Busy cramped bus holiday

Costa Rica is lovely. The guides and drivers are amazing! As for the booking of the holiday, the bus being too small by at least 2/3 people (I was an extra) meant on long journeys it was not pleasant and caused problems. Some accommodation needed a little more thought (was the booking fit for the occupants, this could have been local).

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the ocean, seeing the quetzal bird, loved the boat trips through the rainforest.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mayer was simply amazing!!! He was group leader/ cater/ problem solver, that man deserves a medal.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Pack more warmer clothes, it wasn’t warm very often and you can get a frost in some locations. Use the laundrettes at the beginning of the journey, the end part is super expensive. Pack snacks for long journeys. Have an amazing camera. Be prepared for long journeys.

Magical

Everything was wonderful, the accomodation (Odd’s House), the scenery, the guides. The food was incredible, and as a vegan, I was very well catered for and felt spoilt. Even the long bus journey was beautifully scenic. The guides were patient, knowlegable, friendly and fun and everything was well communicated. I will definitely be booking this trip again.

Another excellent holiday

Uninterrupted sunshine for 7 days helped to make this a week of excellent varied skiing. It was very cold in the mornings and late afternoon. so layers were essential. This was our second stay at this lovely comfortable hotel, with friendly helpful staff, and tasty meals with plenty of choice for all preferences.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the highest point of the track every day and enjoying tremendous views of the Dolomites, then it was great to have a long ski downhill.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leaders were Michele and Alex, who planned every day to suit the weather and capabilities of the group and were kind and considerate leaders. They both know the area really well, so could arrange meeting points and lunch stops for everyone. They joined us most evenings for dinner, so we felt we got to know them and benefitted from their experience and local knowledge

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need a reasonable level of fitness for this holiday, and to be reasonably confident and competent on cross country skis. But the 2 grades mean that it's likely you can join a group at a similar level, and have a great time in Dobbiaco.

Adventures in the snow

What a fantastic trip, we arrived and saw the aurora on the first night. The rest of the trip never failed to disappoint. It was an amazing group, a fabulous mix of activity, combined with a great landscape and the stunning northern lights. The mix of activities kept us busy, exhilarated us, created some laughs and kept the fun going. We had done none before but enjoyed every moment, some challenged us but we quickly learnt a fall in the snow was like being in cotton wool! This was our first ‘snow’ or ‘cold’ trip and we’d encourage anyone to take the plunge!

Excellent, well run trip

This trip was well organised and well run from start to finish. The ship (The Ultramarine) was very comfortable and had an excellent crew. The expedition staff were very knowledgeable and professional. This trip to Antartica was everything we hoped for, can highly recommend it.

Amazing experience!

I lost count of how many times my breath was taken away by this beautiful country. Yes, of course Petra is the crown jewel, the elegant beauty Queen that brings you to tears with her subtle grace. She tends to overshadow the rest of the country that is bursting with history and antiquities. Mikhled took advantage of every opportunity to educate us about his country and culture. His dry wit and generous nature made the entire experience. He went above and beyond to share his world with us. I feel safe in saying we all fell in love with the country. Jordan is the total package. Go. Pick a time and go. You will not regret it.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through the canyon, catching my first glimpse of the Treasury in Petra brought tears to my eyes. I grew up reading about it in National Geographic, watching documentaries, and finally I was there. In person. It is overwhelming to say the ver least.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mikhled was the perfect balance of presence & availability. He advised approximate costs of items, how to negotiate, sometimes did it for us. He included everyone in the group decisions, and he often provided snacks & treats when necessity stops were made. Mikhled shared his knowledge & love of his country and culture with us. Any minor issues were promptly addressed and resolved as best as possible. He has such a great sense of humor and truly the patience of a saint. Absolutely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go! It is a vastly gorgeous country. Every day was a new surprise. The experience blew away any expectations I had. We are here for less than a blink of an eye. See as much of this world as you can, WHILE you can.

Absolutely amazing

This really was the adventure to beat all adventures, so many amazing sights and experiences. The accommodation was very comfortable, the food fantastic and the activities were stunning. The river and forest scenery as well as the sunrises and sunsets were incredible.

