An exhilarating trip zipping along coastal roads gazing at plunging cliffs dipping into turquoise waters and pretty bays .Glimpses of ancient Phoenician cities, Spanish Towers and ancient mines enhance the views . Plenty of time to relax on a beach, enjoy the ferry and savour the delicious food and wine all in good company after a hard days cycle.
The coastal scenery and a wow moment at every bend.Flamingoes flying . Festival procession we were lucky to witness that happens once a year in a small village.
Excellent--attentive and fun. He worked well with Roberto who drove the van and acted as back up.Michelae was aware of the diffferent needs of the group and organised us well.
Relax and enjoy. The hills are quite challenging but in small bite size chunks.Remember low gear when cycling through a ford !!I went in May which is a good time to avoid the crowds and hot weather but enough to enjoy the beach.
Hikes through stunning scenery, a tapestry of spring flowers and the best icecream in the world – a winning combination.
Every day was an inspiration. Starting our first walk in pouring rain was a challenge but it brought the group together. Reaching the summit of the highest peak in Tuscany with everyone who had started the walk (including Elvis, but that is another story) gave a great sense of achievement. Coming across a moutainside covered with crocuses and another white with narcissus flowers was a reward for all the effort.
Sara is everything you would want in a leader. She is highly experienced, has enormous local knowledge and makes you feel entirely safe with her overwhelming competence. Alongside all that professionalism, she is also great fun. The birthday celebrations she put on for one of our group are a fine example of how she goes that step further to ensure everyone has a good time.
I had not imagined the hills of Tuscany would be so high - don't be fooled by images of the south of the region - and some of them can be a little scary. Despite everything you might imagine it can and does rain in May (and possibly other months) and it can be very cold when you are up the mountain so do take your waterproofs and gloves. On the other hand, pack your swimming things as it can also be lovely and warm in the valley when you get back from your walk.
A very well structured and organized tour through a country still seemingly struggling to modernize and improve the standard of living for it’s citizens. Although the people are not overtly religious, Uzbekistan has some of the most beautiful mosques and madrassas I’ve seen throughout my travels through the muslim world. The country’s infrastructure needs improvement and it’s currency (Som) desperately needs notes in much larger denominations for ease of USD/Euro/GBP exchange. The country is immaculately clean and I felt safe at all times. Cuisines other than Uzbek and Russian are difficult to locate outside the larger cities, so this is not really a tour for the discerning pallette. The Uzbek people are lovely and eager to make friends with foreigners. Handicrafts (Embroidery, wood carvings, ceramics, etc.)of very high quality abound for haggling, (Sorry Dr. R. ur haggling skills needed UN intervention!!!)
Seeing the beautiful, well maintained, and clean (unlitered) cities and environs. The people seem to take a genuine sense of pride and responsibility for their environment (homeland).
Our group leader (Johnnybek) was very knowlegible. He was organized, well-mannered, and managed all 16 personalities of our group without hardly any difficulties.
Discuss the "black market" currency exchange process with your tour leader before exchanging large amounts of USD. Euro, etc at the hotel or bank rates!!!! There are great "price fixed" handicraft shops just outside the registan ensemble in Samarkand ( In diretion of the bazaar) for those travelers who would rather not haggle for souveniers!!!! Wifi was available in most of the hotels.
A brilliant trip lead by brilliant guides! This is my first Exodus trip and I was thoroughly impressed with the organisation, the standard of accommodation and the guides.
Lots! Reaching the top of a hill climb, seeing crystal clear sea, quatrz sand beaches, drinking Ichnusa while watching the sunset.
Michele and Roberto were amazing, a great double act. Michele was always smiling, cracking jokes and was really enthuisiastic about the plans for the next days adventure. He looked out for everybody in the group whether they were the fastest or the slowest in the group. And Roberto (the tallest Sardinian in the world) was great too, sorting out some great picnics on the beach for us and really looking after everybody.
Go for it!!
An incredible experience that will stay with me forever. Much more than just a holiday, Exodus found somethgin to make each day better than the previous one.
Meeting and talking with the local Amazon guide Raphael who had real life experience of living in the Amazon.
Juan had an extensive knowledge of the country, it's history and culture. He had a tendancy to be over assertive but relaxed after a week and started to allow us to enjoy the break.
Check that Ant-Malarials are actually necessary. I was advised by Exodus to take them but the local staff in the Amaxon advised against it as Peru is a Malaria free region and Malarone can affect altitidue sickness.
An interesting and unhurried trip, wonderful scenary and lovely medieval towns with narrow cobbled streets
The lovely coastal scenary with clear turquoise and blue sea, and Dubrovnik is a real gem, with its wonderful medieval buildings and narrow alleyways
Very organised and helpful, ensuring everybody was ok and enjoying their holiday.
It is very easy to withdraw cash from ATM''s as you go, so no need to take lots of cash with you. The trip to Mostar is well worth it, it's a picturesque small town to wander around, and their is an exhibition with interesting although very sobering pictures from the war. It is worth considering adding on another day in Dubrovnik as their is a lot to see and do. The cost of goods, drinks and meals is not that much different from the uk when planning your budget. Most local people are very friendly and helpful, and many speak some English or will attempt to understand you ! You can get taxis from the airport easily and cheaply, and it feels relatively safe walking around at night.
