INCA TRAIL & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

Well what can i say about the Amazon and the Inca trail; what an experiance, the sites are amazing.  The inca trail was extra special and the ruins were fabulous; just to be there and walk among the sites was quite somthing, a must do trip of a life time.  However i will say i suffer from the clasic tummy bug and had to take antibiotics; but the worst bit was the fact that 7 out of the 13 of us suffered from some illness on the third day of the trail.  What was the cause we can only speculate but we had the evening meal and with 3 hours all 7 of us that suffered were vomiting and having a really bad case of the runs!!!  i’ve never in my 42 years suffered quite like that.  we all then suffered for the next week recovering but could still enjoy the trip, if not as much as we might of had, had we not got ill.  Still a must do.

Most Inspirational Moment

the moment you get up the final steps to the sun gate at Macho Piccho was quite sureal, we've been walking for four days and all in need of a good shower and we bump straight into the average tourist on a day trip to the sites.  We had just experianced something those tourist would never know about, the trial itself as i say amazing.  the views when on top of the mountains were incredable, so don't miss out take the trip and and do the trail!!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader, Carlos, was a great guide and made all our arrangements for us sorting everything out making our life over the two weeks very easy.  I will say that i think even Carlos suffered from the pace of the trip as it's non stop for the whole two weeks and even he got a little ratty at times.  That said he was still a very good guide and worth every penny of the tip at the end.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Prior to getting to Macho Piccho you can book the Wayna Piccho mountain trail (the entrance is in Macho Piccho) and it takes about 2hours; but the sites are unbelievable and the infrastructure the incas put in place on that mountain was quite amazing and adds to the whole experiance. The only other thing i can say is be carefull what you eat if you have a delicate belly like me!!

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

The trip of a lifetime – amazing wildlife, fantastic guides, and beautiful scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting close to wild mountain gorillas is really exciting - you can't quite believe you're there and I had to pinch myself a few times. They didn't seem to mind us being in their territory at all and the babies were adorable. The trek up there makes it even more special - scrambling through jungle and up muddy slopes to reach them. A fantastic day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

All the local guides were brilliant. Nebert went out of his way to make sure everyone was happy and having a good time, and Charles' knowledge of wildlife was second to none. Albert cooked delicious meals every day and was really helpful with my egg allergy, cooking me a separate meal when necessary. He even cooked in the pouring rain and remained cheerful throughout. In short - the group leaders made the trip!

Advice for Potential Travellers

There are a lot of long trips in the truck, and some very early starts.Don't forget some antibacterial hand wash (the type you don't need water or a towel for), a head torch, and the trousers that zip off into shorts are really helpful to have with you too.

CYCLING THE CAPE & WINELANDS

An excellent trip where the first half of it is very European (Dutch and Scottish Highlands) followed by areas with different wildlife. Coastal areas provided great viewing spots for whale watching and the views were great too! Needless to say the wine was very good so bring plenty of cash for this. Local food deffinitely worth trying!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Last day cycling up to and around Chapman's Peak especially as the rainy weather gave way to sunshine.

Thoughts on Group Leader

I can safely say that our leader was second to none compared with all other work/adventure travel I've done. Nothing was too much trouble, attended to all our needs and always provided alternatives if there was no immediate solution. His local knowledge and enthusiasm was excellent which made the trip that more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Come prepared for the weather!!! The weather can be very variable especially in the winter with strong winds and driving rain followed by glorious days of sunshine. Mornings can be very cold especially at the beginning of every ride. BRING A UK TO S.A. POWER ADAPTOR. VERY DIFFICULT TO BUY LOCALLY!!!!!!!

WALKING IN SARDINIA

Amazing landscapes, mountains and beaches. The hotel was comfortable and the food was great.

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk and scamble to Tiscali was truely memorable for its challenging but stunning route.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader Rudy was the most organised and calm person I have met! He led the group from the back so ensuring whatever the abilities of the group members all had an enjoyable trip. He was an excellent guide who made the trip very memorable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring walking boots and be prepared to be fed a lot by the hotel!

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - LEMOSHO ROUTE

Very well organised

Most Inspirational Moment

How the porters and guides did their job and got you through it with a smile!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Simon was a very good group leader, kept you informed of exactly what was going on and what was to be expected every day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Drink lots!....4/5 Leters to be exact!

CYCLE THE CAMINO DE SANTIAGO

A wonderful trip – perfectly paced, a great group of people, superb guides. We laughed a lot and there was a real sense of camaraderie amongst the whole group. Cycling, picnics, swimming in a freezing river, a cold beer at the end of the day – the perfect trip.

