A glorious week
A hugely enjoyable immersion in the countryside and towns of Puglia and Basilicata. The itinerary is well-designed, as the highlight for us was undoubtedly Matera, and I was pleasantly surprised at how little down time we had. The walking is undemanding, but the scenery is beautiful, and I can imagine in high summer the heat could become a problem. A great introduction to an area I knew very little about, other than enjoying the excellent wines it produces.
Most Inspirational Moment
Matera. Seeing it from across the ravine and then up close was breathtaking .

Ioana was outstanding. She was professional, deeply knowledgeable, and great company. She anticipated the needs of a disparate (but very agreeable) group of walkers and made an excellent trip into an unforgettable experience. Exodus seem to have a knack of engaging outstanding tour leaders for their Italian holidays - she is the third we have met, and all have been outstanding.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Although the walks are not excessive, and the ascent/descent is moderate, it's well worth packing your walking boots. I found the combination of hard services and occasional rocky sections were surprisingly tough on the feet, and I was glad of the thicker soles on the days I wore my boots. Poles are definitely an optional extra, unless you are an habitual user.

A Excellent Trip
A well guided and planned trip through an amazing country
Most Inspirational Moment
Having my very own log burning stove in my cabin at the trout farm!

Erlis was amazing. Excellent English, higly educated and looked after every aspect of our wellbeing
Advice for Potential Travellers
Albania pretty much accept euros everywhere. There are some big steep climbs so unless you are super fit or a regular hill climber take an e-bike! Out of 16 on our tour 11 were e-bikes.

Surprised by Albania
I expected Albania to be quite pretty, I was not prepared for breathtakingly beautiful scenery around every turn. The scale of the relatively untouched wilderness is staggering. Ok getting to see all this wonder does take a bit of climbing which my husband loved, I loved the well maintained e-bike which made the whole trip much more enjoyable. The decent on the second day was possibly my favourite bit but the whole holiday was a joy. We received a warm welcome wherever we went, especially in the guest house and the freshly prepared food was a bonus. Well organised, mostly quiet roads, if you don’t like climbing – do it on an e-bike!
Most Inspirational Moment
The staggering scenery.

Erlis was excellent.

The second night in the mountains was long trousers and a jumper chilly at the end of April.

Exceded my expectations
This was my first trip with Exodus and it was so good I’m ready to book my next. It all went so smoothly and the activities and people involved were wonderful. It was also my first ever solo travel experience and having other solo travelers in the group was a plus. The rest of my group was also super friendly and welcoming.
Most Inspirational Moment
Hard to pick. I loved riding the e-bikes on our free day and enjoying the beautiful landscapes once we would reach the top in our hikes.

Give Vania a raise! Vania was excellent. She was always patient, knowledgeable and energetic. She set a positive and enthusiastic tone in our group. She went above and beyond and even loaned me some of her own warn clothes when the weather got chillier so I could participate in our last hike. After speaking with other travelers who had gone on other Exodus trips, it’s clear the guide makes a huge difference so I feel very fortunate to have had such a wonderful, fun and kind leader.
Advice for Potential Travellers
This was at times pretty challenging physically. It’s called the Prosecco hills after all! Worth the views and Prosecco but be prepared for some climbs.

Wonderful week in Jordan!
I loved Jordan. I loved all of it. Such ancient land with complex history, there were moments where it felt like time itself was staring at you. Petra is magnificent; Wadi Rum calms the mind; the river Jordan nourishes the spirit; and local people’s hospitality warms the heart.
Most Inspirational Moment
I remember the moment I fell in love with Jordan: we were wandering around in the Amman citadel and just after 4pm the call for prayer came, in that moment I knew I was in trouble. I left a part of my heart in Jordan and I've come back heartbroken.
Thoughts on Group Leader
We had an amazing leader, Abdullah, who was warm, kind, humorous, and who made everything that much more special.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Don't worry about anything, just enjoy it!

Great views, fabulous scenery and lots of history.
A really good trip with excellent walking. Our guide Gizzer was very knowledgeable and good company.
Most Inspirational Moment
Kantor Castle and the walk that day.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Gizzer was informative, has a good sense of humour and made us feel looked after.
Advice for Potential Travellers
Remember good walking boots with ankle supports. Also the weather can be hot so be prepared for this on the longer walks.

Walking in Puglia and Matera (April 2024)
A very interesting range of regions, from the picturesque trulli houses of Puglia to the peace and quiet of the Masseria Morrone and finally the amazing cave dwellings of the Sassi district of Matera. The walks ranged from paths through fields dotted with ancient olive trees to shady forests and finally to wide open vistas in the Basilicata region
Most Inspirational Moment
The walk along the Murgia plateau with horned cows complete with cowbells, Spring flowers everywhere and beautiful views across to the Sassi district of Matera.
Thoughts on Group Leader
Tancredi was a very knowledgeable and helpful guide who always kept us informed of the programme for each day. The hike across the suspension bridge was not possible due to weather conditions, but Tancredi handled the change in programme very smoothly and also went out of his way to assist with suggestions for our free time, including an unscheduled visit to a beautiful rock church and a Benedictine Abbey on our last morning which was really special.
Advice for Potential Travellers
I used cash rather than credit card more than I had anticipated but this was not a major problem as ATMs were easily accessible.

Walking in Cappadocia - great trip, poor accommodation
This was a wonderful trip and one I would highly recommend to keen walkers. The scenery in the different valleys was stunning and the guide went above and beyond to offer extra evening activities for us to take part in. Unfortunately, Dreams Cave Hotel let the trip down, as it had several issues, including no/limited hot water, limited outdoor seating, and leaks in the room when it rained.
Most Inspirational Moment
Walking through Red Valley on a nice warm day with the sun accenting the various coloured rock.
Thoughts on Group Leader
The leader was great and very knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to offer additional activities and adjusted the itinerary to make the most of the weather and conditions.
Advice for Potential Travellers
The description of the trip as 'moderate' is fair as the walks were not particularly challenging. However, some of the ascents and descents are quite steep, so take walking poles to provide support on these sections.

Advice for Potential Travellers
If travelling via Vienna with Austrian Airlines be prepared for rush between terminals. As travelling at weekend if bag in cargo hold misses flight you are not likely to get it back until Monday at earliest, so have walking gear and essentials with you in cabin.
