Excellent. Highly organised- so no waiting around . Very safety conscious.  Extreemely caring

I thought it was a very expensive trip for what it was and what it included. I chose single supplement which was £150 ish but when my fellow travellers asked for a single room they had to pay a £10 for the night.I took the decision to go with Exodus so knew the price for this trip was high- and I know there are bikes, a van and a tour guide. But hotels are reasonable priced so I don't know why it was quite so high.  I have been on several holidays with explore ( Cuba/ india/Spain- and Exodus, on this trip- for this time of year is very expensiveI did have a nice time though.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

The reason I went on this vacation was because I originally did a Google search for a different type of holiday without single supplements, also a short flight to a country I had not been to before & an adventure type holiday at the end of April.I had been told that Croatia was nice,in fact now I have been I am stunned how beautiful Croatia really is & in the future will go back again. This vacation ticked all the right boxes for me.

Most Inspirational Moment

There is just so much on this vacation to inspire one, there is just too much to list but cycling along tracks & quiet roads in open country side through olive groves is a truly lovely experience.Cycling from Dingac along the coast was just so scenic. It was a nice touch being taken to small villages off the beaten track to enjoy meals prepared by the local people who are just so pleasant. The other 5 people I met up with on this holiday were a lovely crowd which put the iceing on the cake.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bojan our tour leader was not only just a wonderful guide he was a friend. He looked after everybody every step of the way & was concerned for everybodies welfare. He has great communication skills  & was just so nice to have around,he recommended places to eat & really enjoyed socialising with all us holiday clients.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The only advice I would say to anybody going on this type of vacation is that although you don,t need to be an olympian athlete, you do need a good level of fitness to benefit & fully enjoy this holiday.I found in April the temperature can range from chilly to quite warm & there is more of a risk of rain off season. I was fortunate that it never rained at any time when I was cycling.

Suggestions

I originally was a bit apprenhensive about going on a cycling holiday but having now been cycling on The Dalmation coast all I would say to anybody thinking of doing this holiday is as Nike says "Just Do It",you won,t regret it.It has been a truly positive experience,Croatia is a beautiful scenic country with great infrastuture.I don,t know why I have not been before. This has been my first Exodus holiday & after this experience I will be looking through the Exodus brochures for another future adventure.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

Fantastic scenery and good biking routes. However not for the unfit or non-cyclists. There are some long hilly sections which are quite tough if unprepared. Overall a fantastic experience…

Most Inspirational Moment

The island of Mljet trip is not to be missed. That was a superb day out! Also the cycle on the last day we biked through some incredible scenery..

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fantastic Leader. Ana was fun, informative and extremely well organised. She knows the bike routes and ferry times and made sure we managed our time properly! Also there were no hassles with the bikes.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get your fitness levels up and practice biking on hilly routes. You will really enjoy the trip much more! Also be aware that you will be spending a lot of time in a group situation with strangers. If that is not to your liking, this may not be the right kind of trip for you. We we fortunate as we had a great group of people and a superb leader.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

A great trip with some ery nice people and a very helpful guide. The star of the trip was Croatia – it is very beautiful!

Most Inspirational Moment

The sweeping roads by the sea

She was excellent

Advice for Potential Travellers

Don't assume "moderate" doesn't involve some tough sections!

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

Cycling the Damation Coast is up there with my favourite holidays! A great was to see Croatia, visitng some of the Islands and taking in the spectacular views. I was lucky to be with some great people so we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs.More challenging than I was expecting, but for me that just made the experience better! The hotels weren’t up to much at all, so a good job we didn’t spend much time in them.  The first hotel had so many steps and no one to help with the cases.  A bit disappointing considering the cost of the holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The trip to Mljet.  A very pretty place so take advantage of this day trip - not to be missed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was a great tour leader.  Very knowledgeable and professional.  She was supportive of all reglardless of their fitness level and those with quirky fears (I am a complete scardey cat when it comes to cycling down very steep hills).

Advice for Potential Travellers

Get some cycling training in as it's tougher than it's advertised as being.  Perhaps attend some spinning classes.  I really enjoyed it but others struggled. Also the beaches are mostly pebbles and stones, so bring appropriate footwear for walking into the water.

Suggestions

if you're hesitating as to whether to book, just go for it - a great experience!

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

A fabulous adventure, exploring a stunningly beautiful part of Croatia. Great company, spectacular sceanery, challenging cycle routes (no-one told me it was a hilly place before I went) and wonderful ice-cream – what more could you want?

