WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Great walking despite the rain. Comfortable acommodation with fantastic home cooking, friendly staff and welcoming cups of tea and grinning dogs on return to  the Cortija Rosario Great group and excelllent guides, plenty of stops to gather breath and learn more on the local flora and fauna with a bit of history thrown in.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking to the top of Penon and seeing all around for miles.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Excellent on all counts

Advice for Potential Travellers

Take some good rainproof jackets and warm clothing, when it rained in the higher hills it was like walking in Scotland.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This was a great trip. The Cortijo Rosario was a wonderful place to stay in a beautiful location, with excellent traditional food, and welcoming hosts. The walks were varied, with great views especially in the Grazalema mountains and El Chorro Gorge. It was a good group to spend the week with, and the leader was excellent – entertaining, informative and helpful.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walking in the Grazalema mountains, watching the birds sweep through the El Chorro Gorge, looking at the stars late at night, being in the winning quiz team!, meeting great people, drinking Andalusian sherry, eating delicious food, learning lots about the region, visiting Seville - especially the Alcazar, chatting into the night, and sitting by the pool in the sun.....

Thoughts on Group Leader

We had an excellent leader - he kept us entertained over the week, led the walks at the right pace, knew an enormous amount about the places we visited, and was organised but also relaxed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

I would recommend this trip.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Set among olive groves in the lesser known part of Andalucia, the Cortijo Rosario farmhouse is the perfect setting & launchpad for walking in this landscape. The rest of the population just gets on with farmiing the fertile soil, or tending their herds, whilst still extending a warm welcome.

Most Inspirational Moment

Seeing the olive harvest first hand in November 2012. It made me feel so close to something we take for granted -ie olive oil!

Thoughts on Group Leader

Inspiring and  knowledgeable, always good natured but genuinely interested in his clients and their lives.

Advice for Potential Travellers

If you would like to try a quieter part of Spain, with a mixture of walking, culture and good food and wine in a tranquil setting, then go for this trip.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

The scenery of Andalucia is dramatic and varied. The hotel was charming, with welcoming staff and superb, local cuisine. An excellent guide and a great bunch of fellow travellers all combined to make this a holiday to remember.

Most Inspirational Moment

Al fresco lunch at the deserted monastery.

Thoughts on Group Leader

The best pair of legs in the business! Highly motivating (Richie, not just his legs!) and very knowledgeable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Consider hiring a car before or after this trip so that you can take in some of the other lovely places in the region.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This was my first Exodus holiday and my first solo holiday.  I enjoyed the company of my fellow travellers. It was a pleasant location and the food was good.

Thoughts on Group Leader

An experienced group leader, who prepared well. He had exactly the right balance of leading and supporting, helping the group to have an enjoyable week.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

Lovely walking routes, great bunch of people and a fantastic guide with a real affinite for Spain and its people, culture and history…a real bonus.

Most Inspirational Moment

All the routes were different, but the walk along the Ruta de los Molinos and to Sentinil was probably my favorite..but its a close run thing.  The day in Seville was extremely interesting.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Perfect - warm, friendly, amusing, knowledgable andd more than capable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Although we had very good weather for the ttime of year...it can get very cold on the top of the mountain routes!

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

As a much younger traveller then most who were on the trip, at 19, I found it an interesting and enriching experience. However, as with all holidays there were high and low points. Seville is an amazing city, and it has inspired me to return, because a few hours out of the day was simply not enough to explore such a jewel of history and culture. The walks were relatively easy, and had enough variety to remain interesting, and the location of the Cortijo was, while very remote, beautiful. However, the food one the first two nights was disappointing, though it did improve somewhat.

Most Inspirational Moment

Driving up winding mountain roads, right to the top of the Grazelema Mountains was certainly a high point, if slightly nerve-wracking! The vultures that flew almost level with where we were eating lunch that day was also amazing. But of course, the city of Seville was completely amazing, and I was loathe to leave after such a short time.

Thoughts on Group Leader

He was very knowledgeable, if a little long winded. We were lucky enough to have two guides, one of whom was a native of the area, which gave an insiders view of the area. He could have perhaps been clearer about the exact nature of the walks, but overall was completely competent.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Its an enjoyable holiday, and if you are looking for some Winter Sun, along with activities then its perfect. However, the remoteness of the location means there is very little interaction with the local people.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

A relaxing holiday in pleasant surroundings. Well organised and was very well looked after during the week

Most Inspirational Moment

The final day walk had spectacular views. The day in Seville was also a nice break in the middle of a week of walking

Thoughts on Group Leader

Friendly and helpful

Advice for Potential Travellers

I had not done an exodus holiday before. The organisation of the trip was excellent and I did not have to worry about doing anything once on holiday. I was unsure as to the standard of physical activity so opted for an A/B walking holiday to get an idea of the level of difficulty - the A grade walks were probably too leisurely for what I was after so would opt for more challenging holidays in future. Having done this holiday I would not do the same holiday again but would certainly book another holiday with Exodus.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This felt like a real holiday with all the details taken care of by Exodus and the farmhouse manager.  The scenery was beautiful and the walks diverse in the terrains they covered.

Most Inspirational Moment

The journey up to the Pass of the Doves was incredible (so long as eyes were closed on some of the hairpins).

Thoughts on Group Leader

Chris the group leader was very calm and measured and well informed - and by request put on a quiz to test how well we had been listening.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The walking is relatively easy (around 6 miles a day) - if you like long or steep walks this isn't the holiday for you.  However if you want a really relaxing break it probably is.

WALKING IN ANDALUCIA

This is the first time I had this type of holiday with a guide and a bunch of people I didn’t know. I was worried that I wouldn’t be happy to be told where to go/when to go/what to do by someone else on my holiday.

Most Inspirational Moment

The location was beautiful and remote, no TV/ Internet . We were very lucky with the weather which for me was one of the most important factors for enjoying the whole experience. The views on the walks were great and everyone in the group was very nice.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Andy was a very friendly guide, easy to talk to with a good sense of humour. On the last day I wanted an alternative to the walk and Andy recommended a beautiful village in the area of the walk. I was dropped off on the way and was picked up on the way back. This was a different day to the ones before but still very enjoyable.

Advice for Potential Travellers

The cortija offers a cosy homely environment but is quite basic. The nearest village is 20 minutes away so you need to bring everything that you might need with you. There are no real facilities for washing clothes and those can get very dirty so bring enough to last the week.Make sure you get concrete directions where to meet the leader in the airport as it wasn't as simple as we were made to believe at home.
