CYCLING IN SARDINIA

Awesome trip to Sardinia’s west coast. Cycling in the hills was really nice and the scenery was fantastic.

Most Inspirational Moment

The hills to reach the destination for a picnic lunch! The weather was spectacular every day for us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

LOVED the group leader, Michele. Very attentive, speaks English well and cares about every individual in the group. Enrico was also with us and cared about everyone, attentive as well. The two of them were great and I would have them again on the next trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Practice hills. It is not a race so you do not have to practice riding fast. It is not a difficult vacation of hills (Amalfi Coast is harder) but you do need to know how to climb 10% grade hills for several Kms. Just practice them and you will do well on this vacation. It is for every age and size, as long as you practice.

BHUTAN: LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGON

I absolutely loved this trip!! Bhutan is a very fascinating country with beautiful people and amazing scenery. The combination of trekking in the Himalaya and experiencing the culture is absolutely mindblowing and I can highly recommend this trip to everyone!

Most Inspirational Moment

Trekking through the Himalaya was mindblowing for me. You don't get to meet any people and can walk in your own pace in a breathtaking environment and that to me was sooo amazing. Also being able to learn about the culture and attend the Thimphu festival was a definate highlight.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Pasang and Dorji were absolutely fantastic tourguides who took care of everyone at all times. They were very knowledgeable and easy-going. If I ever come back to Bhutan I would make sure that either one of them would lead the tour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Trekking in altitude is definately something different then doing the same amount of kilometres in 'normal' conditions so make sure to be fit... Also make sure to take a shirt with a collar cause otherwise you cannot attend the Thimphu festival. This was not mentioned as clearly in our tripnotes so a couple of people ended up borrowing shirts from the guys...

CYCLING VIETNAM

Fabulous hokiday, cycling was great and a perfect way to see any country, but there were also the people, the cities, the history & of course the food. There is a lot of time spent transferring by coach and I was quite concerned by this before we travelled, but it is worth it to have so many wonderful, varied experiences. Our guides were excellent and the support staff made us very welcome.  The cycling is not too challenging in itself, but the heat/humidity do make it seem harder, especially on the climbs, however the van is there to give you a lift if you need it!

Most Inspirational Moment

I think everyone must rave about Halong Bay, absolutely stunning, and don't miss the sea kayaks. The children were a constant source of entertainment, but watch out for the occassional over-energetic high 5! For me the best scenery when cycling was from Nha Trang to Quy Nhon, couldn't take enough pictures, but there were numerous other highlights as well.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had 2 leaders due to an unfortunate bereavement for Lam after 1 week. Lam was a total joy to be around with the most infectious smile. Linh was a great guide, telling us lots about the history of the country and worked hard to ensure we were getting the most out of our trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The bikes are good and pretty comfy, but I did wish that I'd taken a gel seat cover with me.

IMPERIAL CHINA & YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE

We booked this trip without having been on a touring holiday before. We did not really know what to expect. The trip notes that were sent were excellent and gave us a good idea of what types of accomodation we would be staying in. We had a fantastic time and would recommend this trip as you get to see all the major cultural sites. Whilst it is a bit hectic for the first 8 or 9 days you do get a chance to relax towards the end.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Great Wall of China is awesome and even though it came at the beginning of the trip it was fantastic and is something I will never forget. I have not seen photo's or video footage that does it justice it really is a WOW moment when you get to the wall itself and see it snaking away over precipitous hills. This does not mean the rest of the trip was an anticlimax, far from it. Everything we saw was interesting and there were other wow moments throughout the trip. The only down side I can think off was the trip to the Great Buddha, whilst this is a magnificent statue cut into the cliff all the travelling for 10 minutes there was a bit much.

Thoughts on Group Leader

William was great. He could not do enough for us. His knowledge of the cultural sites was in depth and he gave us it small chunks so that we could digest a little bit at a time. We had a disparate group and William made sure all the party were catered for, from letting some of us hike the Great Wall for 4 hours to making sure the less able of the group still got a chance to see it and arranging local guides to help. His choice of restaurants and local knowledge of the places we visited made sure we tasted the real China. Not all the meals were to my taste as I must admit I did get a bit tired of rice and noodles but that is no fault of Williams jsut me having a westerm palate. My camera broke after just 5 days there and William was great in helping me buy a new one as there is not a lot of English spoken in rural China. If you go on this trip and get William as a guide you will have a great time

Advice for Potential Travellers

The trip is quite hectic at first and there is some lugging of cases and time spent in railway stations but it is all worth it. The train journeys can be a little drawn out and whilst they have improved the third leg of the trip I would still recommend taking a sleeping bag liner. Just go with an open mind and you will have the experience of a lifetime.

IMPERIAL CHINA & YANGTZE RIVER CRUISE

An absolutely fantastic once in a lifetime holiday!

