Fantastic adventure for everyone wanting to experience cultural highlights

Highlights of Romania is a fantastic trip for travellers who want to experience authentic culture, history, and local life. Our lovely guide, Christi, encouraged us to ask questions and to really get to know local people and their lives. What impressed me most was how many genuine connections we made throughout the journey, from meeting local artisans and learning traditional crafts to staying in welcoming family-run guesthouses.

The medieval town of Sighișoara was a real highlight. Walking through its beautifully preserved streets felt like stepping back in time. Equally memorable were visits to traditional workshops where we learned about wool spinning and even had the chance to try our hand at weaving alongside local experts.

The accommodation may not be luxurious, but it is full of character and provides wonderful opportunities to meet local hosts and enjoy home-cooked Romanian cuisine. Every guesthouse offered a warm welcome and a deeper insight into daily life in the region.

The itinerary is well paced for active travellers who enjoy immersive cultural experiences. Along the way, you’ll discover fascinating Orthodox and Saxon heritage, beautiful countryside, historic castles, and lesser-known parts of Europe that remain refreshingly untouched by mass tourism.

I would highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in history, culture, local traditions, and authentic travel experiences. Romania exceeded my expectations and left me wanting to return and explore even more of this remarkable country.

Most Inspirational Moment

My most inspiring moment came during our visit to a traditional weaving workshop in rural Romania. Watching skills that have been passed down through generations being practised with such pride and precision was incredibly moving. What made it even more special was having the opportunity to sit down with the artisan, learn about her life, and try weaving for myself. It wasn't just about seeing a demonstration; it was about understanding the importance of keeping local traditions alive in a rapidly changing world. The genuine warmth of the people we met and their passion for preserving their heritage left a lasting impression on me. That experience perfectly captured what makes this trip so special. It's not just about visiting beautiful places like Sighișoara or Romania's castles, it's about connecting with the people, stories, and traditions that bring the destination to life. I left with a much deeper appreciation for Romanian culture and the communities that continue to keep it thriving.

Christi is a wonderful guide who is warm, friendly, and truly passionate about his country. Kosti, the driver, also helped us out with questions and telling us stories about Romania. A wonderful duo! :)

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ensure you bring comfortable shoes as there is a lot of walking involved in this trip, including stairs and gravel. Other than that, I suggest keeping an open mind and letting the beautiful Romanian landscape and hospitality surprise and delight you every day. :)

Advice for Potential Travellers

One point - the trip notes described it as suitable for people with limited mobility - I would say def not - lots of steps and gravel paths.
