WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Our first Exodus holiday – we enjoyed it hugely.

Most Inspirational Moment

Looking down into El Chorro gorge and watching the griffon vultures soaring near the cliff opposite was fantastic.  All our walks took us through remarkable scenery, and the wintry weather on occasions added an extra dimension.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent - he made sure everyone felt included and kept an eye on anyone who was lagging at all, or who was nervous of free-wandering cattle with huge horns! He knew all the best places to stop for a break, both picnics and cafes, and how he stretched our kitty to cover so much refreshment is a mystery.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Mid winter might seem an odd time to visit Spain, but actually it was very good and we had mainly bright sunny weather (and some frosty mornings).  The temperature was very pleasant.  The dramatic storm overnight on Christmas Eve/Day was quite an experience, along with the power cuts, but it made no difference to our comfort in Cortijo Rosario.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Another great trip with Exodus lead by an amazing guide, Alex.

Most Inspirational Moment

Good walks, lovely villages, great food and some stunning views. Particularly enjoyed visiting the local villages where we were able to sample some fantastic food and meet the locals.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was amazing. He was an exceptionally knowledgeable, friendly and professional young man. Alex could could not have done more to make our holiday one to remember. Nothing was too much trouble organising refreshments at every stop at a cafe or bar, transport or helping those who were struggling with the walk. Alex was extremely patient dealing with all queries and all the different personalities in the group. We could not have asked for a better guide.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you're looking to experience village life, get away from it all, this is the trip for you.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Our first ever Exodus trip – one of our best holidays EVER!!

Most Inspirational Moment

The superb varied scenery of Andalucía. Great walks in very different locations.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Alex was superb. A local guy - nothing was too much trouble. Knowledgeable about the area. Great company.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a wide brimmed hat in hot weather.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

A great holiday with a great bunch of people.  The location was ideal – very peaceful apart from the bird chorus in the morning –  with good food and wine. A lot of nice little touches which didn’t cost much but made quite a bit of difference – being able to have a cup of tea and a biscuit after a day’s walking a classic example.  Nothing was ever too much trouble for our genial host.

Most Inspirational Moment

This was my second Exodus holiday and was as if not more enjoyable than the first.  It's amazing how 10 people from all walks of life just gelled.  The picnic lunch at the monastery was memorable - not only because of the quality of the fare but also the location and weather; you could have stayed there all day.  The day in Seville is to be recommended but do please be aware that you are not going to see it all in a day.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris was superb - had the remarkable ability to ensure that the more able members of the group were contained but at the same time ensured that the less able did not feel as if they were holding the group up. An excellent blend of people management and public relations skills. Made sure everyone felt part of it and that eveveryone's requirements were met.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Classed as a Leisurely to Moderate walk I would view that it was more leisurely, which was ideal given the hot weather.  If you are an experienced walker go for the more challenging weeks.

A WEEK IN ANDALUCIA

This holiday makes for a relaxing week in stunning surroundings with some excellent walking and delicious food!

Most Inspirational Moment

The visit to Seville was fantastic. We spent it wandering around the town, visiting the impressive Royal Palace and having a relaxing lunch on one of the shady squares. The walk to and over the Pass of the Doves was for me the highlight of the walks.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was excellent. He was friendly and easy going and full of knowledge. He was at all times aware of people's abilities, being attentive and helpful where necessary.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring plenty of sunscreen and a hat, and don't forget your swimming things!

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

A nice hotel but perhaps not ideally situated. Too many long bus drives in the heat to get to a start point for the walks and too many long drives back..

Most Inspirational Moment

Canos Santos Monastery with a picnic lunch in the courtyard and not another tourist (or local) for miles... that was a good experience. However, the Pass of the Doves was probably the best day, with a great walk in a great place and fantastic views.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris, well, what can one say..   He is totally unflappable, calm in all situations. Quiet yet very sociable. Knowledgeable and always attentive to the groups or individuals needs and quick to respond as well !!A great trip leader

Advice for Potential Travellers

These are walks which I guess average 10 km in hot (sometimes very hot) weather. There are long uphill sections over rough ground. You don't have to be an Olympian, but you should at least try and get in practice for this otherwise your going to end up making excuses and sitting by the pool all day and that's not the point of this trip.Tapas in UK restaurants tend to be spicy, rich and very desirable. In Spain the food was a lot more bland - don't expect much

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

I must admit to being a little nervous about the holiday having never done anything like it before. However I need not have worried location, walks and the people were all first class.

Most Inspirational Moment

I found parts of some of the walks a little challenging having trained mostly on the flat. However finishing the most challenging walk of the week-albeit the last to finish the warm welcome and congratulations I received from the group when I joined them in the bar at the end of a long day -and the realisation that I not only completed the walk I actually enjoyed it was a truly rewarding moment

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris was great. He was encouraging and supportive on the walks and good company when we were more relaxed. His local knowledge was faultless.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you are wondering if this is the holiday for you I would absolutely say-go for it. I really don't think you will regret it.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Excellent hikes, beautiful country house-like a week in the mountains with friends!

Most Inspirational Moment

Hiking in the natural parks and stopping to admire both the fantastic views and wildflowers. We felt a million miles away from work and everyday life. Upon returning from a day's walk, there was a great swim in the pool and then a gourmet quality meal with congenial people. Relaxing and yet invigorating--doesn't get better than that!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris was helpful, always giving us a good sense of the walk ahead.. He was friendly, supportive and knowledgable, providing us with the histor of the region and a sense of the culture.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Bring hiking boots and poles. Although the trip is billed "leisurely/moderate," it is more moderate than leisurely--be prepared.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Great walking despite the rain. Comfortable acommodation with fantastic home cooking, friendly staff and welcoming cups of tea and grinning dogs on return to  the Cortija Rosario Great group and excelllent guides, plenty of stops to gather breath and learn more on the local flora and fauna with a bit of history thrown in.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking to the top of Penon and seeing all around for miles.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent on all counts

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some good rainproof jackets and warm clothing, when it rained in the higher hills it was like walking in Scotland.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This was a great trip. The Cortijo Rosario was a wonderful place to stay in a beautiful location, with excellent traditional food, and welcoming hosts. The walks were varied, with great views especially in the Grazalema mountains and El Chorro Gorge. It was a good group to spend the week with, and the leader was excellent – entertaining, informative and helpful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Grazalema mountains, watching the birds sweep through the El Chorro Gorge, looking at the stars late at night, being in the winning quiz team!, meeting great people, drinking Andalusian sherry, eating delicious food, learning lots about the region, visiting Seville - especially the Alcazar, chatting into the night, and sitting by the pool in the sun.....

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had an excellent leader - he kept us entertained over the week, led the walks at the right pace, knew an enormous amount about the places we visited, and was organised but also relaxed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would recommend this trip.
