Next, we travel (25 minutes) to Radomire, gateway to the Korab mountains. We take a refreshing walk (one hour) to Liqeni i Zi (Black Lake), enjoying the pristine nature, before returning to Radomire for coffee and a chance to soak in the serene atmosphere.

Gain a deeper understanding of the Kosovo War in Prekaz • Tour the highlights of Prishtina

Depart Prizren and transfer (1hr 10min) to Prekaz. Here, we visit a deeply moving site, the Adem Jashari Memorial Complex. It’s dedicated to Adem Jashari and his family, who were killed in a brutal siege by Serbian forces in 1998. Their sacrifice became a pivotal moment and symbol of resistance leading to the Kosovo War. We take our time to explore the complex, which includes the remnants of the Jashari family homes, their graves, and a museum dedicated to their story. This extended visit allows for deeper reflection and understanding of this crucial period in Kosovo’s modern history.

We continue our understanding of the period with a visit to Gazimestan, a memorial site commemorating the Battle of Kosovo, before visiting the tomb of Ottoman Sultan Murad I.

Finally, we transfer (one hour) to Prishtina, the capital of Kosovo. Its Serbo-Byzantine style is reason enough to visit but inside we can admire the medieval paintings and a cavern of murals.

After lunch, we travel (1hr 30min) to Peja Orthodox Monastery and Church, on the outskirts of Peja. Visually striking, it’s also an important religious institution as well as being the seat for the old Serbian empire. Food & Drink

Food in Albania is quite varied thanks to the many influences on the country, particularly from Turkey, Greece and Italy. Dairy products, especially milk and yoghurt, are present in almost every meal, usually locally sourced. Kosovar food is equally influenced by Balkan, Turkish and Mediterranean cuisines.

We recommend you always drink bottled water. The most environmentally friendly method is to share the larger reusable glass bottles served in most restaurants.

Transport

We use a private bus, the size of which will depend on the group size, with a local driver.

Weather & Seasonality

Albania generally experiences a Mediterranean climate with summer temperatures at 25C-30C (77F-86F) on average in the day. The warmest months are July and August, when temperatures can rise to 35C (95F) or above. Kosovo mostly has a continental climate, with dry, hot summers and cold winters.

Money

Albania's currency: Albanian lek (ALL)

Kosovo's currency: Euro (EUR)

ATM Availability

Albania and Kosovo have a good network of cash machines, which can be used to withdraw local currency. However, currency exchange shops provide a better exchange rate than ATMs.

In Albania, many shops and restaurants in the main cities also accept euros, which are exchanged by the businesses on the spot at a disadvantaged rate (change is given in local currency). Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in shops for larger purchases.

Extra Expenses & Spending Money

Allow about €250-€300 for lunches, evening meals and drinks. You will notice that prices in the mountains and along the coast are very different. In the mountains, prices are generally much cheaper.

Tipping

Our local staff are paid fairly for their work; however, most wish to tip the tour leader in appreciation of their help and friendliness. This is not compulsory and depends on the service received. If you feel you would like to leave a tip, as a guideline we would suggest approximately €50 per group member on this itinerary to be broken down as follows:

  • €30 for the tour leader
  • €20 for the driver

In restaurants, the bill is usually rounded up to include a tip.

Sustainability and Impact

As a certified B Corp, we’re on a mission to improve our social and environmental impact across all our adventures.

We do this through our innovative Thriving Nature, Thriving People plan.

This ‘nature positive’ approach is designed to help nature and communities thrive in harmony through practical solutions, such as reducing carbon and waste on our trips, supporting conservation projects through the Exodus Adventure Travels Foundation, and rewilding 100 square metres for every Exodus traveller.