The best trip ever! Magnificent trek, despite heavy rain on day 2 … the travails just added to the sense of achievement on reaching the Sun Gate. Food on trek unbelievably good – better than we eat at home – and loads of it. Superb guides at all stages, and the trail porters were magnificent – camp set up for us before we arrived, tea and hot water for washing delivered to our tents – like having a personal butler! The encouragement of the guides was truly humbling, and if any of us flagged they were there to give support. We also saw a lot of Peru, and had lots of new experiences, including dune buggies at Ica and sand-boarding for the more adventurous. This is a fun-packed trip of a lifetime – we loved every minute of it …
talking to Fabrizzio, Hernan and Lizbett, our wonderful trail guides, about their pride in their Inca heritage ...wonderful first evening meal on trek - asparagus soup, stuffed trout fillets, with rice and al dente mixed vegetables, followed by bananas flambeed in brandy with hot chocolate sauce - worth going for the food alone!
Fabrizzio was experienced, knowledgeable, hard-working, encouraging - all you could expect from a guide and so much more! I had a chest infection and initially doubted my ability to complete the trek but he was hugely supportive and encouraging, and inspired me with the confidence to do it comfortably. He was also very good at ensuring group cohesion while giving everyone the chance to do their own thing - never once did we feel regimented to do anything.
Don't hesitate to book ... it's a great trek, and lots more besides. Take swimming gear for Aguas Calientes and the hotel in Nazca ...
The holiday was pretty much as described in the Trip Notes – a chance to see beyond the beaches and bodegas and experience, as much as you can as a tourist, a little bit more of real Cubans living their lives, as well as visit some of the different areas of this fascinating country in a period of transition. The cycling was challenging but it certainly did improve my fitness. The food was rather unexciting and the lavatory arrangements unpredictable, but these had been well signalled by the literature. The weather was consistently hot and humid, so the excellent backup from the support team, whether water, fruit, local knowledge or just encouragement on the road, was very much appreciated.
A few inspirational moments would include: - Cycling along the Malecon in Havana - the first day in a city laden with atmosphere.- Jamming with a Cuban guitarist on the Cuban local instrument, the 'tres' - a humbling experience.- Seeing firsthand the bullet holes and torture chambers associated with the first, abortive, uprising, reminding us that revolutions are about people, not necessarily ideology.- Visiting a tobacco famer's tiny plantation, cmplete with hand-cranked water pump and drying shed: micro-agriculture in action.- Exchanging a very limited Spanish vocabulary with a populace who were almost entirely polite, appreciative and friendly (the exception being staff in the large hotels, for whom tourists have become walking ATMs). - Being able to explore both Trinidad and, to the East, a sugar plantation, both of which gave a sense of how the country must have been not so long ago.- An impromptu dancing lesson in the one restaurant where we defied the Leader's choice of eatery and went off on our own. Although Juan Carlos' choices were in fact consistently better. - The scenery overall, although the view of the mountains on the third day, leaving Cienfuegos, remains memorable.- The polite, neat, well-dressed school children, who always waved and yelled at us (though, perhaps forutitously, we couldn't understand what they were yelling..)
Juan Carlos could not have been better: experienced, supportive, polite, well-briefed, patient and firm when necessary. He went to bed last, was first up, and despite plainly having to spend half the day organising suitable venues that were prepared to take 18 tourists at a sitting, appeared consistently unruffled. He was also extremely well briefed on the history of all the locales we visited, and all of the local trips maintained their interest, although I did skip the castle in Santiago. Juan Carlos would also travel at the back of the line of cyclists when he felt it was necessary to give encouragement or help. In short, a real professional.
Read the Trip Notes - they do explain pretty much everything. Things I found useful: medical kit, clothes washing liquid, toilet roll, indigestion tablets (helpful for another member of the team), headscarf (the sun is very hot), Factor 30 sunscreen, a single room, my own gel saddle, lots of change in Convertible Pesos for tips, anti-insect spray.Unbelievably, I only got bitten by a mosquito once, which I attribute to my ingestion of 6 yeast pills daily for 2 weeks prior and throughout the trip. Things I didn't need - jacket, shirts, shoes - all venues were informal. Although the Trip Notes and the guide books advise extreme caution re: pickpockets and camera snatchers, I didn't in fact feel threatened and wished I'd brought my posh camera - although I didn't go out clubbing or stroll the streets late at night.Things I wished I'd bought - a Cuban tres 6-string guitar, some percussion instruments. Things to avoid - any CDs on sale by all the musicians who play at every lunch and dinner without exception - unless you particularly like their music, of course. Things I did buy - cigars. You can get more at the airport, but they are certainly more expensive back home, so worth stocking up on. Similarly, the authentic rums of Santiago de Cuba - Santiago and Caney. You can get them at the airport as well.
Excellent trip…a holiday full of excitement and wonder! Jordan is a fantastic country with breathtaking scenery, fascinating history, welcoming people and tasty food! The week in Jordan will definitely stay with me for a long time to come.
Too many to mention and amazingly all packed into one week.
Khaled did a fantastic job with the group, ably assisted by Sadam the tourist policeman and Kamal our driver. They all took great care of the group both from a professional viewpoint with the day to day activities, but also from the social aspect, they were more than happy to join in!
If you are thinking of going...JUST GO! Nothing to be worried about regarding safety. It is really a fantastic country!
