CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: DOBBIACO

A wonderful week ; excellent snow conditions and great weather . The hotel was up to its usual high standard to which I have been accustomed for about 10 times now !

Most Inspirational Moment

The descent on the old military road ; also emerging from the artificially-lit natural tunnel on the Cortina run into glorious sunshine !

Thoughts on Group Leader

Albert , whom I have known over many years and regard as a friend , organised our trip in his usual quietly efficient yet relaxed manner . He is great company and was most helpful to each member 's needs , ensuring that everyone enjoyed the holiday to the best of their ability . Good practical technical advice on the loipe was kindly offered when required .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Cross-country skiing is a wonderful winter activity and Dobbiaco is a splendid centre for participating at any grade .

COLOURS OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

We hadn’t been with Exodus before, been on an organised trip nor been to India so really didn’t know what to expect. Have to say we were delighted with the whole experience and would certainly reecommend to others.The organisation was excellent and the programme couldn’t have squeezed much more in.

Most Inspirational Moment

Suprisingly it wasn't the magnificent sight of the Taj Mahal or Red Fort that was most inspirational, though they didn't disappoint, it was the 'off the cuff' visit we made to a local village school that we happened to pass. The children were so delighful and welcoming and we felt we had a taste of India that wasn't just for the tourist. Another visit that sticks out was a walk round a small local village, eating from road side stalls and drinking in the fabulous colours all around us.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Avtar was simply amazing, always on hand to answer questions and explain the customs and rituals of a very complex county. He went out his way to show us a side to his country he is obviously very proud of.The 'Bollywood' movie was an experience!.

Advice for Potential Travellers

It was definately a bit colder than we imagined ( December/January) especailly in Delhi. Temperatures fell to single figures at night and only rose slowly during the day. It was also quite foggy/misty all the time so some views weren't as clear as at other times of year. Advise would be take an extra jumper or two. Getting clothes cleaned at Hotels was easy and very inexpensive. There are long road journey's ( it can't be avoided) so be prepared.

DISCOVER SRI LANKA

Just the perfect combination of activities, scenery, history, tour leader, group dynamics, fun, weather, accommodation, food, organisation, information and support staff.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were quite a few. Achievement and reward - climbing Adam's peak (5,500 steps) and seeing the sun rise across the mountains and the shadow cast across the landscape behind - just magical.Scenery - from the walk to Worlds End and the view from the train journey were all awesomeEnjoyment - watching the elephants at the orphanage play, bath and interact so gently with each other it made you marvel at the sensitivities and humility of these fine large animals

Thoughts on Group Leader

Faultless. He was well organised, calm, polite, knowledgable, humorous and good fun. He also cared a great deal about his county, its people, history, culture and its future so you empathised much more with the country through his knowledge, passion and balanced observations. He joined in with the group and at the end he said "he felt he was on holiday with us". I think that is a great compliment to him and the group that went.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING: DOBBIACO

My 4th holiday in Dobbiaco and the best yet. A combination of fantastic snow conditions and a friendly and fun group

Most Inspirational Moment

Being able to ski at high levels and get a feeling of being up in the mountains was wonderful. It's definitely not true that x country skiers plod along the bottom of valleys! The railway track to Cortina is spectacular, and gives a great sense of achievment as you cover a lot of distance. Wherever you are, the scenery is always breathtaking

Thoughts on Group Leader

Albert is an excellent leader who combines efficiency and good organisation with a relaxed style of leadership. He's always willing to advise on your skiing, but doesn't push you into doing things you don't feel comfortable with. He ensures that all guests get the best from each day.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Dobbiaco is a great place for skiers of all levels as there are so many tracks of different lengths and degrees of difficulty. The excellent local transport network accessed using a weekly season ticket means there are lots of options and you aren't necessarily committed to a full day. There are plenty of cafes for morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, beer, gluhwein ...

