Classic Patagonia Trek
Excellent trek with lovely views of Torres del Paine in Chile and Cerro Torre in Argentina.
Most Inspirational Moment
Watching the Torres del Paine emerge through the mist.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Pepe was an excellent leader. He arranged some lovely group meals in the evening and some little walks on our day off-a visit to a bird sanctuary in El Calafate and a walk to look for condors in El Chaltén.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Worth having a separate bag for summer clothes to leave in Buenos Aires
You are given a very good travel towel and metallic water bottle in Torres del Paine to use on the trip.
A sleeping bag liner was useful for the Los Cuernos refuge as they only have a sleeping bag and no sheets.
Make sure your rucksack has a waterproof cover
We had snow in El Chaltén so make sure you take layers
When not on the trek it was quite nice to have different clothes for the evening
Most places take Visa credit cards (MasterCard less so) though the internet is poor in El Chaltén so it doesn’t always work. You don’t need Chilean money at all. Even the San Telmo market stalls in Buenos Aires take dollars.
Most of us were glad not to have booked an optional trip in El Calafate, we needed a rest!

Best Trip
Just did cycle trip Nov 8-23…what a fabulous time!!!. I am not a cyclist and was worried about being able to do this trip, but it was amazing. The group was large (18) with a mixture of couples and singles all around 25-69 yrs in age.
I did fall off the bike on the first day and ended with a slight sprained wrist and cuts and bruises. 2nd day fell off again lol. Our guide looked after me well. I did ride the bus in places I did not feel comfortable with. Cycling was pretty decent, around 12-15km/hr for most of the group, the faster riders went ahead. Bike teams were fabulous and kept the equipment well looked after, snack foods plentiful. The heat and humidity was incredible, but after 3 days I was fine.
Crossing boarders was easy. Visited many markets along the way and tried Grasshoppers, Silk Worms, Beetles, Snake, Tarantula, Scorpion and many other delicious Asian dishes.
Visiting the Killing Fields, S21, War museum was very eye opening. The home stay was amazing! what a beautiful experience, got to help with dinner prep, beds were comfy, out door shower relaxing.
The only thing I would say is if travelling single it is worth the extra cost to book single supplement. Spending 24/7 with the group is great but its nice to have time alone.
I took the advice of reviews and packed light…took a back pack and carry on and I did fine, you can wash clothes in the sink and it dries quickly or laundry is cheap.
Most Inspirational Moment
The most inspirational part of the trip for me was visiting the killing fields, S21 and War museum.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Our group leader was IS....what can I say …. she is the BEST!!!! We all fell in love with her.
what an amazing woman and friend. She had us on time and kept us safe,When I fell she was right there taking care of my wounds, showed us how the people live, shared many foods with us. She went above and beyond her job! If you are fortunate to have her as your guide you will truly enjoy your trip.
Advice for Potential Travellers
make sure you are a seasoned cyclist, doing just spin classes wont be enough. The cycling is long, the first day is short, but the next 2 days will be about 80-90k the heat and humidity will be high! it was high 30s and humidity was around 72. Be sure you are very comfortable cycling in the city as the traffic can be quite heavy and very different from normal city cycling, I took the bus near the cities as I was totally not prepared. Bring some type of cream for the bottom lol. I did not care for Vietnam $$ so I changed it back into US currency as most places will take US dollars. I took about $100.00 US for each country and that was sufficient but if you want to drink alcohol and buy items then you would need more. For the Temples you would need to bring clothing that covers below the knees.
As I mentioned before, if travelling solo then its worth the extra $ to book a single room.