Most Inspirational Moment

The variety of countryside along the route was wonderful. We cycled on every surface imaginable, from dirt tracks to tough mountain climbs, and from paths through vineyards to cobbled streets through beautiful villages. Each day was full of surprises and stunning views. Though no one in the group was doing the Camino for spiritual reasons, the fact that you meet so many people en route who are added a real sense of purpose to the trip and gave the feeling that we were working towards a goal of reaching Santiago.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The leaders (Jose and Diana) made the difference between a good trip and a great trip. I could not praise them highly enough - both wonderful people, both with a great sense of humour and both went out of their way to ensure we had a great time, whilst also both immersing themselves in everything we did and being part of the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Panniers are provided so you don't need a daypack - it's much better to keep your bits and pieces in your pannier rather than on your back. The cycling is achievable by anyone with a reasonable level of fitness - you don't need to be an expert or even frequent cyclist.

WALKING IN BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA

An absolutely beautiful country.  The walking was fantastic, very beautiful, sometimes challenging and sometimes the group would be the only people I would see all day.  The trip was well planned with interesting city tours, a variation of walks and the additional rafting day was brilliant. I will definitely be going back to see more.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Maglic walk has to be one of the best walks I've ever done.  It was an excellent mix of beautiful scenery, a few challenging moments, a swim in a lake (optional!) and finished with a view of the sun setting over the mountains. One of the most beautiful things I've ever seen!Sarajevo was  also a wonderful place to spend 3 days.  It was nothing like I expected it to be, but it was a lovely city with great food, beautiful buildings and friendly people.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the mountains and the history of the country which made the walks and city tours very interesting. He worked well with the group and managed the different range of abilities very well. He was also funny and sociable! I would highly recommend him.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Read up on some of the history before you go. It gives you an additional perspective if you've got some understanding of the past.

CANADIAN ROCKIES & VANCOUVER ISLAND

Mountains, glaciers, amazing blue lakes and lots of trees were on offer in abundance. Keep a sharp look-out and you might see bears and elk but you couldn’t fail to see the cheeky chipmunks and the ground squirrels. This is just the trip for the outdoor type of person.

Most Inspirational Moment

The amazing blue Peyto lake and the glacier and mini icebergs (and big fat snowflakes) at Mount Edith Cavell were some of the highlights of the trip. Pre-dawn over the bay with the tide out at Parksville gave us a magical moment. This was an unexpected hotel stop caused by the extra day spent on the ferry from Bella Coola to Port Hardy - sleeping on the floor of the ferry for the night had it's compensations!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michel was efficient and friendly - he seemed to enjoy the trip as much as we did. He worked hard to pace the days according to the capabilities of the group and was always around for queries and questions. If he didn't know the answers to the questions, then he'd find out or lend us a book with the facts (obscure botanical questions were not his forte). When the ferry captain of the boat between Bella Coola and Port Hardy was delayed at anchor by 20 hours he and the local company worked hard to re-arrange the accommodation. This had to be done several times as the captain changed his mind about the situation and the timing of our arrival in Port Hardy. Michel consulted with the whole group and a joint decision was made to drop the night in Victoria, keeping two nights near Tofino.

Advice for Potential Travellers

ATMs - make sure you know which banks use Visa and which use MasterCard. The banks in Canada use one or the other and you can waste some time finding a bank which will accept your card. Shops and restaurants will accept either.

WALKING IN SARDINIA

For anyone with coeliac disease, this trip is perfection. You get wonderful food, and lots of it. I managed to put on weight in spite of the energy expenditure, which was considerable!

Most Inspirational Moment

It was the scrambling bits - both the boulders at the end of the Gorropu Gorge, and having Rudy encouragibng me to climb right up to Tiscali. I never thought I would be able to do such things. I can't thank him enough for saying go ahead

Thoughts on Group Leader

see above. Rudy is a gem, and a gent, what else can I say

Advice for Potential Travellers

Anyone my age (63) have a go. I walk a dog 3 hours every day for exercise, I have a degenerative nerve condition which makes me weaker than I would like to be but the walks were great and certainly stretched every joint, plus overcoming the fear of heights - go for it. I wish I was still there

A WEEK IN JORDAN

It would be hard to think of a more varied and inspiring trip encompassing the ancient world, natural history, lovely local people and fine cuisine. Our guide really was a polymath of inspiration, knowledge and good humour.

Most Inspirational Moment

The blissful silence and exquisite colours of Wadi Rum and the desert Bedouin camp reminded one of how much simple pleasures are still central to the human experience and our contemplative side.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - a man for all seasons and travellors with asense of adventure.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Try to do a few "local" things yourself. There's plenty of opportunity.
