KENYA & TANZANIA ADVENTURE

This holiday was a holiday with a difference, nothing that I have ever experience before but it was fantastic. I did enjoyed the moving around bit, and camping out in the various camp sites. The crew members were so efficient thats made a big difference as well. Seeing all the animals topped it for me absolutely brilliant.

Most Inspirational Moment

Well its really hard to say because every moment of it was inspirational. One of the optional activities that I did in Tanzania was going for a walk through the local community to see how they live and how they do stuff. We also visited a school which was really lovely.Driving through the safari and seeing all the wild animals in thier natural habitat not influence by humans was unbelieveable. For me also just being in africa was inspirational enough for me. Zanzibar was lovely as well sand and sea can't top that. Overall a brilliant trip money well spent.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was great, Moses was is name. He worked hard to satisfied all our needs and quickly to resolve any problems are issues that occured. He was so patient and tried to accommodate us so that we could see and take pictures of things we wanted. He also knows alot about the animals and the history of the countries we visited. He also made us feel safe and comfortable throughout our time there which was a big part of why I personally enjoyed the trip. I also have to mention his team the driver and the cook they also did a fantastic job. I have no complains, all I have is praises for the group leader and his team.

Advice for Potential Travellers

My advice to potential travellers have an open mind and enjoy the experience. If you have never been on a holiday like this before its different but enjoyable at the same time. Just keep an open mind.

SIERRA DE AITANA TREK

An excellent trip to a beautiful and perhaps under-explored part of Spain. The walking is quite strenuous, but makes the wonderful dinners at the end of each day all the more welcome.

Most Inspirational Moment

The feeling of being so close to the crush of Benidorm, yet a million miles away was very special. On some walks we barely saw anyone else from beginning to end, and it really felt as if we were walking ancient trails. On the day we went to the summit of Aitana, having tackled a bit of a scarey scramble and got through a slightly tricky pass, we lunched on a beautiful, sheltered patch of grass, almost a lawn, and Jose (our guide) produced a bottle of red wine he had carried with him to accompany our lunch. It felt so strangely civilised in such a remote place.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Jose led the group with great local knowledge, unstinting humour, skill and sandwiches. Jose's sandwiches should be the stuff of legend: it became a challenge for anyone in the group to finish them, double-deckered and full of amazing Good Things. Don't be misled when the trip notes say lunches will consist of 'a sandwich', these are sandwiches of epic proportions!!He also displayed marvellous hospitality, inviting us to his house in Sella - although there was a cost (we had to help with his olive harvest - hardly a chore!). Jose was an absolutely integral part of the week's enjoyment.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take decent kit as the walks are 'proper'. That said, don't be put off by anyone that says the walks are tough - they're not a stroll in the proverbial park, but our group had quite a mixture of ages and fitness levels, and no-one really struggled. I would recommend walking poles - I didn't take them, and could have done with them on some of the 'down's.The food in the hotels/guests houses is amazing, very local and very hearty. You won't lose any weight on this holiday!

EVEREST BASE CAMP & GOKYO LAKES

A great trip and I was very pleased that I opted for this trip rather than the Everest Base Camp dash. The route to the Gokyo lakes was well worth the extra time required.

Gokyo Ri, crossing the Cho La Pass and associated glacier and making Base Camp.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our guide Dawa Sherpa and 'RB', assistant guide were great, they were always smiling, incredibly attentive to all that was happening within the group and made sure that we were well looked after in each Tea House. We had one case of altitude sickness within the group and this was dealt with most efficiently and with complete understanding for all members of the group.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I had picked up a respiratory infection which did not kick in until about day 2 of the trek when at first I thought it may have been altitude sickness. (Diamox was being used). Breathing suffered for the rest of the trip until I was able to get an examination and atibiotics on the way down in Pheriche, too late for any real relief unfortunately. So I would recommend discussing this situation with your doctor though they may be reluctant about perscribing antibiotics when fit and well! And, forget about showers and washing, baby wipes and facial wipes suffice, it is too cold for that sort of exposure. Note - ice on the inside of the bedroom windows in the morning!

KERALA & TROPICAL INDIA

This holiday was one of the best experiences of my life, it was well organised throughout and at no time did I feel unsafe or unsure about what was going to happen next. It was described as challenging and it certainly wasn’t for the faint hearted, but truthfully anyone with a good level of fitness and a positive attitude towards traffic cycling and a strong desire to experience travel with a capital T would love it.

Oh my word I absolutely loved every single moment, I saw so much, felt so much, enjoyed so much being on the bike and right there in the life of India, the hussle and bussle of the cities, the quiet of the countryside, the children calling out to us, the people all wishing us well along our way, the temples, the wildlife, the sun, the rain, the ocean, the food....I had come alone and so many times I wished my family there just to see what I was seeing, to hear what I was hearing, to smell what I was smelling....it was all awe inspiring....fantastic.

He was brilliant, he seemed very knowledgeable about all the places he took us to, he was also very interested in us as a group and what our life was like at home. He always seemed concerned about our well being and making sure we had everything that we needed, nothing seemed like too much trouble.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you want to do this trip, you will need a certain level of fitness, do some hill work for sure, and not be timid in busy traffic situations. It's going to be hot most of the time but not unbearable and you do acclimatise. I didn't take my own saddle and pedals but if I was to do it again I would bring my own saddle for sure, as for the clip on pedals, I advise leave them at home, you will spend your entire trip clipping in and out especially in the towns, and even way out in the villages as you do have to have your wits about you at all times. Don't worry about money, cashpoints readily available, but do inform your bank about where you are going.Take insect repellent you will need it, and don't forget your camera because this is one trip you will never want to forget.