Discover Costa Rica
A great trip to get an idea of the different environments in Costa Rica, we saw a huge amount of wildlife in such a short space of time.
Most Inspirational Moment
Hard to pick just one moment; seeing a sloth in the wild for the first time, the tiny turtle heading out of its nest down to the sea, the hummingbirds, the perfectly named resplendent quetzals, the macaws, the ever changing scenery, never ending laughter with the group of strangers that quickly became friends ……..just so many wonderful moments to remember.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Fantastic! Carlos Calvo is an excellent guide, his passion and knowledge knows no bounds, spotting animals and birds that we would have very easily missed. He is an amazing photographer and was more than happy to share his photos with the group. He is well organised and had a great sense of humour, interacting with everyone in the group with ease.
Our driver Henry Fonseca was great too, he kept the minibus super clean, drove very carefully and always had a smile on his face.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Definitely read the previous traveller notes, nothing to add as they are pretty comprehensive

Truly a magical tour. It will make you want to return .....soon !
If ever you wanted proof that cycling is a great way to get to know a country then this is it. And what a country. So different in every respect to the UK. The upside of travelling in November is the glorious colours to be seen all around you, enhanced if you’re lucky by blue skies. The downside, and this was outside anyone’s control even our meticulous leader ‘Tea’, is that the weather can be changeable and quite cold at times. We had some challenging days cycling against a very determined headwind. If you’re a hardy northerner this will be no problem, but if you’re a southern softie bring plenty of layers. Having said that most of the rain fell at night and we were only caught out once and that was at the end of a ride, so you could say that luck was on our side.
For the most part the cycling was on quiet back roads with plenty of interesting stop-offs along the way, where our knowledgeable guides shared their knowledge and passion for their country. Hotels were a mix of western and traditional japanese inns which were generally of a higher standard than you might experience on many Exodus holidays. The traditional inns were very special and allowed you to immerse yourself, sometimes literally, into this unique culture. The food was excellent, but you do have to be prepared to experiment with a cuisine that is distinctly different from ours. The phrase ‘holiday of a lifetime’ is probably overused, but if you’re prepared to soak up the culture, be experimental and are relatively fit then this holiday will probably come very close to matching that description.
And of course the toilets – you’re going to be very disappointed when you return to the UK or anywhere else for that matter!!
Most Inspirational Moment
We visited a small family run ryokan which was our first introduction to a japanese inn, and this for me was the best night of the holiday. It was quite basic in its facilities with no ensuite in any room. But it had a bar (quite a rarity) where you could warm up after the ride, in preparation for an exquisite evening meal followed by an impromptu japanese 'harp' recital. You just had to remember which shoes to wear, and of course no footwear on the tatami mats in the bedroom and dining area.
There were many other contenders, but if I was asked to pick just one that would be it.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Mr Tea, as I called him, was a true professional. Very methodical and meticulous so that nothing was left to chance resulting in a very smoothly run holiday. He certainly went the extra mile every day, cycling up and down the group as we progressed, resulting in a vast array of photos of us on the move, and I don't think I've ever been on a holiday with so many group photo requests!
He was ably supported by Taichi, our driver and Akiko our sub-leader. They worked hard after we'd finished cycling and were up again in the morning ensuring that the bikes were in tip top condition. Very impressive.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Follow the advice in the trip notes. Take plenty of cash although credit cards were accepted as payment in most places, but not on the metro! Travel out a a couple of days before the tour starts to acclimatise and get to know Tokyo, and maybe also an extra day in Kyoto at the end.
Depending on the time of year bring plenty of layers as it can get cold in the mountains, particularly at night. Don't bother with too much evening wear. Traditional japanese kimonos are available in many hotels.
Just be open minded and read up about japanese customs before you go out. Politeness is embedded into japanese society so don't let the side down.

Never gets old
12 years from first doing the Atlas descent in 2007 I am embarked for a third journey on this wonderful expedition. The variety of scenery and landscapes combined with the off-road journey makes this a wonderful trip
Most Inspirational Moment
It’s difficult to pick out the most inspirational part of the trip. I saw several, however the group gelling and working together and helping everybody out along with the tour leader and drivers is always a very special experience. Some of the climbs are very challenging and I am not the fastest uphill so completing them is always something which I’d like to remember!
Thoughts on Group Leader
This was the first time I had a local group leader on a cycling trip in Morocco. Abdu did a great job and was always very conscientious to ensure he did his best, culturally he may not have some of the more strident behaviours needed. However I did speak to him and give him some advice on how he Could change his own personal style which I think he was grateful for
Advice for Potential Travellers
Ensure you pack the correct clothing and footwear! You will need to do some training and have off-road experience