CYCLE INDOCHINA & ANGKOR

A great trip with easy cycling on flat terrain with mostly good roads. Lots of stops for fluid and carbohydrate intake. A wide variety of sights to see and the guide and local guides were very professional and informative.

Most Inspirational Moment

The friendliness of the people in Vietnam, especially the children who greeted us with cheery 'Hellos' in every village. Not inspirational but memorable were the visits to sights of atrocities in Cambodia and Vietnam. Very upsetting but something that had to be experienced.

THE TROPICAL SOUTH

This was a great trip with a fantastic guide with lots of variety included from walking, wildlife, sightseeing and relaxing.

Most Inspirational Moment

There were many highlights - climbing Munnar Hill, elephant riding, houseboat trip, seeing the birds (feathered variety :)).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Absolutely wonderful - nice and calm, good sense of humour, checked out the welfare of the group both individually and as a group, organised and able to try and put in an alternative when we couldn't do part of the trip due to a border dispute.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Hiking boots instead of trainers would be better for the hill climb and the Periyar National Park.Need to be relaxed about slow service in restaurants - enjoy the time with your fellow travellers!Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

Most Inspirational Moment

Getting to the beach in Agadir in one piece felt like a real achievement.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Liz was an excellent group leader. She works extremely hard throughout the trip to make sure the bikes are repaired and that people know exactly what to expect. She is super fit and a really nice person.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Train beforehand. Expect it to be tough both mentally and physically. Bring warm clothes. And a hairdryer. Like tagine as there is not a lot else to eat.

COLOURS OF RAJASTHAN, INDIA

I am afraid I wouldn’t recommend it – it really felt like a package tour rather than a journey. Most daylight hours on the vast majority of days are spent on the bus, and the scenery is flat and pretty uninteresting so doesn’t mitigate the length of the journeys. I was surprised how short the stops were at the sights – for example 20 minutes to walk around at the Taj Mahal.

Most Inspirational Moment

The Taj Mahal exceeded my expectations (which were high) though the pleasure was marred by only having 20 minutes to walk around, so constantly checking watches.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was really a nice chap and looked after us well. I could have done without some of the banter on the coach, but it was well intentioned, he clearly loves his country and wanted to share it with us. The driver was amazing - there is a lot of traffic on the roads and he must have been really tired at times, but he did a great job, and his assistant was also really kind.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Really think about how long you want to spend on a bus in a relatively short holiday, and be prepared for having a fair number of cold showers.

ANNAPURNA SANCTUARY

Very well organised and paced trek. Great guides. Some thought perhaps into evening entertainment. Disappointed that Exodus had withdrawn their allowance to provide some Christmas day celeberation and came from the guides pockets , given an increased supplement is levied at this time of year.Would like Exodus to justify reducing guides / porters wages by 20% when any cost cutting can be acheived in its brochures, the small amount this would have saved is a large amount to this personnel which is totally unfair on then. TUI you should be ashamed ! Pre ordering meals worked very well .

Sunset views at Poon Hill and reaching Base Camp at Annapurna , views incredible. Friendleness of the locals.

Passang had a lovely sensitive personality , excellent sense of humour , always happy to help and very patient especially at meal times when clients forgot their orders.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Make sure you are well equipped for a variety of conditions in one day. Have plenty of snacks , go with the flow of the group ,

A WEEK IN JORDAN

An amazing sightseeing trip – lots of busy days and walking, there isn’t much free time. Lots of hightlights for me – practically everything on the itinerary.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the Treasury at Petra for the first time. We did Petra by Night, which whilst quite pricey, is well worth doing for the magical experience. It is also amazing to see it during daylight for the first time, as well as the high climb on the second day in Petra where you get such a good persepctive on the whole city form up high.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - Kheled was very informative and helpful.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take bath plugs - most of the hotels don't have them and sometimes the pressure in the showers isn't always great. It is easy to change money over there Most hotels have UK plug sockets so you don't need to worry about adaptors.
