CYCLE THE BACKROADS OF SRI LANKA

This trip was a fantastic mix of road and off road – just a little bumpier… not technically difficult – riding. The experience was made all the better by the local staff knowledge and love of Sri Lanka.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved the challenging bike day. Yep - it was a climb but at a steady pace and aided with chocolate cake (best of the trip!) half way up the hill it was a fantastic day and sense of achievement. That mixed with the daily shouts of "good morning" and waves and excitement when passing through... the backroads ...as the trip notes made for a brilliant trip.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Peter was an old hand at our trip and this came through in his knowledge and love of Sri Lanka and of routes and experience in bringing the group together. While taking more of a back seat the local guides were also encouraging, hard working and great working with the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take techical t-shirts... SL is very humid.... I'm never sure how folks do these trips in T-shirts that don't dry out!

A WEEK IN JORDAN

A great trip. I wouldent want tghis level of organisation all the time but having given in to it I felt we got a lot done in a relatively short space of time. The pacing was good so that just as we got used to one amazing aspect, another came along.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking on our own in Petra and watching the sun go down in Wadi Rum.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very professional. He gave a close and personal tour whilst keeping personal thoughts on sometimes tricky political matters secret. His knowledge was rounded and excellent and his specialist architectural knowledge very useful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Not really. I think the trip notes are pretty comprehensive. But take a plug!

FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

I planned this holiday as a surprise 50th Birthday present for my Husband and boy did it exceed both my own and my husbands expectations. The trip from start to finish was absolutely fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

It has to be the Huskies, this was an unbelieveable experience, one I will never forget, especially as I have some fantastic photos of the dogs to keep as a reminder. Sledging with the dogs to the top of the mountain was amazing and the views were spectacular.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Hanna, Henrik and Teemu were absolutely fantastic and they went over and above to help in any way possible that they could. Their knowledge and experiences was brilliant and you felt in very safe hands whilst in their company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes - Go for it. If you are thinking of doing it, go on, do it, you will not be disappointed I can assure you.

my first thoughts goto kim christie, for rescueing my holiday when it looked doomed as the vessel went tech, she acted quickly and efficiently with getting me on another trip, sometimes it is not just the dream of making it on the greatest adventure in the world, but the great people behind the scenes who make it possible.

Chad was my group leader on one ocean, and he worked tirelessly to make everyone happy, even when he looked exhausted himself still kept on cracking the jokes and smiling

Make sure your have a quality camera with fast shutter speed to catch all the wildlife action

PETRA & WADI RUM TREK

I have been on this trip before, as had one other in the group: I think this says more than any number of ‘fantastics’ and ‘wonderfuls’. The peace and the space and the stars are balm for the soul; the sand, rock formations and skies make you stop and stare; Petra is deservedly a new seventh wonder of the world.

Most Inspirational Moment

Finally crossing the rock bridge on Mount Burdah. I have tried to cross it before, but had vertigo: this time I made it across! This was my high-light. The rest was just business as usual on the amazing scale. I forgot to add: a dog attached herself to the group and escorted us for the whole five days in Wadi Rum. By the end of of the trip she was our pin-up, appeared in most photographs and had a new name (Wadi) even though we suspect she is fickle and joins most trips :-)

Thoughts on Group Leader

Lovely and professional. Khaled was very knowledgeable about his country, the history, Wadi Rum, etc. He paid attention to everyone in the group and did little extras that made all the difference e.g. one night around the campfire he produced a bag of marchmallows for toasting. I appreciated the efforts he made to ensure I had vegetarian food (no mean feat). The best group leader I've had with Exodus

Winter on The Amalfi Coast

An active, yet relaxing trip to a beautiful corner of Italy with an amazing variety of different walks offering views of coastal cliffs, limestone peaks and gorges, charming seaside towns and some history in the form of the extensive and intricate ruins at Pompeii and Herculaneum as well as a unique visit to one of the world’s most notorious volcanoes.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the walks were excellent and different from each other, but the afternoon ascent to the summit of Mount Vesuvius really stood out for me. There were numerous steaming fumaroles illuminated by the setting sun just metres away from the remnants of a snow cornice on the crater rim and extensive views over the Bay of Naples in all directions – stunning!

Barbara was friendly, well organised and informative and also allowed all group members to go at their own pace and make the most of any free time on the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

On the free day, boat trips to Capri aren’t available during winter months so a good option is to visit the Roman ruins of Herculaneum and the clifftop village of Ravello and this was conveniently arranged with the hotel who ran private transfers to each of these sites. The hotel staff are very welcoming and accommodating and did a particularly good job at catering for my meal preferences.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This is the first time I had this type of holiday with a guide and a bunch of people I didn’t know. I was worried that I wouldn’t be happy to be told where to go/when to go/what to do by someone else on my holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The location was beautiful and remote, no TV/ Internet . We were very lucky with the weather which for me was one of the most important factors for enjoying the whole experience. The views on the walks were great and everyone in the group was very nice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andy was a very friendly guide, easy to talk to with a good sense of humour. On the last day I wanted an alternative to the walk and Andy recommended a beautiful village in the area of the walk. I was dropped off on the way and was picked up on the way back. This was a different day to the ones before but still very enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The cortija offers a cosy homely environment but is quite basic. The nearest village is 20 minutes away so you need to bring everything that you might need with you. There are no real facilities for washing clothes and those can get very dirty so bring enough to last the week.Make sure you get concrete directions where to meet the leader in the airport as it wasn't as simple as we were made to believe at home.

SPICE TRAILS OF KERALA

A great country to visit with very friendly people. The scenery was beautiful and varied from the quiet misty cool hills down to the hot busy towns. Many new experiences over the two week period.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking up to the Meesapulima peak and seeing (briefly) the magnificent views when the mist lifted. Walking through the tea plantations. Sailing in the backwaters of Kerala and watching the world go by. Taking a rowing boat down the numerous waterways around the Coir Village resort. Playing chess during the evenings in a local café by torch light which seemed to be of great interest to the local people, who I think, probably played a much better game than I did. Learning a little about the religions of India, visiting temples and experiencing the noise of India.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader, Santosh, was great – very helpful, overcame all problems and helped to make the group bond together.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Not sure if the water purification tablets were required as the drinking water on the camp was double boiled and bottled water was readily available. Some of the experienced camper had brought with them a small sheet of plastic for taking off ones boots before going into the tent, something I would include on my next trip. If you are going in December waterproofed trousers are useful, something I forgot also a travel sink plug would have been most useful as there were no plugs available in any of the hotels. I found it most interesting to add a few days on at the end of the holiday and visited Mumbai on my way home. It was suggested to me that to avoid stomach problem it was best to avoid meat in resturants, as it was uncertain where the meat had been stored. I became a reluctant vegetarian for the two week period and suffered no problems with the food.
