Albania is a beautiful place
Just returned from my first Exodus trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were a small group of 7, plus Arjan as guide and Rimi our driver, who were both very helpful and good fun. All Arjan’s eatery recommendations were great and the food overall was excellent. You also get a lot for your money in Albania – I spent less than £200 in total the whole week. I enjoyed the variety of natural scenery on the tour.. mountains, lakes, rivers, coast.. as well as the beautiful city of Gijrokastra. I’m a reasonably fit 55 year old, cycle a couple of times per week and the level of cycling was just about right for me – a real challenge on some of the days, especially the last day, plus it was very hot!! – but the group was well supported with water and you can always take a break or even jump in the minibus if you’re flagging feeling below par. Albania is a beautiful country with incredibly friendly and humble people. I would definitely recommend this trip.
Most Inspirational Moment
Completing the final day. The morning climbs are tough, but we all made it!
Thoughts on Group Leader
Arjan is a great guy. Funny, calm, informative, helpful, great on the bike and he had everything in hand at every point. His food recommendations were all spot on.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Pick a bit of local currency up in the airport on arrival.

Free in nature after two years delay
This expedition on Quark’s ship the Ultramarine was delayed from July 2020, and the original booking was for another ship, but then this new one was available, and has dedicated single cabins.
Because of the pandemic we had to take tests before flying to Oslo, and there another antigen test for Quark. All negative persons were allowed to board the charter flight up north, where we met our ship. Because of said pandemic the staff had their own bubble and would not mingle with the travellers, and inside masks were compulsory. So we met the staff only on the zodiac trips and when ashore.Meals were also a lonely affair, as distances were to be kept, buffets had personnel with masks and gloves put on your plate what you asked for and showed, all behind glass
So only the outside, zodiac cruises and walks ashore, were really free, the nature is beautiful, animals free too and showed up to pose for picture, including a group of 3 polar bears who had their meals already caught, and were close to shore. So all zodiacs passed in silence close to the shore, and made rounds number of times, to give us a long and great view of them.
We were the first trip where the ship could circumference Spitsbergen island, even though we had to break some ice and were in a long foggy day. but it all added to the special nature of that area.
Lectures given in the evenings by the staff had different topics, from the animals we saw to their personal adventures(close contacts with bears, kayak circumference trip of Spitsbergen,)And history of course.
Most Inspirational Moment
Seeing polar bears so close up, without danger, and really doing their thing.
Seeing the mountains with fresh snow, the endless sea with ice flows. And so many glaciers.
Thoughts on Group Leader
The expedition leader was Solan, very experienced and he led us together with the captain on a very special trip.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Even though the trip is close to Spitsbergen, there were moments of a rougher sea, so take motion sickness medication. If not, the doctor on board can also help, but better to take what you are used to.
You need fully water proof pants, it can get really wet, and I'd advise to take at least two pairs of those pants. Otherwise, layered clothing, no need for anything fancy. And waterproof gloves, several pairs too.
Come with an open mind: nothing is guaranteed, except that you'll have a great time. What will fill that time is a surprise.

Traditional Asturias
So pleased I was able to join this trip last minute as it exceeded my expectations.
A stunningly beautiful traditional mountainous part of Spain. Great hotel staff and location.
Food outstanding.
Our walking group was good company and fun to be with.
Most Inspirational Moment
The whole area was inspirational, but the extensive wild flowers and views of snow on mountain tops were highlights.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Ignacio was very knowledgeable and passionate about this area.
He was supportive and motivational on the walks.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Be prepared for all weathers. It was already quite hot in June.
Some places require a good head for heights and encounters with cattle and goats on narrow paths.

The Hills were Alive!
We had the most wonderful experience on the Mont Blanc Highlights tour. Our guide, Egle, was awesome! And so was our Chalet hosts, Marta and Neal! We trekked on the most beautiful trails full of wildflowers, blue sky, cool crisp air, snow cap mountains, delicious picnic lunches and good company. Egle was knowledgeable, kind and funny. She was attentive to all of us. Marta and Neal kept our cottage comfy, clean and our bellies full. The tour was exactly what we needed, a fun full day on the trail and relaxation, community and home cooked healthy yummy meals at the chalet afterwards. We would definitely recommend this tour to everyone and Egle, Marta and Neal!
Most Inspirational Moment
The views of the French Alps while trekking - I could have kept walking forever!
Thoughts on Group Leader
We loved Egle, she was awesome! We had three young adults in our family and they all thought Egle was amazing in all the ways too!
Advice for Potential Travellers
Book it, it's worth it!

Wonderful trip
It was a wonderful trip to the Amalfi Coast, although it was very hot, particularly on the day we visited Herculaneum and Pompeii. Severio was a very good leader. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and I enjoyed the evenings that we had the pizza and pasta demonstrations. On the whole the food was very good, although we could have done with a bit more choice for the evening meal, but breakfast was excellent, although a little chaotic with so many people trying to serve themselves at the same time.
My only disappointment was that we did not have a chance to get away from Bomerano on our day off as I would have liked to go either to Naples or Vesuvius.
Most Inspirational Moment
The trip to Capri. I loved the chair lift to the top of the island. Also celebrating Gordon's birthday, the 91 year old on our trip.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Severio was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. He also told us about the offer of 7 drinks for the price of 5 at the bar by the pool.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Beware of the heat during the summer months and take plenty of suntan lotion and drink plenty of water. Take good walking shoes/boots for the Path of the Gods, and a walking pole, although they can be hired in the village.