Most Inspirational Moment

The best cycling day was definatly the last - the downhill coastal path was breathtaking, and we stopped for photos so many times that we missed lunch! However, my personal highlight was when we were joined by a pod of dolphins in the water on the ferry crossing from Hvar to the mainland - absolutely brilliant watching them jump playfully in the water around the boat.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Bojan is new to Exodus and did a great job organising and motivating such a diverse group of people. He was great fun, very sociable and was up to the challenges of games of tennis and ping-pong laid down by various members of the group (and he always won, I warn you now). He's also pretty good at eating ice-cream too, and you can be assured he'll point out the best places in town.  His sense of humour was fantastic, and he seemed to really understand how to get the best out of each cyclist, offering the right amount of support to help us all achieve our full cycling potential.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Looking back on the trip, overall I would say that it was fantastic, and I have come home with a great desire to visit the Dalmatian Coast again. The beaches and islands are absolutely beautiful, and cycling gives you the opportunity to explore the less well travelled paths (such as the coastal path on the last day). However, I would say that a few of us found that we were slightly unprepared for the level of fitness required for some of the more "undulating" routes! The first day includes a 10km uphill stretch, and if that doesn't mean that much to you (as it didn't to me before I went) then it means peddling uphill continuously for a very long time!! I certainly wasn't fit enough for it, and walked part of the way (and I wonder whether this climb ought to be removed from the trip) The second day also has a pretty long uphill stretch, which was very tough going in the heat, with a head wind - I guess I would advise you to carefully consider the time of year that you go, do some training beforehand to get the most enjoyment out of your holiday and, for the novices amoungst you, I would advise learning a little bit about how to work with your gears and how to maximise your efficeincy when cycling on very "undulating" terrain. But when cycling along the coast, every "up" must have its "down" and the downhill stretches were absolutely amazing. As for other practical details: wear layers on the jounrney out to Croatia - it was about 8 degrees when I left my home in the morning, and about 28 degrees as we wandered round Split in the evening, so you want to make sure you're dressed for both! ATMs were widely available and we ended up spending about 50 kuna on lunch, and 100 kuna on dinner (minus drinks). (Ice cream was only 8 kuna!!). Other advice - wear lots of sun-screen and you don't need a water-back-pack (all the bikes have a water bottle holder). Consider isotonic sports drinks if going in the summer, as we ended up drinking huge amounts of water and yes - people did wear padded cycling shorts! Charging cameras and phones was not a problem, so go wild with your photos (and don't forget to look out for the dolphins on the crossing!)

Suggestions

This was a solo departure, and I have to say it was brilliant. The group was a fantastic mix of people, and even though we differed in age, we bonded well and I have made some great friends. I will certainly be looking out for solo departures again in the future. The days were also well filled, with the whole group staying together for meals, so the trip is well suited for the solo traveller.    Unfortunately we didn't get to go to Mljet, as Croatia's only two bad weather days that they get a year, fell on the two days that we could have gone, but instead Bojan found us a great little cycle route, and sandy beach to relax on (with ice cream of course). We found that we were very much in need of a relaxing day, however, despite finding the cycling hard work at times, I was heart-broken to give me bike back at the end of the week, and have come home eager to find my next cycling holiday.  So overall, as long as you're fairly fit, then I would highly recommend this trip!

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

A beautiful series of rides through idyllic countryside, pretty villages and dramatic coastlines.  The routes were varied: Croatian gravel, unmade roads, sealed minor roads and main roads – steep and gentle hills, some undulating territory, all manageable even to beginner riders.

Most Inspirational Moment

I'll never forget the exhilarating ride on the last day - through the scary tunnel, out to the brilliant sunshine, then downhill beside sheer cliffs, the sea and vineyards,  to a pebbly beach and fabulous swim.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Ana was well organised, fun and enthusiastic.  Together with Boris she made a perfect holiday for us, topped off with a very stirring rendition of the Croatian national anthem.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You will love it!Bring wet weather gear. The optional ride to the national park is a perfect adventure.

Suggestions

Take lots of photos.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

This is a good cycling holiday in a lovely area, but it is expensive.  We had a small but very select and fun group!

Most Inspirational Moment

Cycling on the beautiful Dalmatian coast.

Thoughts on Group Leader

She was very good; efficient and friendly

Advice for Potential Travellers

You need to be fairly fit to cope with the hills, and some distances in the heat.  Not too much for vegetarians to eat! But the fish is good.  Single rooms in the hotels were often not very good and poor value for money.

Suggestions

Be prepared to be spending a lot more money for food, guides and the Mljet trip.  Also, beware of the grill used to cook the fish on the Mljet boat; there is no warning that it is still extremely hot as it hangs on the railings.

Made it!!

Although the trip was harder than expected/advertised as moderate rating (it said no cycling experience necessary – not true!!) There were hills to tackle daily, but  I found that ‘extra push’ to get up the hills, and felt great by the end of the trip!  Helped of course by the fantastic scenery.

Most Inspirational Moment

Managing to make it to the top of hills and not being last in the group!!  Also the beautiful scenery and weather.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was absolutely lovely.  A very calm, capable and responsible person for a young guy.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared to push yourself - its worth it!!

Cycling the Dalmatian Coast

Croatia is truly stunning with beautiful towns and villages and translucent sea lapping at the shore. The cycling had great variety although "hilly" may be a more apt description than "undulating". However, the group all managed and had a great time.

Most Inspirational Moment

Arriving in very pretty towns and villages with very few other tourists was special. However, my favourite day was the Thurrsday (last day of cycling before free day in Dubrovnik) as the cycling that day has a bit of everything (off road downhill, offroad flat, road) and its probably the prettiest scenery. The last section of this day (post lunch stop) is approximately 29km and apparently optional although everyone in our group cycled it. Although it starts with a 3km climb it really was the best cycling of the week and gets faster and faster towards the end so does not feel anything like 29km.  Seeing Dolphins swimming at the bow of our ferry was quite cool too!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our leader for the week was Bojan (pronounced Boyan) and he was a great guy and patiently looked after all of the group and our never ending questions. No point in challenging him to a game of tennis or table tennis as you are likely to lose!  He has a competitive streak.

Advice for Potential Travellers

1. The day of arrival in Split is a long one and assuming you are arriving in the summer months it would be a good idea to wear shorts or something cool as you go straight from the airport to a tour of Split - a very hot Split the day we arrived. The ferry to Hvar is in the evening so you might also want to think about having something to slip on if it cools down on the ferry crossing. 2. The breaks on your bike are the opposite way round to the UK. Kind of useful to know when you pull away from your first hotel and cycle down hill! 3. Grappa may well be a local alcoholic beverage but probably best saved for domestic cleaning purposes. 4. If you like really good ice cream - this is the trip for you.

Suggestions

This was my second Exodus cycling trip. I previously did the Vietnam trip. The distances for this trip are shorter but possibly more hills. Some bike fitness prior to the trip will help you get the full benefit but book it anyway!