A fantastic trip
We have had an amazing time, our guide Pepe was extremely professional, helpful and made the group feel we were in safe hands. The scenery was beautiful and the treks were hard but well worth the effort.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing the Torres del Paine once we reached uptake top of the trek, a lovely lake and fab mountains.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Pepe was an outstanding leader, he was extremely professional about his job, was patient and good fun. I felt confident we were in good hands. Pepe was also good fun and a team player.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Try to take only the minimum amount required on the 4 days trek as I found I took too much and my rucksack was very heavy!!

Lots of treasures to see but some oddities in there too!
A very good trip, November is after the clocks go back in Jordan so the days are shorter and the first couple of days felt a bit rushed whereas perhaps the summer hours would have enabled more time in each place. Thereafter settled into the pace of the tour and enjoyed it. Petra is huge and I could have done with more time there to see the museum. Covered about 40km walking in 2 days! (You don’t have to!)
Personally I could have left out Wadi Rum camp but that might have been the overnight 4c weather, uncomfortable bed, and the camp fire “meal” which left us all smelling like a smoked kipper. I didn’t do the camel ride but feedback was it was a waste of time – hopefully someone will cover that in their review. The entire Aqaba day where we were trapped on a beach resort with competing music around the various pools waiting for the rooms to be ready, then whiled away the day waiting to get back to archaeology in Amman on the final day. Aqaba is very odd choice for this tour.
Therefore (or despite the moans) 4 stars.
Most Inspirational Moment
We had a good build up to Petra visiting various "castles" but nothing can prepare you for walking down to Petra. I didn't do any research before going so it was all a surprise for me including the walk in and out - best not give away too much! Various optional walks inside Petra allows each person to do as much or as little as they wish. Jerash is excellent and Amman Citadel a great surprise too. Jordanians are happy tolerant people, there are no pushy people selling you things.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Nidal was very knowledgeable and well organised, I think he had a bit of a challenge getting everything done on the summer schedule with sunset being around 4.30 but he kept us organised and it didn't feel overly rushed other than the first two days which were a lot of coach time compared to visit time.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Take a water bottle, the coach has a fresh supply which is also taken into the hotel when staying more than one night. Lunches are really cheap! a falafel wrap or something from the bakery costs about 40p, packaged food and drinks are UK prices.
You really need a sleeping bag liner for Wadi Rum!!!
Take a hard copy of your passport and travel insurance - the passport is needed to go with the Jordan Pass and they do check it at Petra especially. Taking a copy will save time on day 1 briefing. Should be in the trip notes.
Pack light the mini-coach isn't that big and you can wash and dry in the hotels very easily or use their laundry service.
Read the other reviews for more tips!