Most Inspirational Moment

Where do I start? I suppose it would have to be walking on the great wall, such an amazing surreal experince, 3 hours did not feel long enough you just wanted to keep walking another tower then another tower.  It was great that we were taken to a quiet part of the wall this allowed us to get some great photo's and fully enjoy the experience, well worth the early morning and long drive.I was really looking forward to seeing the Panda's at the breeding centre in Chengdu, they didn't dissapoint one little bit they were so cute to watch and we were also lucky enough to see 2 babies! 1 a couple of weeks old the other a couple of months WOWThe overnight stay in Tongli was good, such a great little town with bags of character and some great shops for buying souvenirs. To keep the list short my favourite place was Xi'an, a lovely city, the highlight being cycling around the city walls. One last thing, I was part of a great group, everybody was really nice and got on so well that this contributed greatly to the whole experience.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was Emma.  I don't think we could have had a nicer person for the job, she was very bubbly and chatty and got on well with everybody in the group.  Her organisational skills were impecable and she always made sure everything ran smoothly and dealt with any problems that arose efficiently. You could ask anything of her and she would go out of her way to help.  I wanted to visit a taylor to have some suits made, she phoned a personal friend of hers in Shanghai and got a name and address of a good one for me to visit.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Yes take the advice about a sleeping bag liner lol! I wasn't going to bother but was persuaded otherwise by fellow travellers in the departure lounge.  You may want to use it for all 3 journeys, as we discovered that they don't change the bedding they just shake it fold it and put it back on the beds!Use the departure lounge before you travel to get to know other people on your trip, that's what it is there for and is great for swapping travelling trips and getting some very usefull advice. For the early morning start to visit thr great wall, take a pillow so you can sleep more comfortably on the coach.

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

Amazing trip! Well organised, diverse and inspiring!

Most Inspirational Moment

Uganda is beautiful! I had no idea of what to expect from this country as I did not know much about it but would go back in a heart beat!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Often and his team were amazing! So helpful and hard working, always a smile and a listening ear!

Advice for Potential Travellers

Book it! Make sure you have a good camera and torch!

PHOTOGRAPHIC SAFARI

A fantastic week amongst the big cats of the Mara.  We were based in comfortable and roomy tents with all mod cons and fed superbly by the camp chefs.

Most Inspirational Moment

It has to be the privilege of seeing, at close quarters, a leopard with her three cubs.  I went on this trip hoping we might be able to see a leopard and came back having had good views of nine.A close second would be our visits to the Marsh pride at dawn.  Seeing the lions' breath backlit by the rising sun was pure magic.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Paul Goldstein is like the bionic man; his energy never fails and he invariably makes the right call to give his groups the most outstanding photographic opportunities.  Don't go on his holidays for a rest!Charles, Patrick and James were all both very friendly and superb spotters and did their utmost to manoeuvre the Land Cruisers into the best positions for photography.Darren and Emma could not have been better camp hosts and all their staff were friendly and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take plenty of sun cream, drink plenty of water and don't get upset if you receive some fairly blunt advice about your photographic techniques!

MONT BLANC HOTEL TREK

Very enjoyable trip, well worth the effort involved. I thought the accomodation was exactly as described in the trip notes. Even where basic it was very clean, when "splendid" it was indeed splendid. All the accomodation felt very homely and authentic. I loved the food, being a fan of cheese. The views were incredible. I found the two weeks to be a great relaxing break from "real life", and I would love to go again. It was well worth it to have a bed each night after the walk.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved every day, and the fact that it is a circuit with a long history. Some of the refuges we stopped in were very cute, but mostly I just loved being on the cols looking at the panoramas.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Liz kept us well informed but didn't overwhelm us with the difficulty, I think this helped people to keep their confidence up so that they could take the journey one step at a time.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It is important to be fit enough to enjoy the trip so that you don't dread the climbs each day. Don't underestimate the difficulty, it really is challenging, particularly the last few days. I think poles are essential. Ability in French will help you to enjoy the cultural aspects.

MACHU PICCHU & THE AMAZON RAINFOREST

it was an amazing adventure one i will never forget, i still dont think i had time to take everything in which is why in a couple of years i will be coming back on the same trek.

Most Inspirational Moment

walking through the sun gate and arriving at the top of the mountain over looking machu piccchu it was magical especially after the walk to get there.

Thoughts on Group Leader

flaminia was very knowledgeable about all areas that needed covering.

Advice for Potential Travellers

definatly goooooooo its amazing.

GORILLAS & MASAI MARA

An excellent trip which explored 3 countrys with lots of wildlife and contact with local people.

Most Inspirational Moment

My first close up sighting of a mountain Gorilla.

Thoughts on Group Leader

An excellant leader who cared about us and our experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I travelled on a reverse itenary which sufferes some disadvantages over the forward trip.
