“I am passionate about showing people ‘my India’ and dispelling any stereotypes or preconceptions that people come with,” says Ajay, who has been expertly leading Exodus tours for the best part of two decades. Born and raised in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal, he has travelled the length and breadth of his home country (and Nepal), sharing his enthusiasm for travel, his nation and culture with hundreds of visitors. He places a special focus on visiting local industries and businesses, with the belief that showing daily life is just as important as visiting the landmarks. And when he’s not leading trips, you may find him interacting, playing games and making music with inmates serving life sentences at the local prison. On significant occasions, such as his daughter’s birthday, he will even bring his family and host a special meal.

Our guide, Ajay Gupta, was out of this world. All Exodus guides are super but he was just amazing – Carolyn
Ajay was truly excellent. Easy company, informed, patient at explaining the culture, history, politics and so on. He was very organised, because this trip is a mini-military-operation. It has to be, to see that many amazing things in 8 days. And he added little touches to enhance the trip (eg flowers to scatter on the Ganges). I wanted to see a step well (If I could) so I asked early on, and we got to see one in Jaipur that was not a tourist sight, by making a short detour. That was another highlight for me – Kevin