Amazing Adventure!
If you are in two minds about booking this trip, book!
The cycling was not easy at times due to a combination of hills, non paved roads, distance and heat. However, this added to the challenge, adventure and achievement and our expectations were well managed by our fantastic Costa Rican guide/leader, Jackie.
The journey through three countries provided some amazing rides. Personal highlights were those ending with swims in the Pacific and Caribbean oceans where we would literally cycle on to the beach and jump in for a swim! There were also rides through cloud forests to rain forests, to and from volcanoes, through local villages and through banana plantations spotting monkeys, toucans, sloths and other wildlife along the way!
Along the trip we also enjoyed a couple of optional non cycling days and exciting pit stops. I loved our tour round a chocolate farm, canopy walk through a rain forest, zip lining, red frog island trip and walk through a butterfly nature reserve. The non cycling activities allowed us to experience more of the three amazing countries we visited.
Nature and wildlife feature highly on the trip but the start and end in Granada and Panama City provided a great contrast and are beautiful places to spend a few days. The amazing feat of the Panama Canal was also fitting end to the trip.
The trip was exceptionally organised from start to finish. There were no issues and I cannot think of any areas of improvement. Travel is with a group leader, mechanic and driver who were all fantastic and fundamental to the success of the trip.
Our Costa Rican guide Jackie is a real gem! She provided interesting and informative information about the history, culture and environment of the places we visited and an infectious sense of fun and positivity. She provided excellent briefings about the cycling before each ride, she had a genuine love of Central America and she was a joy to be around. She was also a very good cyclist.
The hotels and restaurants selected by Exodus were well chosen and some were so good they were highlights of the trip.
I will remember this trip and the lifelong friendships I have formed for years to come. Thank you Jackie and the Exodus team and book if you are considering this trip! I will be coming back for more!
Most Inspirational Moment
Sharing the challenge of cycling and beautiful sights of three contrasting countries with an amazing group of people.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Fundamental to why the trip was so good and a great asset to Exodus.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Book! A bit of pre- training on hills might be sensible although the rides get progressively more challenging meaning you do improve as the trip goes on! Cycling gear is not essential but I would recommend padded shorts, breathable tops, gloves, arm covers (to keep off the sun) and a light weight rain jacket. I washed my clothes at a laundry half way through the trip which Jackie pointed out. This was quick and cheap and did a good job. Also, if you have the option of going to extra activities, definitely do them as they were all worthwhile. Even the extra imax cinema show at the Panama Canal was good!

Good 'ole Exodus!
An interesting blend of Vietnam from north to south including an o/n sleeper train. The success and enjoyment of these trips is usually down to the blend of fellow travellers and team leader and this one was no different. The weather, early season, was mixed with a little more rain and cloud than hoped for but did not detract from the enjoyment but a little more sunshine would have enhanced the countryside. A read of the brochure and trip notes will give a very accurate picture of the breadth and variety of the trip. The daily riding distances are mainly governed by the fitness of the participants and their ability to cover the miles in a reasonable time and for the first time in my experience of 7 trips we were delayed by some participants who frankly were not cycling fit and I wonder if they had read and understood the pre – trip advice!
Most Inspirational Moment
What I like about Exodus is that they come up with a blend of tourism and cycling that is inspirational itself. The Viet Cong tunnels from the war and the brief visit to the 'museum' were highly informative as was the knowledge of the tour leader which was outstanding. The visit to Halong Bay was outdtanding too - I'd seen films and photos of the huge 'Rocks' in the Bay but to cruise among them was vividly fascinating - although I could have passed on visiting one of the islands with a tiny overcrowded beach on a Sunday afternoon!
Thoughts on Group Leader
Our group leader was excellent. An educated, well informed local person. He constantly referred to us all 'as my family' and I think most of us bought into his philosophy. As I noted earlier we had 2 'difficult' participants who were not up to cycling the distance within the required timings but understandingly felt that they had a right to complete the same distance as everone else. A conundrum that requires careful management that took a while to resolve. Presumably Exodus has a policy to address this but it was somewhat absent early on.
Advice for Potential Travellers
A really fascinating, interesting and at times challenging trip - BOOK it!

Outstanding trip, wonderful experiences every day
Great organisation, team, guides and Leader; Chai, we experienced people, food, culture and daily life in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Saw most wonderful temples in Angkor, deeply moving visits to the Killing Fields and the Vietnam War Remnants museum and the great buzz of SiemReap, Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh cities
Most Inspirational Moment
Hard to pick a single event. Every day brought something new and different. The Temples of Angkor are simply stunning
Thoughts on Group Leader
Chai was outstanding. He did a great job showing us new and different aspects to daily life in all three countries. His team of drivers, cyclists, mechanics and local guides were superb.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Research what you will see and visit in advance so you get the very best out of the trip. Bring comfortable cycling clothing, but not too much, laundry is easy. Make sure you bike size is correct and confined ahead of travelling. Get some miles done on the bike before travel so you’re fit enough to enjoy the scenery and not struggling