PETRA & WADI RUM TREK

A very enjoyable holiday with a good cross section of people. The biggest surprise was the weather which was a lot hotter than anticipated for November.

Enjoyed the ascent of the Bridge at Burdah and my first experience of a Turkish Bath.

Had every confidence in the leader who was always helpful with a good sense of humour.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for hot weather in November and remember the sunscreen. It was still warm at night. Wet wipes are probably the most useful things for camping in the desert! There is no need to carry much water as the back-up system from the jeeps was excellent and ensured that we always had plenty of water. Don't underestimate the difficulty of walking in soft sand and expect to have to empty your boots of sand on a regular basis!

VIETNAM ADVENTURE

Beautiful country, amazing food & great group of people!

Most Inspirational Moment

Too many to name only one! Halong Bay was stunning & a wonderful way to start the trip. The boat was lovely & kayaking in the bay was great fun. Hoi An was fantastic, and it was good to have a few days there. The cycling trip in particular was a highlight, as was the Vietnamese cooking course. Mekong Delta was a great way to end the trip too, with the Homestay being much nicer than I expected, and the area itself was fascinating. To be honest, there were no days on the trip in which we didn't do or see something amazing!

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was great - well organised, friendly and was very attentive to the group and made every effort to ensure we enjoyed ourselves and saw the best of the areas we went too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a small rucksack for the overnight stay on the boat in Halong Bay & the Homestay in the Mekong Delta.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MOROCCO

A well balanced trip to see most of the key places and sights in Morocco. However our free day in Marrakech was spoilt due to the Festival of Eid which meant that virtually everything was shut.

Our group leader was excellent and could not have been more helpful and ready to explain anything we asked.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Most important is not to travel during the Festival of Eid (15th October 2013) as virtually all of Morocco shuts down. On our trip the Festival of Eid co-incided with our free day in Marrakech. As virtually everything was shut, it meant that there was very little to do and made the end of the holiday finish on a real low. It even affected our guided tour round the old city as everything was shutting early and the guide had to rush to get us round before they closed. You also need to be aware that on the day of the festival, they burn the sacrificed sheep's carcasses on the street corners (not a very pleasant smell)The standard itinerary does not use any riads and the rooms are pretty basic, so we would have liked to have taken the upgrade accommodation option if it had been available to us.

KILIMANJARO CLIMB - LEMOSHO ROUTE

What an amazing experience which should definitely go on anyone’s "To Do List" of lifetime achievements if you enjoy trekking and the adrenalin rush of summiting a mountain. With a 96% success rate, the Lemosho route comes highly recommended as your choice of route to take to summit Kili. The African Walking Company who Partner Exodus locally in Tanzania were exceptional. The knowledge and care of the guides and porters were amazing – they want each and every client to summit so taking on board all their advice is mandatory. Whilst there isn’t as much scenery as on other trips, every day’s walking was different and enjoyable and challenging.

Most Inspirational Moment

Sunrise at Stella Point and getting to the highest point in Africa, Uhuru Peak. I was buzzing for days afterwards. When you consider that the tiny plane I took from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro only just flew above the mountain you realise just how far you have actually climbed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent! I couldn't fault any of the local organisation. The Chief Guides and Assistant Guides seemed to know how we were feeling each and every day and knew what we were thinking. Fantastic.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You are advised to take a mat with you to sleep on. You can either take your own (which you have to deflate and pack each day) or hire one at the cost of 25 Pounds Sterling for the whole trip. Definitely hire one - well worth it as the ground can be rocky. You need all the energy you can get for summit day so sleeping comfortably in the tent is a definite plus point. Fleece trousers are fantastic. Very lightweight and not very expensive (North Face). Great for keeping you warm at night without having to put on too many layers. You definitely need a good down jacket for summit day. I would also recommend mittens as opposed to outer gloves for summit day. These would be much easier to get on over your inner gloves when it is freezing cold - pushing your fingers through is almost impossible. Mittens are already on my "To Buy" list for my next trip.

ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY

A hugely rewarding trip. Be prepared for very basic accommodation. Physically challenging but worth every bit of effort and hardship to get to the top. We all run out of superlatives to describe the landspace and scenery but suffice to say you cannot fail to be hugely impressed.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the Annapurna base camp was a massive achievement for us all. As a group we all got on very well and the spirit of the group helped us all up. The base camp at Annapurna is absolutely stunning and the day spent wandering around the base of the mountains will live long in my memories. Another great moment was the first hot shower after reaching the top ! I really needed that !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our group leader was passionate about the spirit of the mountains and beauty of the environment and it was a joy to have him as our leader. He knew exactly what to do when people needed his help or advice on the trek and its no coincidence that we all made it. We also had some really great guides who were happy and smiling people who were helpful and always lifted the spirits of the trekkers.

Advice for Potential Travellers

You really have to be prepared to rough it during the trek. So long as you dont mind the odd squat toilet, sharing a room for a few nights and being cold then you'll get on fine. It's worth it !
