Jewel in the desert

Jordan really is full of exquisite treasures of castles, forgotten worlds and mystical desert valleys with the most welcoming people. This is a fantastic tour to see all the highlights at a decent pace.

Most Inspirational Moment

Floating in the dead sea, Petra's monastery and place of high sacrifice, the walk back along the hidden tombs and of course a night in Wadi Rum stargazing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Mikhled is a natural leader with a great sense of humour and engaging character. He has a wealth of knowledge of his country's history and culture always answering questions and giving just the right amount of information. Very helpful and caring and quick to resolve any issues.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Now is the time to go ‐it's safe and fairly quiet. Almost as if it were 30 years ago!

Bosnia Plus

A varied and interesting trip in a small very friendly group

Most Inspirational Moment

Visiting Sarajevo and driving up into the mountains of Montenegro and Bosnia

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. We were her first solo tour and she did everything to keep us comfortable and well informed

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take walking boots. There were several stony paths and steps.

What a trip!

Superb exotic and fascinating silk road

Both Vitali and Dilshod were brilliant

A great trip to a beautiful part of Italy

Cycling holidays in Italy are always good – it’s the combination of the exercise, the food and the towns and this one gives you the amazing Amalfi coast as well. The trip is a great way to see it . The main towns of Amalfi and Positano are pretty popular these days and so cycling to / through them gives you the highlights and the views without over-exposure to the crowds. Minori, where we stay the last three nights, is a good base and much quieter. The first few cycling days are off the beaten track, with less traffic, nice villages / harbours plus the excellent Ancient Greek site of Paestum. A nice balance with good accommodations throughout.

Most Inspirational Moment

The last day of cycling - cycling the Amalfi coast road itself and going over the hill to Sorrento for lunch with the view of Vesuvius across the bay. The ‘free day’ walk up to Ravello and then down to Amalfi itself was wonderful too. And Paestum!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Super. Paulo is experienced, calm and knowledgeable, has excellent English and is very good company. Emilio our driver/ mechanic was excellent too.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Compared with the two other Exodus ‘moderates’ we’ve done, this has shorter distances but longer ascents. As my wife isn’t keen on long ascents, and as I like to take lots of photos on the way, we decided to have e-bikes. It worked very well. Our group of 11 was pretty fast. Having E-bikes meant that we caused very little ‘waiting / catching up’ time and we never worried about how we would do on the tougher days. We generally kept in the middle of the group unless I was taking photos and fell behind. The e-bikes were of course heavier than normal but easy to get used to and had great battery life. I was worried it would mean no exercise but in fact I was in control and could still give myself a work out. I mainly used ‘eco’ unless I was behind and catching-up the group. The e-bike made the trip for my wife . After ten group cycling holidays, we were thinking of packing it in, but we now know we can continue something we really enjoy. The e-bike made this otherwise tricky ‘moderate’ very doable for us. Note: cycling the Amalfi coast road takes a bit of getting used to. It seems pretty ‘hairy’ when you start early in the morning; there are plenty of buses and motor bikes as well as cars and if you’re a nervous rider it may not be for you. But you do get used to it and you realise that the locals generally know what they’re doing. When you come back in the afternoon it’s less busy, you know what to expect and it’s fantastic - the highlight of the trip and a memorable day’s cycling you won’t forget.

My Portuguese Camino

As a senior I found the two longer mileage days a bit of a challenge but overall it was a great walking holiday. The hotels and the food were excellent. I especially enjoyed the boat trip, as well as walking the final three days to Santiago, like real pilgrims. The medieval border town of Tui was fascinating. I loved the stone and water route on Day 6. Sadly we had to walk the last 5 miles to Santiago in the rain, which was disappointing. The scenery was varied along the way although I found some sections alongside the road tedious.

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the top of the hill in the forest before descending to the monastery at Armenteira! Enjoying my picnic at the top of the hill that day and our drinks at the cafe by the Monastery at the end of the walk.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Al was a very friendly guide who mainly kept to Spanish times which meant that there could be up to 3 hours between breaks and lunch was mid afternoon.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Go for this holiday as you will feel a sense of achievement when you finish, despite possible sore feet. I found my poles invaluable.

Trip of a lifetime

The whole trip was truly amazing. I did both the Amazon and Lake Titicaca extensions, which logistically was complicated but it was all made easy with Exodus. The most impressive thing was that my luggage made it through a total of 5 airport connections and a 10 hour bus ride!
The Inca Trail trek to Machu Picchu was the best yet, hard in places (day 2 getting to dead womans pass) but so worth it. Met a brilliant group of people, only 8 of us which was the perfect size, Best Group Ever 🙂

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking through the sun gate and getting that first look at Machu Picchu

Thoughts on Group Leader

William was so good, could not do enough for us, on call 24/7 and went out of his way to make sure we had the best possible most enjoyable stay and trek. Felt completely safe in his hands and well looked after.

Advice for Potential Travellers

No matter how you train and what you do, day 2 going over Dead Womans Pass is going to be hard. Simply prepare for it and take it steady, enjoy the stunning beauty of the place you are in. And breathe.

Great trip

Very enjoyable trip. Varied countryside and wonderful coastal views. Good hotels and access to fab food and wonderful wines. Lovely to have a bit of time in Porto, Obidos and Lisbon. I would advise to arrive early and/or stay on to really get the benefit of being This is marked as a level 2 but has two parts that are definitely a 3, but it is all totally doable. The bikes are good and up to the task. Altogether I can fully recommend this tour.

Most Inspirational Moment

Difficult to pick one as there were many. The coastline, Porto, Obidos and Lisbon as well as cycling through beautiful countryside.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent. Attentive, supportive, approachable and knowledgeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It can be windy so take lots of layers. Arrive early and stay on to take advantage of Porto and Lisbon.

Great location, disappointing hotels and more local insights needed!

This is an amazing bit of Italy but this tour is a bit disappointing. The hotels are generally dated and inexpensive ( c £100 per room per night if booked direct). The hotel is Lecce is the hotel Eos and is about Trave lodge standard on a main road in the new town . So many great places and exodus chose this one? Arborebello feels like a mini film set and is full on touristy although good to be there early and late. Our trulli house was cute although a bit dated ( c1975). The breakfasts here are served in a wine cellar down some very steep stairs. It would have been lovely to have eaten outside or looked at the view.
The rooms/ caves at the hotel Sassi in matera was very varied and 6 of our group of 16 complained snd moved rooms after one night. Our cave was damp and not very clean – the damp smell and atmosphere over whelming . The terrace and view was stunning though.
The guided tours in both places were dull , functional and uninspiring. The cookery class was a 10 minute demo on how to make Orchietta pasta ( you could have a go )

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk around the coves in Otranto was lovely - prob best to do early and not at midday as we did but would be good to have more time for this

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fun and a lovely bloke. Bit repetitive on instructions and kept running too much info too far ahead .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ask for room upgrades in advance. Food at group dinners disappointing except in Arberobello. Take hard cases as dragged around in matera fraying fabric ones

Portuguese Camino cycle

A really excellent and well-run cycle trip from Porto to Santiago de Compostela

Most Inspirational Moment

Quite a thrill to enter the noisy cathedral square at the end of the trip to join all the other travellers in celebrating successful Camino trips.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader was first class. He kept us cyclists moving, yet was conscious to warn us of hazards and generally took care of us. He was also good fun to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be patient with the Camino walkers. Also there are a lot of cobbled roads in Portugal, so have good padded shorts and be prepared to stand up a little on the pedals on bumpier sections.

Romania cycling

Great Trip .

Most Inspirational Moment

Farm Visit and just the relaxation of the holiday
