TUSCANY: CYCLE SIENA & CHIANTI

I enjoyed myself so much that I must book another trip quickly! Everybody was great, really kind and supportive and our tour leader was amazing, Rudy worked 24/7 to make sure everyone’s needs were catered for and gave nothing less than his honest opinion! A very memorable trip!

Most Inspirational Moment

There were lots of moments especially in the first few days when i realised I would be fitter once the trip was over, how amazing the scenery was, the food was delicious and I especially enjoyed the preseco!!! The atmosphere between everyone made the trip even better! The entire trip was an inspirational moment!

Rudy set such a high standard that i'm wondering if any other group leader will live up to it! I suppose I should book another trip to find out! Rudy took care of everyone and went beyond the usual call of duty to attend to everyone's particular needs! All of us apprieciated the effort he put it to making our trip the best ever!

THE AMALFI COAST

A fantastic walking holiday in a beautiful part of Italy with an amazing guide, Liz and great company.

Most Inspirational Moment

Loved all the walks especially the Walk of the Gods and our trip to Ravello on our free day. Lovely gardens and the lunch was so good at Villa Maria. Hotel staff at 2 Torri so helpful and friendly.

Liz, our group leader was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly making the holiday a great experience.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for a few hills, but the views are worth the effort.

EVEREST BASE CAMP

What an amazing experience ! I’ve been home for a couple of weeks now and am still brimming over with enthusiasm about the trek. Certainly not a walk in the park, but with the support of our incredible Exodus crew and encouragement from fellow trekkers was thrilled to make it to Base Camp ! What started for me as a "50th birthday bucket list trip", turned into a truly enriching , dare I say life changing experience. Exodus really knows what they are doing in Nepal – I always felt well cared for, informed and supported. I was also impressed by how well Exodus supports the local communities. You could sense the shared respect between our leader, Sidar, Sherpa’s, and lodge owners. My co- travelers were another reason this trek was so special. Maybe it was luck or perhaps our shared interest of Everest, but found traveling with this particular group really enhanced the experience. Just an amazing bunch !The highlight for me, was the two nights we spent right at base camp – quite a thrill to be amongst the expedition teams as they prepared to summit. My advice to potential travellers – go for it ! Prepare with as many practice walks as possible (including up and down hill), and invest in some good hiking boots and poles, but think one foot just starts to follow the other almost automatically as you anticipate what lays ahead. Can’t wait to travel with Exodus again and as a travel agent will certainly be recommending them to clients.

ANCIENT & MODERN JAPAN

I really enjoyed visiting this fascinating country. There were many new impressions and images. Japan is quite different to the other countries in Asia that I have visited so far. What I missed on the trip was a view from the inside. Although our tour guide was very capable, efficient and helpful, I was disappointed that we did not have a Japanese guide or at least someone who spoke the language well. That is something I have always valued highly on other Exodus trips.

Most Inspirational Moment

This is a difficult question, as there were many inspirational moments: the wonderful gardens, staying in a ryokan and having a communal hot bath, the impressive Matsumoto castle with a view over the Japanese Alps, the snow monkeys, the bullet train and of course the cherry blossoms, of which there were many!

Thoughts on Group Leader

The group leader was efficient and well organised. We had plenty of information for our free time and everything ran very smoothly. Suzy was approachable and helpful and did her best to make it a successful tour.On the downside, I would have appreciated more insight into Japanese society and culture from an "insider", either a Japanese or someone who had lived there for some time and spoke the language well. We spent a few days in Japan after the trip with someone who is living there and learned so much more about the country and went to interesting places where tourists who can't speak Japanese would not have been able to go.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be open to new experiences, try unfamiliar foods and take a dictionary. Not so many people speak English. If you ask a Japanese for information or advice, be prepared to wait, as they will often go in search of an answer or someone who speaks English. We found the Japanese in general very courteous and helpful, always ready to assist us "gaijin".Be prepared for a lot of walking, take good walking shoes.

GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

A totally unique place. The Cachalote crew were amazing and did everything they could to make the journey very special. Our guide, David was the same and full of knowledge about every aspect of the islands and the wildlife. We had many interesting encounters, seeing a swallow tailed gull hatching her chick from its egg, two iguanas fighting, waved albatross walking along the path towards us, then others flying so close over our heads we could have reached out and touched them. Every morning we were filled with excitement as to what the day held, and were never disappointed.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Enthusiastic, kind and extremely knowledgeable. It was obvious that he loved the islands and wanted to share his enjoyment with us.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take a specially insulated water bottle to keep the water cool as it does get warm when walking around on the islands and in the high temperatures. A hiking stick could be useful on some of the terrain. A telephoto lens is handy for capturing the birds in flight, but all the wildlife is so close that a compact camera is adequate.

A WEEK IN JORDAN

We had a week in Jordan at the end of April with Khaled as our guide, he was excellent, amusing, informative and gave us an insight into ‘real’ life in Jordan. The holiday did "exactly as it said on the tin" and was wonderful. Throughout the week we were given choices about where and when to eat and how long we’d like to spend as free time, everything went well and there were no hold ups or disasters.

Seeing the differences in the countryside travelling the length of the country and hearing about how people live.Petra of course.Snorkelling alongside the coral reef in Aquaba from a boat.Stopping for a tea break alongside 'the grand canyon' in the rift valley. The desert at Wadi Rum.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Khaled was wonderful - he was everything anyone would want in a guide without being too bossy or in your face. He kept us all happy and amused, stopped at interesting and novel places maybe not on ALL tourist routes.

Ensure walking boots are not new/relatively new. Ensure sleeping bag is suitable for the cold climate and always know the end point is beyond your wildest dreams.

CYCLING THE DALMATIAN COAST

The reason I went on this vacation was because I originally did a Google search for a different type of holiday without single supplements,also a short flight to a country I had not been to before & an adventure type holiday at the end of April.I had been told that Croatia was nice,in fact now I have been I am stunned how beautiful Croatia really is & in the future will go back again.This vacation ticked all the right boxes for me.

There is just so much on this vacation to inspire one,there is just too much to list but cycling along tracks & quiet roads in open country side through olive groves is a truly lovely experience.Cycling from Dingac along the coast was just so scenic.It was a nice touch being taken to small villages off the beaten track to enjoy meals prepared by the local people who are just so pleasant.The other 5 people I met up with on this holiday were a lovely crowd which put the iceing on the cake.

Bojan our tour leader was not only just a wonderful guide he was a friend.He looked after everybody every step of the way & was concerned for everybodies welfare.He has great communication skills & was just so nice to have around,he recommended places to eat & really enjoyed socialising with all us holiday clients.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The only advice I would say to anybody going on this type of vacation is that although you don,t need to be an olympian athlete,you do need a good level of fitness to benefit & fully enjoy this holiday.I found in April the temperature can range from chilly to quite warm & there is more of a risk of rain off season. I was fortunate that it never rained at any time when I was cycling.

FINNISH WILDERNESS WEEK

This was one of the best holidays I’ve had in a very long time. If you haven’t been to Finland before and you love your winter holidays, then this is for you. The people of Finland are the most friendly and polite you could ever wish to meet. Stunning scenery, our lovely Finnish hosts, brilliantly organised activities and great company. Cross country skiiing is going to be one of my favourite winter sports from now on. I was sad when ur week came to an end, but came back feeling super healthy (even if slightly k*******d) I loved it!!!!!!

The scenery in the national parks was awe inspiring. Some wonderful memories of our husky rides through the most unspoilt wilderness with lunches in the open air or in tipis, in sub zero temperatures sat around fires on reindeer skins.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Eki was amazing. He runs Basecamp Oulanka with the help of an amazing team and their knowledge of the local area and it's flora and fauna was excellent. With his help and willingness to make sure we had the best holiday, we did all of the activities that we could and packed them in to a week. I can't not mention our host Lowric from the husky farm. If it wasn't for him and his team we wouldn't have seen much of this beautiful part of the world.

Just enjoy yourselves...................then again, it's hard not to.
