Great location, disappointing hotels and more local insights needed!

This is an amazing bit of Italy but this tour is a bit disappointing. The hotels are generally dated and inexpensive ( c £100 per room per night if booked direct). The hotel is Lecce is the hotel Eos and is about Trave lodge standard on a main road in the new town . So many great places and exodus chose this one? Arborebello feels like a mini film set and is full on touristy although good to be there early and late. Our trulli house was cute although a bit dated ( c1975). The breakfasts here are served in a wine cellar down some very steep stairs. It would have been lovely to have eaten outside or looked at the view.
The rooms/ caves at the hotel Sassi in matera was very varied and 6 of our group of 16 complained snd moved rooms after one night. Our cave was damp and not very clean – the damp smell and atmosphere over whelming . The terrace and view was stunning though.
The guided tours in both places were dull , functional and uninspiring. The cookery class was a 10 minute demo on how to make Orchietta pasta ( you could have a go )

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk around the coves in Otranto was lovely - prob best to do early and not at midday as we did but would be good to have more time for this

Thoughts on Group Leader

Fun and a lovely bloke. Bit repetitive on instructions and kept running too much info too far ahead .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Ask for room upgrades in advance. Food at group dinners disappointing except in Arberobello. Take hard cases as dragged around in matera fraying fabric ones

Portuguese Camino cycle

A really excellent and well-run cycle trip from Porto to Santiago de Compostela

Most Inspirational Moment

Quite a thrill to enter the noisy cathedral square at the end of the trip to join all the other travellers in celebrating successful Camino trips.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Our tour leader was first class. He kept us cyclists moving, yet was conscious to warn us of hazards and generally took care of us. He was also good fun to be with.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be patient with the Camino walkers. Also there are a lot of cobbled roads in Portugal, so have good padded shorts and be prepared to stand up a little on the pedals on bumpier sections.

Romania cycling

Great Trip .

Advice for Potential Travellers

Enjoy

A wonderful introduction to Greece

Opportunity to visit three very different islands and experience Greek culture. Well planned and executed itinerary, enjoyable ferry transfers. Good quality hotels for a three star rating. Exceptional guide and varied walks. Plenty of spare time to relax inbetween activities.

Most Inspirational Moment

Walk from Thira to Oai, wonderful views and varied terrain.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Thano was exceptional. His passion and knowledge was evident throughout the whole trip, nothing was too much trouble. Transfers to islands were seamless with ferry and local buses all falling into place. Evident than Thano was working hard on our behalf.

Inspirational tour of history and spellbinding scenery

A wonderful, varied tour of the history and modern culture of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina; two beautiful and fascinating countries. This tour takes in the med, the mountains and vibrant cities. Something for all.

Most Inspirational Moment

I loved Sarajevo, it is a beautiful, vibrant and bustling city. It is hard to believe that three decades ago it was under siege. The siege museum is a must to fully understand what the people of the city endured and how far things have come.

Thoughts on Group Leader

We were truly blessed to have two guides on our tour: our main tour leader Lorenc and a new leader in training Dina. Both were superb, keeping us safe, informed and entertained at all times. They shared much of themselves on this trip, which was a true blessing and aided greatly the understanding of the turbulent past and how things have changed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip does not include much time in Dubrovnik. To round off the trip nicely I would heartily recommend tagging on a couple of extra nights in Dubrovnik to fully experience this spellbinding and thoroughly accessible city.

What a variety of walks!

I was expecting this trip to be full of activity and it did not disappoint. The five days which were dedicated to walking around the different areas of the island all had something unique to offer, from the barren coastline in the east to the misty and mystical forests in the north. The climax of the trip was the final day achieving the summit of Pico Ruivo, from where all the previous walks could be seen after the sunrise.

Most Inspirational Moment

Watching the sunrise from Pico do Arieiro

Thoughts on Group Leader

Nello was cheerful and entertaining. His English was at times slightly faltering, but on the whole he cared for us on the walks, was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna, and cheered us with his wit and jokes along the way. I thought it was a shame he was not with us at the end of the trip.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for the weather not to be always how you want or expect it.

A week in Andalucia

Fantastic trip, a very small group of 7
Being small everyone had the opportunity to walk and talk and to get to know one another

The villa had a lovely feel to it, Phillipe and his wife made you feel at home, with delicious home cooked food every evening.

Most Inspirational Moment

I enjoyed it all, took the optional trip to Ronda, which I was inspired by beautiful Spanish town with Roman ruins, piazza to sit in, watch the horse draw carriages, old men playing bowls and sip on you Cava.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Michael was a great source of information and lead the walks with plenty of stops for water and a breather!! Delt with some stressful situations and gave up his day off to do so.

Advice for Potential Travellers

Embrace everything would highly recommend this holiday.

Almost as good as it gets!

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip and Exodus were helpful and responsive whenever required

Most Inspirational Moment

The walk round Rome, the guide Fredericka was totally inspirational as well as bing friendly, knowledgeable and amusing.

Thoughts on Group Leader

Veriano our team leader certainly gets five out of five. He had a good understanding of the capabilities of each member of our group and he responded accordingly.

Advice for Potential Travellers

A 'moderate' hike can involve a number of low level climbs which cumulatively can be tiring in the heat of the day.

Walking in Northern Cyprus

Whilst the hotel was good quality with a pool the hotel experience was spoiled by an in-house disco on both Wednesday and Saturdays. The noise made it impossible to sleep or even eat TV until after 11.30 p.m.. The Castles were interesting and whilst walking enjoyable the combination of heat and rough tracks made it feel more difficult than the advertised grade

Most Inspirational Moment

Views from the mountaintop castles

Thoughts on Group Leader

Very thorough in his preparation and control of the group

Advice for Potential Travellers

Be prepared for heat and rough tracks with some steep hills. Climbing the steps to the top of the castles is worth it for the views.

Bill and Elaine Mousley

This was an excellent trip. Although the focus was the Inca Trail and Macchu Picchu, the other parts were also memorable. Everything was very well-organised by our Tour Leader, Edwind. All the accommodation was of a good standard and the travel arrangements allowed us to do so much in the time allotted. It was stress-free from start to finish and meant we could enjoy the experience fully.

Most Inspirational Moment

Reaching the Sun Gate at the. end of the trek and looking down on the unique view of Macchu Picchu

Thoughts on Group Leader

Edwin Colque was fantastic. Knowledgeable, caring, attentive with a great sense of humour. Nothing was too much for him. On a few occasions, his passion for the subject-matter perhaps descended into too much detail to be readily absorbed.

Advice for Potential Travellers

This trip is highly-recommended. Take walking poles and be fit enough for a hard walk!