Most Inspirational Moment

Where do I start? The beauty of the area, the quiet, the clean air, the activities, but I think that the awe of experiencing the Northern Lights would take some beating. We truly were in the wilderness with no light pollution to obscure the views, and we could stand outside the cabins and have a 360 degree vista of the sky in unobscured darkness with the Northern Lights dancing across the sky, backlit by a clear array of moon and stars. Then during the day immersing ourselves in the depths of the snow laden forest, crossing frozen rivers, tracking through Narnia like environs, and coming back to base in the evening to warm cabins, a sauna, good company and faultless food.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lars had the gift of keeping us entertained, but at the same time sharing with us his great love of this part of the World. During the day he guided us with great friendliness, humour and expertise through the activities, and in the evenings before dinner presented a talk with slides on some of the wildlife of the area. We were kept informed about what was happening all the time, and he provided us with all the equipment that we would need to make the most of our experience for the week. Lars regularly shared with us something of the history, the culture and the life of this region, and this was done in a very informed chatty way, sometimes over the open fire, sometimes while we were walking along a track. I certainly finished the week feeling that not only had I gained a wealth of food memories, I also learnt a lot, and perhaps without realising it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip notes provide all the information that you will need. I took an extra set of base layers because they don't take up much room and provided me with extra flexibility when wrapping up in the evenings. A head torch with a strong beam would be useful as we were with the Huskies as night fell and a directional beam would have been of more benefit that just a glow.

Brilliant trip but.........

An amazing trip with so many memorable moments, seeing all the big cats, black and a white rhino, herds off elephants and the boat trip along the Nile.
Crossing the Ugandan border was an experience in itself with so many checks and the officers wanting “gifts” from us.
The campsites are not what you might expect and quite often the showers were cold water and only one to share between you. Unfortunately most of the group and staff became ill in the second week of the trip, this really dampened the spirts of everyone and it was hard with everyone feeling bad.
The food was not too my liking so I stuck to peanut butter sandwiches but Wilson did try his hardest to keep me fed but I will say that everyone else seemed to enjoy his cooking.
We were a mixed group of ages but it was great how we all got on so well together as this could make or break a trip. The 4 guys that took care of us were amazing and so helpful and friendly.
Really loved this trip but be prepared to rough it and definitely get a porter for the Gorilla trek as believe me you will need one.

Most Inspirational Moment

There are so many on this trip but I suppose seeing the mountain gorillas was something I will never forget. To get so close to them and they not be worried that you are standing around them. They had young also that were very playful which was great to witness. Second would be the balloon ride over the Masai Mari, although it was very foggy it was still amazing but expensive. The champagne breakfast was the best, amazing what they prepared for us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jacob and his team were amazing. Jacob's knowledge about all the wildlife and history and culture was second to none. Whenever we had issues he was always there to listen and take onboard what we had to say. On many a time he sorted out the accommodations for us and most of us had illness while this trip and he helped us through it.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Do not underestimate this trip, it's early starts and long days. The truck can be uncomfortable at times mainly due to the roads not being up to the standard we are used too. I would also say do the trip in reverse and see the Gorillas first as by the end of the trip we were all exhausted and a few of us were unwell. The lockers are small so no big bags and I would take lots of little packing bags as it can get a bit chaotic when everyone is trying to get to their stuff. Also take wet wipes just in case......

A great holiday with great instruction.

Ideal for learners as there is excellent tuition, beautiful area, interesting history and geology. If you’re not happy sharing with a number of people you might want the room upgrade.

Most Inspirational Moment

Up in the high country at the top of the Slack. You can see virtually nothing man made and the snow and trees are beautiful. All wrapped up with a run back down the Slack.

Thoughts on Group Leader

For non expert skiers the group leaders are essential for improving your skills. Having two leaders means the group can be split by ability to ensure everyone gets the right level of instruction or the freedom to just get out there. Really nice extras put on in the evening.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You don't need to take any Norwegian Krona. Pay for everything by card at the end of your stay and take some Euros for the leader tip. If this is your first X Country ski trip then ask Exodus sales reps about what level you should go for. If you are not sure if this trip is for you try the Finnish Wilderness Week instead which is a great tester for X Country skiing and the most incredible holiday. Drink isn't as expensive as you might think.

Fantastic Experience!

If you’re considering this trip, just book it, you will NOT be disappointed!! The trip was fantastic from start to end, I did not want to come home. The activities laid on by Exodus were fantastic, everyone was so nice and there was always a relaxed / welcoming atmosphere. I personally loved the husky and reindeer days. They exceeded my expectations and had the added bonus of learning a little about these beautiful animals. During our week the weather was in our favour and our group were very lucky to experience the Aurora on four nights. It was an amazing experience and something I will never forget. Our guide Lars was fantastic, very welcoming and knowledgeable. The scenery was stunning, hard to describe, go and experience it for yourself 🙂