June 11-22 trip Yellowstone
Trip through several National parks but unfortunately not Yellowstone owing to some cataclysmic rainfall, resulting in landslides, floods and roads destruction which closed access to the park.
Most Inspirational Moment
Trekking in amongst some stupendous landscapes and discovering wildlife unseen before (especially Grizzly bears and bisons)
All members of the group did get on well and accepted last minute changes with good humour.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Mike Harding saved the trip once we were told Yellowstone was closed.
We were very fortunate he has extensive knowledge of the area and many years of experience as a group leader.
His kindness and good humour kept us going. He had a very positive approach despite the situation and made every possible effort and often went beyond the call of duty to take us to alternative places and made sure we were always offered daily visits and treks.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Be prepared to be flexible as forces of nature are unpredictable and sometimes unavoidable and no one can be made accountable for them.

The magnificent seven finally completed 🥳
The warmest of welcomes from the wonderful Balkans. It felt SO good to be back !!! After falling in love with The Balkans in 2015 visiting Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina on the fabulous Bosnia and beyond tour, four of us chose to travel together again in 2016 on the Serbia, North Macedonia and Albania tour. We were lucky enough to get our tour leader Evelyn again! So I was incredibly happy to be able to ‘complete the set ‘ by finally visiting Kosovo, along with Bulgaria and North Macedonia again. We have visited everything from towns, cities, winery’s, a Beekeeper, stunning lake Ohrid, mountain’s and monastery’s! Drank Wine, beer, cocktails and plenty of Rakia…not forgetting lots of water! As always in the Balkans, the food portions are as big as the welcome you receive so take stretchy clothes as I put on 4lb ! Lol
Most Inspirational Moment
We took an optional boat trip on Lake Ohrid to the Bay of bones. 9 people went and it was 20 euro pp. We were out for approx 3 hours. Stunning views of the shore. Lovely captain on the boat giving us facts and pointing out various birds.
The visit to the Beekeeper was my favourite part . You saw how the hives worked, got to taste amazing honey ( which lots of us bought) and ever saw a bee being born! Then we had lunch at his house. Fabulous home cooked food.
Dinner at the private house was lovely too. We came out and did some stargazing as the sky was so clear! We saw the international space station pass over us !
Also our leader knew a great restaurant for our evening in Skopje. Near to the fountain in the main square.Fabulous food and lots of different choices that suited everyone's taste. I had squid ink risotto and it was one of the best meals I've ever had.
Wine tasting at the winery was fun. We had a light 3 course meal with several wines.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Kristina Pesheva-Dinovska was fantastic. Always punctual, happy, laughing, full of energy. A real 'pocket rocket' . An encyclopedia of knowledge on history and politics in the region. Always tried to get the best deal for our group. Very sociable. Very respectful of the different religions and cultures we came across on the trip ( we visited churches, cathedrals, monasteries and mosques) Was very welcomed by our hosts and our captain on the optional boat trip on Lake Ohrid. Also our driver, Iko, was excellent. Would happily travel with both of them again and would highly recommend them.
Advice for Potential Travellers
This tour is marked as leisurely but I have advised Exodus to change their trip notes. There is only one hotel you stay in for more than one night so you are constantly on the move. Most of the hotels DO NOT have lifts, so even though your bags are carried to your room you are not! And there are stairs EVERYWHERE! Also some of the places you visit have old cobbled streets which are slippery. We had 3 people on the trip who had reduced mobility and had to either miss out on some things or get taxis to places because the walk and/or climb was too arduous. They all said had they known before hand they would not have chosen to book this particular tour . I also think some people are not booking it because it's classed as leisurely. I'm 5"10 and was walking approx 10,000 steps per day, often more than that.

Bad value for money
This was my first trip with Exodus. The Greek Islands were beautiful but this trip is extremely bad value for money. The hotels, with the exception of the one on Santorini, were barely adequate – they were certainly not 3 star. In the last hotel I actually got bed bug bites. I really enjoyed the company of the group on the holiday but I’m appalled by the standard of accommodation on offer. Our guide was just ok
Thoughts on Group Leader
Ok
Reply from Exodus
We would like to thank Lesley for her review, though we are extremely sorry that she was disappointed with the accommodation provided on her trip to the Greek Islands last year. We understand that, unfortunately, the pandemic hit the Greek hospitality industry particularly hard and that hotels across the islands struggled to keep up the standards they maintained in 2020 and prior. That said, our local manager, Thanos, was confident that the hotels we carefully selected would be suitable for our clients, as they were all 3* properties or above, chosen for their location and service, though it is a matter of real regret that this was not Lesley’s impression. We can assure her that the hotels Exodus uses receive regular cleaning and visits from pest control experts.
We are confident that, for the 2023 season and beyond, the hotels we use on this trip are comfortable, clean, run by local families, and often in stunning locations, with pools at each property. From the feedback we have received from our clients who have done Walking on the Greek Islands so far this year, we are delighted to say that all rated the accommodation on this trip as being ‘Good’ or ‘Excellent’.
We take pride in our team of fantastic leaders in Greece, who are experienced, knowledgeable, and dedicated to ensuring a high quality experience for our clients, so we are regretful to hear that Lesley was lukewarm about her tour leader, as this is not the feedback we are used to receiving. We are confident that, if Lesley returned to do this trip now, she would come back with a much more positive impression.
