the first day was cold and very windy and I was unsure what to expect – but after that we were lucky with perfect sunny weather. Every day was very different with some challenging walks and very interesting archaeology. The countryside was very green with colourful flowers and the sea very blue. The sea was pretty cold in early May but a brief swim was very refreshing in the clear water. The hotel was family run and very friendly with hot showers and homely food. Our leader Albert was great – although it would have been nice to have learned a bit more about Sardinian culture. Our group spanned 30 years in our ages – which made for a really good mix of people. I really enjoyed Sardinia and this holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

Hard to say. I loved Serra Orrios in its setting of olive trees - and also seeing a bee orchid!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Albert was excellent. It was nice to have some local guides at some sites too. And having wine and local cheeses at the small family vineyard of our minivan drivers was very welcome.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Walking poles were good with some steep ups and downs on coastal paths.
